2014 Ellington averaged 3.3ypc. He seems more like a good tandem back.

I think we're way too far on the "RB's are largely interchangeable" axis. Maybe the middle 80% are, but the top 10% are great.

Bucs hire Falcons outgoing OC Koetter as their OC. Many people on the Bucs board are sure this means the Jameis Winston era is about to begin. I am no expert on these two...so I guess there is a lot of "Wait and see" from my point of view. Hope it ends well though.

Thinking about the QB's available in the draft and that Chip Kelly would probably love to plug Mariota in his system - if Philly offers you Foles for the first overall pick, do you say yes? Foles and a first?

Foles will have a much better career than Winston or Mariota, so I'm fine with leaving him right where he is.

This is still the same Jameis Winston that threw 18 picks, right? And taking out his top game against the Citadel he's even worse. I know we talk about tools and all, but when do actual numbers get bandied about?

I think you are way over-valuing Winston and perhaps Mariota.

Why do so many people think Mariota is not that good? I understand the system he is in.. But he has been head and shoulders better than any of his predecessors at Oregon, especially Dennis Dixon, who was undersized but might have been able to develop into something of a decent backup given playing time.. Mariota has prototype size and a good arm, a track record of avoiding turnovers like the plague, and enough speed to be incredibly dangerous with his feet as well. He is coming off a season where he essentially mirrored Russell Wilsons best season in college except with a lot more efficient rushing numbers. He is also remarkably consistent and by all accounts has a good head on his shoulders.

Mariota looks to me like he is essentially somewhere between Wilson and Aaron Rodgers, AKA a QB I would give my arm and leg and probably a nut for.

I see this as another opportunity for NFL teams for show how important off field character is. Given all the rhetoric that I have heard over the last six months or so, Winston will probably be worth a third round gamble.

He plays on the West Coast so no one sees him and just thinks he is a QB from a gimmicky system.

The pace does seem a bit slow when compared to other years. I don't think Quinn or Gase or Del Rio or McDaniels or Hamilton can interview again until their respective teams are eliminated from the playoffs.

I remember a lot of Steelers fans complaining about Bruce Arians being the problem too. Have you guys won a playoff game since chasing him away?

You can't get quality 3/4 personnel anymore. The year Tyson Jackson went 3rd overall as 5 technique should have been a wake-up call to try something else.

I was fine with changing out Arians, the offense has been solid. If anything Arians should have bbeen promoted.

I don't know. With plenty of injuries, they were a middle of the pack defense. Tomlin pushed LeBeau out to try and save his own job.

I think a team hiring Rex without a QB already in place is a huge mistake.

It's like Rex Ryan considers coaching a good QB as against his own personal house rules.

Just doing some digging for another thought ...does anyone else realize that among all players with 100+ carries
Russel Wilson averages 7.4ypc
Next is Colin K at 6.5ypc then you go all the way down to Justin Forcette at 5.4ypc

Thats quite an impressive spread

Not only that, but if he takes on Greg Roman as the OC, say good bye to wins. Really a kind of inexplicable hire IMO.

Maybe they're planning on using Manuel in the read option? Though I think Trestman would be the better option at offensive coordinator.

No doubt the Bills will now trade up to get Winston so Rex has yet another immature not ready for the NFL QB to mess up

I think this was more the new owners wanting a "big name" more than a perfect fit with someone like Frank Reich. And I would have thought Rex would want nothing more to do with the AFC East after the last couple of years in NY. ATL would have been the ideal spot for him I think.

Man the Buffalo/Jets games will just be crazy if the Jets hire Marrone now.

Yep - was going to say, the sons' flaw is the same as the father's. Buddy didn't give a rat's ass about the offense while he was in Philly, and by many accounts fostered an environment that pitted the offense and defense against each other. He had Randall, but never supported him with an offensive line and never had a back that could do much of anything (though without an O-line...but still: Michael Haddix. Anthony Toney. Keith Byars.)

Agree 100%...I was angling at the idea that RC was successful in spite of a Ryan. With the salary cap...anything is possible!!!
