I know this is heresy, but is there anything that can be done on a global stage to prevent this "goal and then defensive turtling for 80 minutes" that we're going to see?

Even in replay, I still can't say either way if he got clipped. I believe the ref made the approrpriate call though.

The French are taking a US approach to defending set pieces.

i want whatever they poured on Perotta's ankle. Fucker nearly had to have it amputated, but they poured the contents of a gatorade bottle on it, and he's perfect.

Only 2 minutes being added on?! I'm surprised.

2 minutes of extra time? Henry was down for about 4. Perotta was down for another 2. Add at least 1 minute for each goal as well.

I was also surprised at the really short amount of injury time... seemed like it shoud have been 4+.

Henry twice could have gone down for a penalty but didn't... he's finally showing his club form.

yep. not so much a makeup, but he's being cautious of not calling 2 penalties on 2 close ones. I like it.

It was offsides on one guy clearly, but for Toni, he was on. The other guy was not in the play, so the goal should have stood. Since I want Italy to lose, I like the call.

Nice shirt pull in the box. That was beyond normal. Frankly, I thought Italy was lucky there with the way they have been calling shirt pulls.

Damn, I gotta run and go play soccer. Extra time sucks. I've been out 4 weeks with a foot injury so I am dying to play again in the beautiful sunshine. Good thing the VCR was invented. Don't have Tivo yet. Go France!

You know, I know it's not what they're singing, but I was wondering if I was the only one who thought that's what it sounded like.

Italy looks REALLY tired and I kind of think I'd have called a foul on the guy who tackled from the side/back without hitting the ball...

I like this sub.

A great scorer coming on against a very tired defense.

Zidane looks like his shoulder is still really bugging him.

He's not moving it when he runs, it's more or less glued to his side, that sucks.

Is the entire Italian squad in the back 1/4 of the field?

There is simply no way they didn't make that call based on a replay, FWIW.

ANd now France faces the prospect of PKs without Zidane and Henry....
