It NEVER fails... I get the notification that a no-hitter is going, I turned on the Padres game, first pitch - single to RF.

Sorry, dude. My bad.

Mets have been absolutely dreadful. Losing to the Rays is one thing, but if they play poorly against Cleveland this weekend I think Buck could be in some trouble.

The Marlins currently have the worst run differential in the NL and they have a winning record.

Great win for the Mets tonight in a really fun game. Hopefully this springboards them to a streak.

The Cardinals have the worst record in the NL and a positive run differential.

I'm so convinced that those fuckers will be in the playoff hunt come August.

Time for Buck Showalter to go. The lineups he keeps trotting out are inexcusable at this point. Alvarez has been one of the best hitter in the game the last month and he continues to bat 9th. Took forever to move Baty up. The called up Vientos and he continues to ride the bench in favor of Pham and Vogelbach.

It's a joke at this point.

Francisco Alvarez is impossible not to like. The guy absolutely mashes and has worked his ass off to improve behind the plate. Never gonna be Pudge back there, but average is more than enough with the bat potential.

No surprise: Telling the judge that "Hey, we screwed up when we bought the company, we want to pay less because we misjudged the business" was never going to fly.

Elly De La Cruz called up for the Reds. I hope he can keep up his production from AAA. He's been Billy Hamilton with 80 power this year.

edit: dammit Steve

Yeah, from what I read, he's the prospect with the highest chance of being a superstar. He's also progressed FAR quicker than anybody thought he would.

Tools wise he's an insane talent.

I like Jackson Holiday and James Wood a bit better but I think those 3 are just a matter of preference at this point.

It really comes down to how well his hit tool develops. He's hit the ball harder and thrown it faster than any other position player at any level this year and had just silly, little-league-type baserunning exploits.

He and James Wood have similar concerns. You don't see many guys their size/build with good hit tools.

Meanwhile, Stephen Strasburg is likely finished with nerve damage. $245 million guaranteed for 31 innings.

Alek Manoah was sent to the Complex League because he can't find the strike zone.

Mas Fried now on the 60 day IL and not looking good. And nice story Mike Soroka got sent down after 3 years off after multiple Achilles injuries.

Not a great time to be an MLB pitcher.

I don't think we'll see Chris Sale anytime soon either.

This has to impact the market for free agent pitchers approaching 30. Strasburg's contract wasn't insured, presumably because nobody would cover him.

I was at the game. He looks really good for sure. The only knock against him was that he got the putout in the 9th that kept us from getting free pizza. He drops the ball, we can get one more K and get free pizza. It was disappointing all around.

I'm still pissed I spent money on that bullshit game. Any other team, I'd have been happy as a clam for the Reds, just not that one and the way it ended. Uff Da.

ESPN's baseball broadcasts have been bad for ages. They can't decide what they want to be. They tried going with smart, informative broadcasts for a while but Hershiser was told to dumb things down. I'm probably spoiled watching Mets broadcasts, but what ESPN is doing now is just bad.

Elly de la Cruz hit a baseball very hard.

Actually, that's underselling it.

He hit a baseball VERY hard.

No, still not enough.

He hit a Baseball VERY VERY HARD.

How hard? 114 MPH off the bat, 458 feet, and landing in the back row of the stadium.

Streamable Video

The best thing about that was the call on tv.

It went something like this.

"OH MY! THAT BALL HAD A FAMILY!"

That Braves-Mets game last night was crazy. It was also the same night the Braves had Chipper, Smoltz, Glavine and Franceour all in the booth calling the game. The sound bites were hilarious. Greg Maddux even called in at one point.

Elly is struggling to put the bat on the ball, but in just a few games he already has the fastest time to first in 2023, the fastest time from home to 3rd in four years, and the two hardest-hit balls for the Reds this season.
