We have to remember though, this is based on a society where 14 year old women were routinely married off and expected to immediately have kids. Hence 'pedophile' means something entirely different. I don't think Pycelle qualifies.

I just read that there is only about 13 hours left in the tv series. Sounds like possibly a pair of 6-8 episode seasons the next two years to wrap it up.

I was wondering if it was going to turn into one of those how many 5 year olds could you take? Although I guess that wouldn't normally include knives. Weird that when they showed his spryness in that one episode that it never really came up again. |

I'll be satisfied with that. GRRM will never finish the series so this is the next best thing. Looking forward to some spin offs also. |

Probably depends how many episodes they can contractually extend season 7 to without renegotiating and 7 episodes and waiting an entire year for the final 6 is going to be much bullahit. |

If they milk 6-7 episodes for season 7, and wait 9 months for another 6-7 episodes, I think that will annoy people. I will be annoyed. Doesn't take much though for me to get annoyed at anything anymore
I would prefer 6-7 episodes next year as normal, then 4-6 months off and then finish it up at the end of the year. So March and April, then November and December and done. Finish it up in 2017. It works for WD and BB even did similar stuff and I like that setup more. |

It seems to be the new 'thing' - Breaking Bad and Mad Men both did the 7 & 6 'final season'

I was looking back at the timing of HBO series seasons - remember when the Sopranos took 21 months off before the final season? Since then, HBO has mostly stayed with consistent with seasons starting around the same time every year. I wouldn't be surprised to see GOT starting the last two seasons in April 2017 and April 2018, which each season just ending a few weeks earlier than they have so far.

As annoying as it would be to have two seasons of game of thrones at 6-7 episodes a piece versus the normal 10 I would be shocked if they didn't. No way will they take their biggest cash cow and make one long season when they could extend it to two.
The plan of one half early and one half at the end of the year sounds fine to me, but I'll put money on it being the same just shorter seasons. |

Nothing unexpected, but Season 7 delayed til next summer instead of spring, and only 7 episodes.

At this point, no matter what he keeps saying, I think he's completely given up. And also with the new canon that's being established every week on TV, I think it's totally screwing him up and whatever he had planned for the ending (if any). Only a month and a half until the debut, I can't wait! |

I don't think he'll ever finish. Best case scenario is Winds of Winter come out when he's 70. Then he's looking at wrapping everything up in a final book which could easily take a decade or more at his pace.

Also I don't think the show is screwing him up with the ending much at all as he's already said the mediums are taking different paths to the end. He has also already mentioned a big twist that he's put in since the show moved past the books.

Kinda weird that GRRM's final books are going to end up feeling like fan fiction.

They really are taking different paths. The books have been getting slower and slower, and really bogging down, while the TV show has been getting faster, and if we are to believe what we're told, it picks up even more in Season 7.

I think this season might be a little slower paced than last season. It really felt like they spent the first 3-4 episodes of last season quickly tidying up some of the 18,000 different threads going on to setup the home straight.

It is pretty common for shows in their next to last season to spend much of their time setting up the ending and not actually doing much. We'll see here, I'm very excited either way. |

Political machinations, possibly. But Dany & the Dothraki horde are finally in Westeros (and Arya as well I guess, though that thread was much longer in the books than the show). That consolidation of geography & focus on Westeros alone will make things feel much tighter imo. Last edited by BishopMVP : 05-26-2017 at 01:32 AM. |

I got to 34. Could not remember what sent Jon Snow out to Craster's place.
Edit: it helps that I have been introducing my girlfriend to the show and have re-watched seasons 1-3 in the last month or two. We just started season 4. Last edited by Vince, Pt. II : 06-18-2017 at 02:39 PM. |

Re-watched season 6 over the past week, so much I'd forgotten. Season 6 was just intense, so many memorable moments... Pumped for tonight!

A video from a YouTube channel called "Lessons from the Screenplay". It's about how the makers of the show use music and troupes/clichés (ex: "The Rule of Three") against the audience as a way to evoke emotion.

Lots of placesetting/piece-moving, which i think is pretty standard for a GoT opener, and it seemed like significant movement. Time will tell whether that's enough given the shortened season though. I enjoyed it personally, but not really a lot to say about it. I am greatly looking forward to seeing how far Arya's killing spree will go. |

I enjoyed it. I thought there was alot of content.
I enjoyed the scene with Arya and the soldiers, it was a nice change of pace. I didn't realize that was Sheeran until after but didn't think it was good or bad (but glad he had a chance, as a fan, to be part of the series). I also did miss the Mormont part. I saw the scene with him in the cell but don't recall actually seeing a face (?), maybe I looked away or something. Liked the beginning scene but IMO their suffering was too quick for their treachery, she should have prolonged it some. Jon & Sansa scene was good. It seemed out of place considering last season but it was good that both expressed contradictory beliefs. FWIW, I sided with Sansa on this, definitely split up the spoils among your proven allies. Its looking to me that Cersei is on the losing end. Here's hoping she ends up at the Watch. The Hound and the fire scene was a little weird. Lady Mormont was great (as usual), I wonder if/how there will be a reunion with Jorah. Its hard for me to believe that "dragon glass" would have been forgotten about if there was a bunch of it. The ah ha moment was somewhat disappointing. |

If he was a white walker or a storm trooper in a helmet or something, great. It just felt really weird having a cameo from one of the most famous and recognisable faces in pop music right now, and singing of all things. Cool for Ed Sheeran, but for me it ruined the scene by taking me right out of Westeros. The scene itself was a bit strange too... I guess it's good that we see soldiers who aren't looking to rape every girl they come across in the woods for a change, but it just felt like it was tacked on the script to give a singing scene to Sheeran.
Rest of the episode was OK, typical first episode of a season. Agree that Lady Mormont was great as always, one of the best characters outside of the original POV characters. Some of the dialogue felt a bit awkward to me though, particularly Cersei/Jamie. Not so much the scene with Euron (which was quite good), but the scene with the two of them together felt off to me. Not sure how folks missed the scene with Jorah (seen it commented a bit online) - didn't see his face, but given his arm/voice/question about Daenerys, it was pretty clear to me.

I think it's safe to say the Ed Sheeran does not slot neatly into the FOFC demographic, but he's had two #1 albums in the US and 5 top 10 singles in the past 3 years, and his look is pretty... unique?? in the world of pop.
It would be like having George Michaels pop up in a 1980s Game of Thrones series as a troubadour in the woods or something.
