The video quality isn't too good through the SopCast feed I'm looking at, but I think Calvin Johnson just scored his first NFL touchdown.

Edit: Yes, he did. Also, for anyone wondering why I'm watching the Lions and Raiders, it's funnier than any new sitcom that's going to air this TV season.

17-0, Lions over Raiders....anyone who has the Raiders D on their fantasy team now has absolutely no reason to like the Raiders.

Rivers is doing something that is basically giving away the snap count to the Bears defense. It looked like the Bears were offsides on that, but the Bears defense is reacting to Rivers' hike call at the same time the Chargers' Offensive Line is.

I'm really, really happy to see Calvin Johnson score a TD and get a few good catches today, Detroit was my 2nd favorite team from the day they drafted him.

Even if that offsides was reviewable, I think they'd pull the death blow "insufficient evidence" rule on that one. Think we caught a big break regardless.

edit: Nevermind, after the last replay.

Agreed. It was CLEARLY offisde and the refs CLEARLY blew that call. But it's just as clear the Bears have the Rivers snap count down cold. He should have had that figured out on the first Harris play. Instead he didn't change it up and ended up having another close call.

SD will get an apology letter from the NFL on Tuesday. It aint getting their points back though.

Yeah, he was clearly in the nuetral zone, but not by much. Rivers needs to give a hard count here and there to stop that from happening.

KArma helps SD, they get a goofy turnover and score a TD on a trick play. Raiders scored a TD as well. 17-7 Lions.

Raiders get a Kitna INT and take advantage of it with a TD. Raiders down 3. Could they get to 1-0? Could it really happen?

Norv does a nice job with offenses, but he has been a disaster as a head coach. If San Diego goes deeper in the playoffs it will be despite him, moreso in my opinion than it would have been despite Schottenheimer.

I think people could understand getting rid of Marty.

What was moronic was when they did it. I'll let Bill Simmons explain.

Quote:
If they hired Norv Turner right after the AFC Playoffs and we knew they were sold on him, it would be one thing. Instead, they choked away the Pats game, dragged their feet on firing Marty Schottenheimer when it was the only move, then lost his potential replacement (Cam Cameron) to Miami -- as well as every other potential replacement, by the way -- before canning Marty, settling on Turner at the eleventh hour and giving him a makeshift staff of retread assistants. I'm supposed to pick this team to win the Super Bowl? Yeah, they're gonna score a ton of points with Norv Turner. That's what he does. He shows up, your offense gets better. But he's had THREE chances to be a head coach and failed every time. Why would this time work?

Really big article in the Pro Football Prospectus talking about how horrible of a coach Turner is with actual data. As if we need any beyond "every team he's coached has gotten worse"

Bears don't get a stop here, it's game over. Neal got away with a clear hold on the last play. I'm not sure how a ref can miss that one. It's right where the carrier is going and there weren't bodies blocking the view. Taht's just poor officiating.

LT scores, Bears are in big, big trouble now.

Agreed on the poor officiating, but if both obvious missed calls are called correctly odds are the Chargers have as much if not more points than what they have now.

Beyond great blocking. That was just terrible for the Raiders there. He could have ate a couple of sandwiches back there. Is it hot there? Both defenses look gassed.

Lions miss the two point conversion, Raiders will have a chance.

Kitna could've sat down, ordered a pizza, waited for the delivery, accidentally undertipped the driver, noticed his mistake, called for the driver to come back, corrected the tip amount, eaten half his pizza, digested it, eaten the other half, and STILL had time to throw that touchdown pass.

Oh I don't know, Troy. Norv Turner just beat the defending NFC champion with defense. Did they plug that into the actual data?

LOL Pumpy. That's not far off. As an aside, I HATE the three man rush, especially against teams with a lot of talented WR. I don't care how many DB's you have in the secondary, if you can't pressure the QB, you are going to get eaten alive.
