Nothing personal but, uh, keep that shit down thataway. The wind I'm listening to outside is already uncomfortable enough in the dark.

For those who ain't up on their Georgia geography, GDawg is about 45-60 minutes south of me.

That tornado warning he went through next headed for Monticello, where we lived before moving to Athens.

Hence "down thataway"

It was pretty crazy straight line wind. Sounds like there is a tree down on a house with an entrapment just south of us. They had two well-defined debris balls just south of us. Looks like one was right where a tornado did so much damage this time last year (right around Turtle Cove where you might be familar).

They just said the fire department is calling for "big equipment" to clear off a road up near you, Jon (Jackson County).

I'm not surprised. Weather alerts said 60 mph gusts and from the sound outside I damned sure believe it.

Ah yes, the party central for Newton and Jasper Counties

I've occasionally wonder if it still warrants the, ahem, reputation it used to have for being the epicenter of ... how shall I put this? "couples-oriented alternative lifestyles/activities"

Back in our Monticello days, there were some pretty wild stories that made the rounds.

We had a strong storm for a little while but no big deal here north of Atlanta.

But don't keep me in suspense, how do I get in on the alternative lifestyles?

If it's like it was 20 years ago, a good starting point would be "have little to no standards". Most of the rumored participants were, umm ... not the sort that would even catch your eye on a Walmart run.

Yeah, that area at the time was basically an upscale trailer park on a lake. It is much nicer now, but some of the lower end lots still remain. It still wouldn't surprise me if there is a little swinging action happening there. I service some houses in there, and the couples fit the profile (moderately put together, all have hot tubs, etc.). I really don't know how someone gets into the "lifestyle," but I know several of my customers are active in that community. A couple i know because my boss was invited to join them (he declined). A couple of others don't really hide it. Suggestive photos of themselves in their playroom along with fun accessories. Sex swings are way more prominent than I ever imagined.

I knew a guy that did service calls for BellSouth stuff. He told me there were several situations where women would invite him for more.

That long red line on the radar is moving through here right now, though I assume the storms are a bit less intense up this way. Strongest gusts in the last few minutes are looking like around 40mph. Next, all eyes turn to Wednesday, when it's looking like much of the northern half of NC (which definitely includes our location) is going to get hammered with a winter storm. The snow/sleet/freezing rain/rain lines are expected to be quite close together, with maybe as little as 75 miles between all rain and possible double-digit snowfall, and then a couple of brutally cold nights Wednesday and Thursday. We're in the "likely to get all snow or just snow and sleet" area right now, though that could change. Once it stops raining today I'm filling all the gas cans and firing up the generator for a test just in case that line moves a bit northward.

Kentucky got like 4-6 inches of rain just yesterday, following a week of snow and rain. It's now turning to heavy snow.

Fortunately, we're just off Cuba headed to Aruba but we're having neighbors check to make sure nothing is leaking. And the girls are not enjoying it as it's causing all sorts of issues on the roads.

yeah, up here an hour outside of Boston, it's just the worst. Not total snowfall wise, but enough to be trouble, especially when it turned to freezing rain/sleet/ice and everything that was plowed turns into a skating rink, while the snow turns into an icepack that will jam up any snowblower made.

I can handle snow. I can even handle ice.

Snow entombed in ice, though, that sucks.

We've basically been locked in the house since the end of November because if there's not snow on the ground, it's raining, and if it's not raining is cloudy and freezing. Then top it off with the thunderstorms last night. Another week of freezing temps ahead for us this week.

My FB feed today included a post (by a longtime resident of that area) that noted the tornado touched down " ... in Alcovy Shores. It did $10,000 worth of improvements"

we had a PANIC moment here (I originally described it as a "OH FUCK.. don'tlaughdon'tlaughdon'tlaugh" moment).

The icepacked snow on the deck was solid enough for him to stand on, and he tried to go down into the yard to do his business, and four steps down, slipped, and basically slid down on his butt (hitting several stairs on the way down.

Thankfully, he's ok.. he spent the next 35 minutes barking and whining trying to figure a way back up, but needless to say, with everything so icy, it wasn't easy.

Just in case anyone is thinking that Myrtle Beach is on fire-there are currently no evacuations and the fire is about 30% contained. We live about 20 minutes by car south of the area that was evacuated-Carolina Forest, and this morning due to a marine layer the smoke was held over us so we did have smoke and an fire/smoke smell but that has mostly gone away.

And using video and pictures from the California fires I guess.

It could get more serious on Wed if not contained, supposed to get a lot of wind/storms then,

Yikes, didn't realize this storm was that bad ... and it's headed towards Atlanta. From the maps, pretty soon.

Quote:
The death toll from the sweeping storm system climbed to at least 33 across six states Saturday night as more fatalities were reported in Mississippi.

Evidently there's out of control wildfires in my general area. I can see smoke clouds from my house but it would have to burn through multiple cities to get to me. It's a good ways away from really touching any population centers, but it is burning some mountain homes and some beautiful parks. It should stay contained enough for the rain to get here Sunday and Monday.

Stay safe man. Thankfully the wildfire in Myrtle Beach is about 80% contained and not threatening anybody

Not overly concerned and though the air quality is terrible, it does make everything smell like BBQ. It is freaking out my daughter. Every weather anomaly gets to her since the hurricane.

In the past 6 months we've had had a hurricane that knocked down trees and killed our power for 2 weeks, a snowstorm, constant 20-30 mile per hour winds, and now wildfires.

If I actually believed, I would tell the people of this red state area that maybe God was trying to give them a sign.

We get in state tuition in North Carolina :-)

(Though Mrs. A's family is from Charleston, so College of Charleston might get a look-see as an out-of-state option)

On the heels of the worst winter I've seen here in 20+ years we're supposed to get up to 10 inches of rain over the next 4 days. That's basically 3-4 months worth of rain here. No idea where that will go. We've had so much this year already. First things first, we have to deal with a squall line with tornadoes, hail and 70mph winds.

Yeah, fun times. We spent 1:30-3am in our basement storage room under the garage due to 2 separate tornado warnings. Doesn't appear to have been any actual tornadoes here, as of initial reporting this morning, but it sucked. We did learn that we have yet another leak in our storage room though, so it wasn't all a waste!

My FIL is up on a hill so he'll be fine, but looks like Eastern KY is going to get hammered with flooding yet again. Lots of water in areas bound by granite is not a good combo.

The target area has moved east a bit, but as of last night, far eastern/southeastern KY were not even in flood watches. It was mainly western/central and SW KY.

The problem is we're looking at 4 days of waves of heavy rain, each capable of putting down up to 4 inches at a time.

Looking at all the flood warnings that stretch from Ohio all the way to Arkansas. We've had a few windows without rain, and we've seen lines go north and south. We've still had over 5 inches since Wednesday night. I think we've been lucky. The Ohio is going above flood stage, but other than endless mud, darkness, and an approaching return to freezing temps we're hanging in there. Two more days of rain to go.

I went out and ran yesterday afternoon during a few hour break. We're headed to Cincy tonight for a concert when it's supposed to get bad again. Can't wait to drive back home at midnight in a storm!

It's been a non-stop shower today. Not sure on the totals, but it's something like 5 weeks worth of rain in 4 days. One more day to go. Feels like it'll never dry out. Better than those poor souls in Arkansas.

We've gotten 2/3 of the average total rainfall for the entire spring in 4 days.

We've got a leak in our roof above our bedroom. Water was streaming in through a light fixture last night - while we were in Cincy at a concert. Several spots on the ceiling. 20 year old roof with no damage we can see, so I'm a little concerned (OK, freaked out) that this may be a roof replacement on our dime.
