That's how they got the lead. 17 points on 3 Denver turnovers, a fumbled kick off return, a fumbled punt return and a pick 6. SD isn't even in the game if Denver doesn't have a shitty 1st Qtr.

Nice job forcing the fumble while being mugged. Count the penalties he fought through. Holding, hands the face/facemask...

don't know what one has to do with the other. Once they have that lead the players need to keep focused and not make mistakes, seems like they didn't do that.

Replace Alex Smith with Peyton Manning and the 49ers would be frightening.

What an absolute egg laid by the Niners on Sunday. The coaches, defense, special teams, and offense all looked embarrassingly shitty. Smith looked off all game, though running for your life 3 out of every 4 dropbacks will do that. Kaep looked like a 21 year old rookie (who will unfortunately be 25 in two weeks). The kickoff coverage team looks certifiably broken. The DB's played off all game, and everybody and their brother knows you have to play bump against the Giants. Just an odd game from start to finish.

Re: The QB's...I like Smith for what this offense is built to do. Kaep is fast, and he has a strong arm, but you can say that about 10 QB's every year coming out of college. You should never mistake athleticism for talent...just ask the Raiders. He has yet to show he can stand in the pocket and progress through his reads, and his performance in "normal" plays yesterday showed he isn't picking up on the playbook nearly as well as Smith is. Both QB's have been in this system for an equal amount of time, and I can see now why Harbaugh said he was disappointed in how slowly Kaep's understanding of the offense is coming along.

Smith is 28...Kaep will be 25 in two weeks. Kaep's window to "get there" is closing quickly. He needs to step it up, or he's going to be an even quicker flash in the pan than Kordell Stewart.

Look, head coaches and QB's take the credit when things go good and the blame when it goes bad.

Rivers is proving himself to be one of the most anti clutch QB's in the game. I don't think he's had a comeback win in the Obama administration. He used to piss me off, but I had to begrudgingly admit he was a terrific QB. Now? He's horrible when it count. He has nothing. It's amazing to watch.

As for Norv, if you have a 24-0 lead on a division rival on your home field and lose the game by laying an egg in the second half, you get the blame. Don't want the blame? don't be an NFL head coach.

well, you lost two fumbles and threw four INT's. I'd hate to see what would have happened had you been fooled once or twice.

I'm frankly stunned Harbaugh expected Kaep to pick up the offense. Kaep went to Reno, after all.

Ummm, you might want to quote the part where I said it was all Norvs fault. I actually did not even mention it until my last post. Even in that post, I put the blame on Rivers first and then simply mentioned he gets the blame. . .because he is an nfl coach. I thought it was pretty clear I was stating coaches got more credit than they deserve and more blame than they deserve.

Guess I was not clear enough.

Especially considering the fact people were fitting Cam Newton for his Hall of Fame jacket this time last year.

Interesting that the trade deadline is now after week 8.

Of which, outside of a few people who are fans of the team, what amount of money would you feel comfortable wagering on who Jason Campbell is currently playing for?

I had no idea what the correct answer was.

Yeah, as one of those who hated the pick, then ate my hat by the end of the year, I'm hoping this is just a sophomore slump, because right now all the things that we we worried about with the pick but didn't see last year are coming to fruition.

One interesting point has been made locally - last year they didn't have a training camp, so they ran an offense based around what Cam already knew. This year they are trying to make him do new things to suit what they want to run, and it's really not working and he's not picking it up.

Brilliant mastery by Norv Turner last night. Go into half time, up 24 - 0. What was the half time speech? "We got 'em right where we want them! Royal, you just run whatever pattern you feel like running. Rivers, just freestyle it out there in the second half. No worries, that geriatric Denver defense can't do anything we haven't seen before. Now go out there and show the nation that we don't need to prepare for 4 quarters, let alone 3 quarters of professional football!! ARRRGGHGHGGHEHAHEHEHAA!!!!"

Thought so too but saw a stat that they've blown seven 4th quarter leads going back to last year. I'm sure the turnovers by Vick haven't helped but paired with the original problem (OL coach turned to DC) I'm sure it was necessary on some level.

But this year, they're 13th in points allowed versus 31st in points scored. I pulled those numbers from an article on Pro Football Talk, if accurate, it points to which side of the ball the problems lay.

Isn't this the same trap Holmgren fell into by keeping Mangini around an extra year because he showed "progress". I think they are going to replace Shurmer short of making the playoffs and that the decision has already been made.

The Beyonce news is at least the tiniest bit interesting since it will put to rest the occasional rumors about the current Van Halen lineup playing the SB halftime show.

I don't get the hate for Beyonce. She's got a good voice, is totally hot, and seems kind of nice in the brief clips I've seen of her not singing.

That's it. And if Green Bay can score 42 on Texas, certainly the Pats offense can if they're on.

I don't think anyone is giving up at this point. You could argue they've been incredibly unlucky to lose 3 games by a total of 4 points or whatever. I'd imagine their win expectation is probably more like 5, 4 at least based on score differential. Then we'd talking about how opportunistic their defense is.

However, it's also equally clear that Bill spends $ like 60/40 on offense/defense which results in the same theme playing out year after year, regardless of what specific step in the season.

On side note, Russell Wilson's most recent line now that his non-Patriots supported performance has returned.

C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT SACKS QBR RTG
R. Wilson 9/23 122 5.3 0 1 2-7 26.0 38.7
