apparently I got hacked overnight, didn't lose any items, but lost 150k gold or so. I did some googling and looks like tons of people, including those that use authenticators, got hacked yesterday. Gold comes in real easy, but that's pretty annoying!

ah man that sucks... wonder how they got around the authenticator? Seems like WoW accounts that are protected never get hacked, weird that D3 would be any different, since its all battle.net.

Oh I don't have an authenticator, but apparently many people that do are also saying the same thing happened to them. The forums are such a cluterfuck of flamewars that its hard to tell. Maybe some of those people had loosened their security to not require it on every login, etc etc. I just ordered one, why not, $6.50, and with the real money auction house coming around eventually i assume this will remain a pretty heavy target for this sort of thing for a good while.

Now looking to do some evening team-ups or hardcore. I'll probably gradually push through Nightmare, but I also want to take a look at some other builds if people are up for some team play during evening hours.

Waded thru the muck on the D3 forums and it appears the most viable theory is a session duping exploit. This is a pretty decent post on what to do if you suspect you are being hacked...

Diablo 3 exploit allows session hijacking - Forums - Diablo III

Ah, this brings back memories of playing WoW. It also makes me want to kill a female priest and camp the graveyard.

We'll have to group up. Im only a couple chapters deep into Act 1 Hell. Am level 53 though, ill go level an alt until you get closer.

Finished Normal again, this time with my Hunter and my buddy's Barbarian. We absolutely tore through Acts III and IV with nothing even coming close to touching us. I suppose my 700 damage helped.

Yea. I'm really glad I gave in to the hype and popped my Diablo cherry.

Really the only thing I don't like is that my character is 18 hours+ deep into the game and I am just now starting to be challenged. For it being my first time playing I had a blast just clicking shit, but today in class I was thinking about alt characters. I am really unsure how bad I want to play normal again even if it is with a new character. How bad do I really want to spend 15+ hours playing something that gives absolutely no challenge whatsoever. I only came close to dieing once but that was because I was on like hour 10 of Diablo at 2:30 in the am and I think I was seeing double and just staring at one spot on the screen.

The good news is that I'll have my computer back over the weekend and will be joining the D3 crew. Of course, I'll have to reinstall everything, because there'll be everything but a new video card (case, ram, motherboard, cpu, ram, etcetera)

Once my new computer arrives, in a couple of weeks, I am definitely on board, even if I'm not totally moved in. Hopefully about that time people are ready to start on their Level 1 alts to play with us noobs.

I'll have to find a new class to play since I can't do my healadin from D2

dola -

People might want to watch out. I'm done playing for now. Apparently something is up as I am far from the only one. I went through the recovery process and got it back. Thankfully I caught it before going to bed.

EDIT: Maybe I'm overreacting. I dunno. I don't know how they could have gotten my password to reset :|

EDIT2: Reading up on the current hackings, I think I may have just gotten phished (somehow?) or keylogged (hope not). Who knows. Christ. At least I got my account password reset and got my account back. Just want to know how.

EDIT3: From what I understand, people are getting booted midgame to find their last played character naked or logging in and their last played character naked. Mine seems to be the old fashioned method. Either way, time to put the Authenticator on my account and run a virus scan before bed.

Wow an 8 hour downtime for Diablo 3. I was hoping to get some good time into Nightmare since I couldn't sleep. So much for that.

Was it the Wizard's animations causing the lag?

hopefully the 8 hour patch can fix the exploit causing account hacks and to correct thos which have been hacked.

sorry to hear scoobz that you were hacked! that really sux... unfortunately itemwise i got to parts of stuff all, but if there is anything i can help with, let me know!

debate time : should they make an offline mode for all the people complaining they have to be online to play? personally, i am all for the way they have set it up, as hopefully it minimizes the risk of item hacks, map hacks, character hacks, all the things that basically killed off D2 for me back in the day...

i don't have a problem with them eventually introducing an offline mode, just do not allow the online and offline characters to intermingle.. problem solved..

