Jeez, this is beyond embarrassing. At this point, you just have to hope that Rio doesn't go up in flames.

Will they go for 10?

The previous highest score in a semi final was 6-1:
1930 Argentina 6-1 USA
1930 Uruguay 6-1 Yugoslavia
1954 West Germany 6-1 Austria

Went to wikipedia to look up worst defeats in World Cup history. Someone has already edited the page to put Germany in there (although it's not listed right and will get deleted).

I feel like Brazil would have been better off with this guy as the captain:

If this 7-0 score stands, this game joins the top10 biggest wins in World Cup history:
1982 Hungary 10-1 El Salvador
1954 Hungary 9-0 South Korea
1974 Yugoslavia 9-0 Zaire
1938 Sweden 8-0 Cuba
1950 Uruguay 8-0 Bolivia
2002 Germany 8-0 Saudi Arabia
1954 Turkey 7-0 South Korea
1954 Uruguay 7-0 Scotland
1974 Poland 7-0 Haiti
2010 Portugal 7-0 North Korea

All but one of these games were group stage games. Sweden-Cuba was a quarter-final.

Definitely. Nearly everywhere else in the world, a lot of fans would have left the stadium at the 80th minute.

Yeah, nothing even remotely like this has happened so late in the World Cup. Guessing Oscar becomes a symbol for national pride with his goal to give the Brazilians something…anything.

Not to say they're not playing great offensively, but I mean...it looks like Brazil's not even on the pitch.

Germany has improved dramatically since Lahm moved back to his natural wingback position. You can check my posts in this thread and you will notice me saying that when Lahm had to move to wingback in the Algeria-Germany game.

They ARE impressive. Against France, I never ever thought that we (France could win).

Brazil simply cracked under the pressure and i am not sure you can blame them. I don´t think there ever has been such an impossible mix of soccer-related and socially-related pressure on a host team. And Silva and Neymar took on the brunt of this pressure and deflected it off the team in different ways. One as the teams captain, the other as the Golden Boy.

On the other hand, the german team took those struggles and punished the brazilian team for their weakness. They were decisive in their attacking from the first minute, they looked for cracks in the defense and attacked those with a purpose. Lots of overlaps, lots of rotation up front, lots of early pressure on the passed and his recipients.

All the old guard are taking responsibility (Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Klose) and guys like Hummels, Kroos and Müller are playing as good as anybody at their position.

I am absolutely excited for Sunday, there is nothing bigger for me as a sports fan than a WC final.

This was unbelievable. I mean, for Germany to do this to Saudi Arabia is one thing, but to do it to Brazil...in Brazil...during the semi-finals of the World Cup is pretty epic. They will talk about this one for decades.

This is the most shocking result I've ever witnessed in sport. Just... whoa.

It's like Brazil was a high school team in the back - no challenging the offense, having the ball passed around in the 18.

I don't think it was rigged, apart from anything else all the Brazilian players are multi-millionaires already, do you really think they need the money considering the likely hassle they and their families are likely to get after that defeat?

(bear in mind that Football is taken quite passionately in Brazil ...)

I'm assuming that it was a tongue in cheek comment: zero chance of it actually being rigged. Just a culmination of what we have seen so far:

Brazil over invested in the emotion of their home WC, as evidenced by their tears and reaction to the anthems, against a German side known for calmness, efficiency - the polar opposite

At the same time no Neymar, no Thiago Silva, and the leader was David Silva who is again a wild spirit, not the level headed attitude required

And Brazil not really in form, while Germany played a blinder

Perfect storm, that was all

This is like saying the canada hockey Team could be bought at the vancouver olympics. Multi millionairs with a shot at god-status in their home country (and a collective hundreds of mio in endorsements waiting, just as a bonus)

Heck, why wouldn't you spend billions to bid/bribe/maneuver your way through the years of WC selection process, build a bunch of stadiums in your poor-ass country, and get your populace all fired up, in order to take a historically humiliating dive to Germany, at home in the semi-finals? It just makes too much sense.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. So you're saying that Brazil was a bunch of wimps and Germany was a group of robots?

I have a hard time believing that even this Brazil team, which undoubtedly is not as good as the 1994-2002 version, is so mentally weak that they would just collapse after a goal in the 11th minute. We're talking about one of the most passionate soccer nations in the world.

Can you imagine the Heat losing LeBron and Battier, and going out and losing to the Spurs in the Finals 132-52? In Miami? Didn't think so.

Neymar doesn't play defense. And even with no Thiago Silva, and with David Luis as captain, the defense was supposed to be the stronger part of this Brazil team. How much difference does a captain really make? It's not cricket.

Definitely some of the players were paid off. The last five or six goals, it looked like only Julio Cesar was giving any effort to stop those goals. The Brazilian back line were standing around doing nothing, like policemen in New Orleans.

You want to tell me that Germany is that good? They couldn't even beat Ghana! They should have pasted the U.S. 4-0 or 5-0.
