Cotchery would probably have been mine at 10.7, good pick.

Remember, we're on weekend hours now. So, rather than the usual 9/10am in the morning, you get a full six hours. Since Masked picked last at 8:20pm- that would give rafini until 12:20 tomorrow afternoon to pick (6 full hours of "on clock" time). Remember to pass along lists if need be. I'll be in and out the next couple of days but I'll try to keep things as updated as possible.

EDIT: rafini picked at 9:22 (and I hadn't flipped the page so I didn't notice this) so the next pick is due at 1:22pm tomorrow. And if molson picks sometime overnight or tomorrow morning before 8, for instance, then the clock won't start for the next person until 2pm.

10.6 QB Joe Flacco, BAL

I'm the last team to take the QB, the list I made in round 6 was almost empty, so needed to grab Flacco now from the "lower tier" list. Flacco wasn't at the top of that list (T. Edwards was), but he was above a couple others who were taken.

He was easily one of the guys on my short list last time around, but his grasp on the job is tenuous and he does seem to always get hurt. Still, it's not like there are better options on the board at the moment.

Would anyone be horribly opposed to turning the clock off over the weekend? So far, we have had only 1 missed pick the entire draft and I'd kindof like to keep it that way, if we can. At the rate we are going, we should easily be done by the end of next week.

He (Shian-- whatever, him) and Parker and one as of yet unpicked WR were the three on my list I didn't go with at the last turn. That said, I'm not quite sold on him, but I guess what do you want from the, what, 15th TE off the board?

I really almost bit on him because everywhere you go, you see every expert loves him as a sleeper because Brett Favre "loves TEs". But I started looking through pro football reference yesterday and he had a lot of years with 300-500yd + 5 or less TD TEs so I went with a pair of WRs that I thought could get 1000 yds instead

Yeah, I figured since I already had Gonzalez hopefully I can live with some swings from my #2 TE, but hope for the best predictions on his upside to come true. We'll see, I guess.

Needed depth at receiver...our bench spots are sparse and I feel I've drafted too many runningbacks.

And there goes the other WR I was thinking about last round. I was secretly hoping he'd make it back down to me

To me, it was another one of those coin flips between him and Kevin Walter.

Now I know at the end of the year, these "coin flips" won't look like it but to me, they look similar in a risk * reward formula. For instance, Lance Moore could stay injured all year and only put up 500 yards and 3 TDs while defenses blanket Johnson so Walter gets 1200 yards and 10 TDs. Or Moore could come back healthy, Colston go down week 2, and he goes for that 1200/10 while Matt Schaub gets hurt in Houston and Walter gets 500/3.

I found out a couple of years ago that I like to go with a shorter bench both in this and baseball leagues. In football, it's kindof frustrating- I wish you could have a bench spot just designated as "bye week bencher", for instance, that can only be used for players on their bye week (and it disappears in the second half). That way, you aren't penalized for the silly bye system but it doesn't really drain the pool that much more. Plus, you only would have one so you still have to pay attention to bye weeks a little while drafting.

But I like the pool to be just deep enough that there are "bye week replacement" level players in it as well as others you can take a chance on. If you think you're really solid at other positions, you can sit on a chance RB or two. For instance, this year I think my WR corps are pretty solid so I think I'll lean towards having an extra RB. Other years, it's the opposite for my team.

However, it keeps people from loading up their benches with players just to keep other teams from having them. Yes, there should be some roster strategy in play but there just shouldn't be this great hoarding of players who never play just to keep them from other teams. Where's the fun in that?

Well, as stated above- the clock's off. Take some time and recover. If you get a chance, make a pick. Heck, it may not even get to your turn.

I have a list from flere, but, again, I'm going to be in and out most of the day. So, if Masked gets a chance to pick, I can make the next 4 picks. However, I'm not sure when that will be. Plus, I still don't know who my two picks are going to be- particularly since flere's top pick was also the only guy I was certain about on my list and he'll go to him at 11.9 if Masked doesn't pick him.

Well, never mind then- I haven't gotten out the door yet, so here are the next 4 picks.

11.09 RB Cedric Benson, CIN
11.10 RB Beanie Wells, ARI
12.01 RB Felix Jones, DAL
12.02 TE Brent Celek, PHI

I wanted the "steady" Benson for a backup RB. Yeah, he sucks but he's pretty much guaranteed a starting job for now. Instead, I went with two of about 10 guys with a lot of upside.

This is what really frustrates me with the usual fantasy drafts and why this league exists- these guys (Wells, Jones, etc) are usually 4th-6th round guys in a standard league. You don't see all of the utility infielders getting drafted in fantasy baseball before #2 SPs. You don't see backup GKs picked in hockey before 2nd line guys. So why in the world is it ok for the most popular system (football) to have backup RBs getting drafted before everyone has starting QBs and maybe 10-15 WRs are off the board. Instead, most teams now have their starters locked up and can take some chances- weighing potential vs known production/risk of dropoff (an aging Driver, known mediocrity like Deion Branch, mostly dregs at TE, the best Ks and DEFs- tho worth less points, and a lot of QB question marks).
/end rant

Anyways, Yahoo and thread updated thru 12.02