Offline mode with completely separate items/characters/etc from the online mode.

They should have thought of this from the start anyway.

I'd be cool with offline mode if you could at the very least LAN with friends.

I've read a lot about Barbarians and Monks having a lot of trouble with Inferno difficulty and that the game caters more toward the ranged classes the harder the game gets.

Hopefully they don't cave too much in that fashion, but at the same time, classes need to be balanced.

agreed Grover.. 1 guy i was grouped with said for Monks to survive Inferno, they have to resort to using a 'glitch'!

barbarians are ok, but are pretty restricted to a sword-shield kind of build, nothing like what they may have played up until that point..

I am playing my 50 demon hunter, and from what i have read, the build i am using now is perfect till lvl 60, and suits Hell/Inferno, just need some gear to up the DPS some

wizards are fine in inferno, but dont know much about witch doctors.. they seem to be the black sheep of the game at this point...

I put in a request for a refund the same night I purchased it, thankfully Blizzard returned my money no problem. Yay.

I'll have to wait until a bit into the future when I get a new laptop to buy and play it.

Join in playing Diablo 2! It'll run on you're little laptop and they still sell copies.

A few random Diablo III bits from me, a week after release:
  • Sorry to hear about the folks that have been hacked. I'm fortunate that I haven't been, and I'm also pretty paranoid about this sort of thing since my LOTRO account was hacked last year. I've added the mobile authenticator and I suggest anyone else with a smart phone do the same. It's free.
  • I've been keeping all of the rares I've come across so far, and last night I started my first two mules (Barbarians named Eyor and Porkchop). I've purchased all upgrades for the first stash tab, but 100k for a second tab is a bit out of my price range right now. I also noticed last night that the character selection screen says there is a 10 character limit. I sincerely hope this limit is removed.
  • Received my first Legendary over the weekend (off some random elite in Act II, no less). Not exactly stellar stats, but a Legendary is a Legendary, and it makes me want to go back to my level 6 Monk:
    • Rabid Strike (Legendary Fist Weapon)
    • 25.5 DPS
    • +1-3 Poison Damage
    • +12% Damage
    • +1.28 Spirit Regeneration per second
    • +5 XP per Kill
    • +1.1% Chance to Slow per hit
    • Empty Socket
  • If you want a challenge, fight the Butcher as part of a two-man team and have your teammate die 15 seconds into the fight. That's what happened to me, and it was definitely the most challenging fight I've encountered thus far. Thank goodness the health pools in that arena regenerate, or I'd have been one dead Barbarian.

I'm sitting on a bunch of low-level rares at the moment. Not sure how much help they'd be, but if you need a hand gearing up again let me know.

I got all my shit. I got hacked the old fashioned way. Somehow, somewhere, somebody was able to get my password. Had I not noticed right away I could have been missing some stuff, but thankfully I caught it within an hour.

It's a coincidence, I think, that this happened to me as a hacking exploit is being used. From what I gather with this is that people are able to hack your session. They are able to somehow hack your battletag or something. Not sure on that last sentence if that is how, but I think I read that. Either way, they are able to hijack your game and kick you out. Then when you log back in they've already stolen all your shit. I've read warning of people to steer clear of public games because that is how it has been happening. I don't think an authenticator works for this, as it happens once your playing and from in-game. EDIT: But then again, nobody has a real clue what is happening so it could easily just be people without authenticators being hacked and getting kicked.

Also, I've read hints that people have already started duplicating items out of thin air.

EDIT: I did read that Blizzard's official statement is that it's the old fashioned method. People without authenticators being hacked.

Thankfully, I didn't get the session hack. That would have sucked. Thanks for the offer, though.

I like that Blizzard wants to scare people into spending an extra $6 for an authenticator.

It's a free download for your phone, I believe. $6 physical FOB is an option.
