Interesting. The way Gonzalez looked there I would have stuck with him for Zoby. He went right after Damon which is very successful in the post season.

Mike Gonzalez came in and got Damon to K on three pitches. Now Feliz is coming in for the long save opportunity.

And Feliz gets the K of Zobrist. But not without some drama. A wild pitch moved the go ahead run into scoring position. It would be nice if the Rangers can get a couple of insurance runs here.

Kinsler got a 2 out double, but Andrus flied out to end the inning.

Time for Feliz to put up or shut up. Three out and no runs is all the Rangers fans ask.

Flip over to the Tigers game and it's already 2-0 Yankees.

5-4-3 double play to end the game. Feliz gets the save, and Colby Lewis gets the win after throwing 6 innings of 1 hit ball.

The sound that TBS plays whenever a graphic pops up is really annoying. It sounds like a knife being sharpened or something. Who thought playing this a few times every half inning was a good idea?

Verlander left in a little too long. Back to being tied up at 4-4.

Tigers win, but their pitching towards the end made it more exciting than it needed to be.

Valverde K's Jeter to get the save, with two men on. Both of the games tonight had big nailbiting moments from the 7th inning on.

Girardi made some questionable moves in Game 2 and made another one tonight. Sabathia wasn't his normal self yet Girardi left him in for one inning too many and it cost them. He had a well rested Soriano, Robertson, and Rivera.

Yankees season rests on AJ Burnett. He could go out there and pitch 6 shutout innings or give up 5 runs in the 2nd, you just never know with him. I think if the Yankees can get it back to NY they win.

Can we get automated strikes and balls called yet? It is the 21st century after all.

Agree with everything here. Girardi really mismanaged tonight.

Gerry Davis had a tight zone but it seemed like he opened it up for Verlander later in the game, especially to lefties. Cano got a called strike 3 on a ball up in the zone that he hadn't called all night. At one point Verlander threw a called ball, threw to the exact same location the next pitch and it was strike 3. Not sure how these guys keep getting to call playoff games.

I love the complete randomness of 2' to the left being a strike. I thought for a second that graph was inches but when it's feet, that's just embarrassing. But if you're high and inside but within the strike zone to the right- that's a ball.

If the Tigers can't finish off the Yankees at home with Burnett pitching, they don't deserve to win.

Fell about 70 feet short of a 4th homer.

Does Nellie Cruz ever get a hit when the score differential is less than 8 runs? The dude is the biggest stat whore in the game I swear. Not often do I see him do much in close games.

He had 2 GWRBI in the playoffs last year.

Well he has been below average in high leverage situations for his career. Not nearly as bad as I made it sound.

Just simply saying I would guess the majority of his homers came this year when the Rangers were up 4 or more runs.

I can't get quite that close without waaaay more work than I'm interested in doing but I can point you to a couple of things that might be of interest to you, including one that seems likely to lend itself to your perception.

Nelson Cruz 2011 Batting Splits - Baseball-Reference.com

-- 17 of his 29 homers came in "low leverage" situations, only 3 came in "high leverage" situations.

-- 8 of his 29 homers came with a margin >4 runs, but not sure how many came when the difference was exactly 4 runs. (not clear whether they were up or down on those margins either)

-- Only 2 were in late/close situations

-- 17 with the team ahead, 9 with the team behind, 3 with the team tied

FWIW, his splits were much more flattering last year when he actually hit more (9) with the team behind than with them leading (7) or tied (6)

Closer than I like, but the Rangers move on to the ALCS! If the Tigers win tonight or next game, I have tickets to Game 1 on Saturday. If the Yankees win the next two, I have tickets to Game 3 on Tuesday. If the game is on Saturday, they better not schedule it for the same time as Texas-OU!

Crap. I don't understand why you walk Ruiz in that situation. I understand it chased Hammels from the game, but he was starting to struggle anyway.

Glad to escape that one with a win. Now, worst case scenario, we have Halladay in Game 5 at CBP. If the Phils lose that, then the Cards are just the better team.
