Update 23 Hole 18 Doyle (-7) solid par Shaplowsky (-6) - solid par Doyle had a quite back half coming home in even par 36, but he did manage to go 2 under for the day and finish tied at -7, just need to wait and see where that -7 ends up. Schaplowsky was 1 under for the day and 6 under for the tournament. Hole 17 Art Mullen (-5) reaches green in two, but actually has to scramble a bit to get the birdie after the first putt was too aggressive and went 6 feet by the hole. (-6) Saku Koekela (-5) Also reached the green in two, and the birdie is basically a gimme from about 2 feet. (-6) Hole 16 Jesse Porter (-7) - solid par Harold Finch (-8) solid par Hole 15 Archie Goodwin (-8) solid par Joe Smith (-9) solid par |

Beachfront Pro-Am - Final Round
Update 25 Hole 18 Goodwin has honors so he steps up and rips a drive right down the middle. Smith steps up and he blocks his drive well right into the trees... Smith's ball is in jail and he attempts a low hook to get the ball out and he clips a tree in the process, the ball is knocked straight down in the thick rough. He hasn't lost his turn yet and his third shot fails to reach the green and worse it's in deep grass on a severe downhill/sidehill lie Goodwin knocks his second shot to the center of the green and he has a 22 foot putt for birdie. Smith's 4th shot can't get enough spin on it and it trickles to the back edge of the green. The aggressive putt from the fringe for bogey is too firm and rolls 4 feet past. Smith make the come-backer but he's straddled with a double bogey finish... Goodwin lines up his putt. If he makes he wins, if he misses we will have a playoff between Goodwin and Babson... Archie confidently strokes his putt and it goes dead in the heart for a birdie and the WIN!!! Goodwin finishes the round 1 under and the tournament -9. Smith who led the whole round and has to deal with that heartbreaking finish ends up in the 6 way tie for 3rd at 7 under par. |

Arizona Open - Course Overview
1. Par 4 : 468 Yards - Normal The first hole requires a nice mix of skill and intangibles…The hole straight and uphill, with a huge bunker which can come into play if players try to get too greedy off the tee. The green is elevated with runoffs on the right which can stress a players short game, and the huge bunkers left and long that will require high sand skill to save par. On this hole players need the skills to hit the shots but also the confidence in what you are doing and the focus to pull it off is important. 2. Par 4 : 412 Yards – Hard Getting birdie here puts a player ahead of the game, in fact this hole is more about avoiding dropping a shot. The short par 4 has a tight fairway and a small green surrounded by bunkers. Get overly aggressive and you could find yourself in a dense grouping of trees. Miss the green and your sand play better be up to snuff. 3. Par 3 : 199 Yard – Normal This green is huge and multi-tiered. Being on the green here isn’t enough to insure par, you need to be on the right level of the green. The tee shot is extremely important if you want to walk away with a birdie. 4. Par 5 : 540 Yards – Easy This hole provides players with numerous options on how to attack. Players can reach it in two, but a big and very deep bunker that takes up about 2/3rds of the front of the green can cause problems for players that come up short. But with so many options smart decisions and well executed shots are all that is needed. 5. Par 4 : 488 Yards – Hard This hole is difficult to birdie, but a long straight drive or an extremely well executed long iron approach can get it done. But be careful a drive in the rough can quickly force a player to scramble to save par. 6. Par 5: 555 Yards – Normal This sharp dogleg hole is very difficult to reach it two because there is no good angle of attack, which makes this an interesting hole. In net effect this is a par 5 but birdies typically come down to the putter. The severe undulating green make it difficult to sink medium length putts – much less long ones. 7. Par 3: 150 Yards – Normal Small green with deep and thick grass bunkers that can create some awkward lies if the green is missed. This hole requires precision with the short iron approach to allow the player a chance to run a putt at the hole for birdie. 8. Par 4 : 440 Yards – Hard A long drive can put you in a position to birdie this hole, but miss the fairway and a bogey quickly comes into play. The green here slopes front to back so approach shots must be hit with a lot of spin to hold the green and shots from the rough will almost all run to the back edge if not over the green and into the thick grass bunker behind. 9. Par 4 : 466 Yards – Normal This picturesque hole shows the elevated green framed by trees to the left and surrounded by tiers of bunkers and run off areas. To avoid bogey players need to hit the green with the approach. If the ball is on the green in regulation players will have a shot at birdie because the green is pretty easy to putt. However, if you miss the green the short game will have to scramble to save par. 10. Par 4 : 478 Yards – Hard Extremely uphill hole that can take the juice out of a players legs if they aren’t careful. Players choosing to be aggressive here need to make sure they are straight off the tee or they could regret that decision. Mounds along both sides of the fairway ensure a bad lie if the fairway is missed 11. Par 5 : 539 Yards – Easy The longest hitters can clear two big bunkers on either side of the fairway which makes this hole much shorter. Most players will be forced to lay up short of the bunkers which eliminates any shot at reaching the green in two. 12. Par 3 : 209 Yards – Easy An isolated green with very little around it allow players to attack the pin. This creates its own type of pressure and players tend to feel that walking off with par is similar to walking away with bogey on other holes. The biggest obstacles here tend to be a loss of focus or trying to do too much rather than taking the consistent approach and swing. 13. Par 5 : 569 Yards – Normal The sharp dog leg right requires a well struck drive to get to the corner or the player will face a difficult second shot round trees to a small landing area. If the corner is reached off the tee the player will have several options on how to proceed and birdie is a definite possibility. 14. Par 4 : 416 Yards – Normal Typically there are two schools of thought about this short par 4 over water. Aggressively attack the hole and try to take advantage of the short yardage and get birdie or play conservatively and avoid dropping a stroke. The difference in approach is due to the very small landing area off the tee. A long drive does leave a player with basically a wedge in, but a missed fairway and wedge or not the ball likely won’t hold the approach shot. 15. Par 3: 181 Yards – Normal This green is the first one where water will really come into play. The water runs all along the front and left of the green…when the pin placement is front players will have to be careful to carry the ball far enough that shots don’t spin back into the water. 16. Par 4 : 482 Yards – Normal A long par 4 with a very oddly shaped green that can cause problems for players. The green is almost triangular in shape and when the pin is back at the tip of the triangle birdie opportunities typically disappear, and trying to birdie will more often than not lead to bogey. When the pin isn’t back, this hole can and often is birdied. 17. Par 4 : 449 Yards – Normal Pretty straight forward hole. Long drives set up easier approach shots, but consistent play is important to convert the birdies. The only real trouble here is a few small clusters of trees on either side of the fairway. 18. Par 4 : 474 Yards – Normal Fitness can be a problem by the time players get to 18…the long walk and heat can really take its toll. So much so players will have to work hard mentally to repeat their swing consistently and execute their shots. Sand and Grass bunkers await players that aren’t crisp with their approach shots and a severely sloping green can make it difficult to chip it close to the pin.
