Can't wait for 1.1 to make small leagues playable again. Maybe a small 12-16 team FOFC league?

FYI that's something that has been looked into but really isn't possible(assuming you are talking about OOTP's Lahman-imports). There is no comparable database available for basketball, partly due to the fact that many key stats weren't even kept for the first few decades of NBA history.

Seriously having an immense amount of fun with this game right now! I didn't quite "get it" when I first tried it, just because I had never played before and am not a huge basketball guy.
But wow...this game rocks. Just playing the demo right now, but is there a way for me to change the team names to the real ones? |

I played the first DDS: Pro Basketball and didn't really enjoy it all that much (I don't remember the specifics as to why). This game, however, is outstanding and I strongly recommend anyone that's basketball fan or on the fence about it to give it a try.
Recently the only reason to get excited about text sims is the annual releases of FM and OOTP, which honestly gets old after awhile. I've wanted a new text sim to play for the past couple of years and this is definitely one I'll be playing for awhile. I feel like a viral marketer posting that, but this game is really good. |

I bought the game earlier in the week but haven't had a chance to give it a run, work has been rough this week. But the weekend is here and I should have some time. Looking forward to it.
Gary, were you able to get that schedule modifier for 82 games/32 teams (expansion) into the 1.1 upcoming release? |

Ok so what are you looking for? Something where you can try to create a roster file through the program like a create-a-player type thing? Personally I always find it easier to create the rosters in excel (and then copy to Access) because all the players and data and what not is just on one screen rather than a screen for editing every single player. I mean right now the game does have an in game editing feature where if you login to your league as commissioner and right click on players from the roster you can edit all their bio stuff and ratings all on one screen but that's obviously for an existing league. If you give me some guidance on what you're looking for maybe I can make it happen. We also had a free roster utility program for the previous DDSPB that Bryan Swartz developed - maybe give that a look and see if that's kind of what you had in mind. |

Thank you - I too feel this is a huge upgrade to the previous game and is far more enjoyable. And please - tell anyone and everyone if you like the game. I really think the game is at the "breakout" point in its development. OOTP was a game without much of a following at one point too but a bunch of people got behind it and then the game was able to take off - that's what I need to happen and I feel that the game is finally good enough to be worthy of doing that. |

How is the game's stability? I never could play DDS:PB or DDS:CB due to the games constantly crashing a few seasons in. Since Gary tried really hard to resolve the issue, I'm willing to give this a second chance if it is actually playable. Have there been any reports of stability problems like the previous games?

That's great and much appreciated! I understand the rationale for balanced but that was never a needed option for me. 10 games less in a regular season was more valuable to me than a balanced schedule. Less chance for an injury |

I think others have said that the game is a ton more stable, IIRC. I still need to buy this game. But since I just went out and bought a new cellphone, until I can get work to pay me back for it, this is going to have to wait a little bit - like maybe until next month.

I had some crashing problems through the beta with Vista but Gary patiently worked through those issues and game has played very well for me since then.

I'm obviously biased, but this is one of the more crash free games that Gary has ever released, probably in part because he moved to the latest .net language and libraries that have way less compatibility issues, but also because it has been beta tested for a long time before release (thanks to the betatesters btw).
Just take a look at the support forum at WS and you won't see more than a couple of crash reports on very specific situations.

Why it is assumed by certain developers that everyone has Microsoft Access?
I don't, and it was a PITA to edit rosters/data files for Wolverine/Grey Dog Software stuff in the past. Last edited by RedKingGold : 10-15-2010 at 11:18 AM. |

Well its not assumed everyone does but what's a better way? I don't know if people aren't reading my posts but I went in and built it right into the game to be able to edit a player bio and ratings information.
Now if you or anyone else has a way they would like to be able to create an entire roster file please just let me know. |

Perhaps I was not clear that I was not making that comment based on DDSPB2, rather, it was a general statement because Access is referenced multiple times in this thread. I just did not understand if it was assumed that everyone has that program or does not. That being said, I'm still interested in DDSPB2, and will at least try the demo when I get some free time. I loved TPB back in the day, and I assume DDSPB2 is leaps and bounds over that. But, I'm reading right that team names/nicknames are not editable in game yet, correct? Or, at least, that the process is somewhat cumbersome at this time? |

Agreed, however, it's a shame that developers (in general) requires us to use third-party software to get the most out of their programs. To use Solecismic/FOF as an example, the ideas put out there by Stelmack's Utility Suite and Primelord's Change Tracker are excellent "no-brainer" ideas, yet Jim still refuses to incorporate those ideas into his product despite the fact they make the game much more enjoyable to consumers. (EDIT: Sorry for the rant, don't want to take this topic too off course). |

It depends on how cumbersome you feel it it is to go to the Team Info screen and edit the names there. It's a little bit more clicky than some would like perhaps, but it's not time-intensive or anything.

I hope you do try it out - the changes are huge from DDSPB1 to DDSPB2 let alone from back in the TPB days. Also it was requested to be able to edit all the team names in league setup so I will be trying to incorporate that as well. Also with the roster creation/Access stuff...I think everyone has to understand that "extras" like the mentioned FOF utility suite and stuff like that have come from the community who have tried the game and decided to support it through both $ and time. It's one reason why I spend time here trying to get this community involved - I'll do anything I can to make the game better - open up any numbers or work with people who want to make utilities....I am not looking in any way, shape or form to restrict anyone from doing that or making rosters or adding new HTML reports or anything else. But if its something time intensive that only one person wants or may or may not even use then its got to be fairly low on my priority list of changes to make so that I can make the changes that will benefit the most people first. If someone out there wants to build a roster creator (or expand on the one that Bryan made as freeware for DDSPB1) or make some kind of utility or whatever I'm happy to help make the process work out for you or whatever. Heck if there's something good enough that would enhance the game I'd more than be willing to include it or talk to you about purchasing it to include it or whatever. This is a great gaming community and I'm just hopeful that the community can increase its support for the game. I'm pleased with the reaction so far - its been far more positive than any of my previous games and I like to see that there are new people who are saying "basketball isnt my thing but I really like the game and can get into it still". I really think that if the community can support it with good discussion, mods, etc...that it can get to the levels of your favorite games and if there's something I can do to help you make a mod or whatever I'm happy to do it. |

So far I'm enjoying the game a lot. I used to have a lot of crashing problems with DDSCB and DDSPB1 which would require a reboot of the computer, but no such problems this time around. I had one crash on June 19th, but this was fixed with the 1.01 patch (Euro league problem apparently).
I'm really enjoying the player personalities, I had 2 guys that would CONSTANTLY fight, it seems like I'd get the fighting email once a week. I got rid of one at the end of the season. The draft was a LOT of fun, really enjoyed the whole process although it seems like all of the top players lost potential from the draft to training camp. I do enjoy watching the games play themselves out, the court graphics are more than enough for my imagination and combined with the media interaction you really feel like you're managing a team of personalities and not just stats. I also do like how the computer generated draft guys now have images attached, that way as you slowly wean yourself off the existing NBA guys, you still have images of the players that you can relate to. It really does make a big difference. |

I am having fun with the game but I am having a slight issue..I am in GM mode...Sloan is running the team and I cut Price to sign a new free agent...well, Jerry isn't modifying my depth chart but it's not letting me modify it at all..so I can't sim forward.
Any help would be appreciated...

What stage of the season did you do this at? I assume you are playing on local control since you are expecting the coach to change the depth chart.
I ask because I just ran a test and Oct 31 I cut Price and it immediately redid the depth chart. Then I signed Flip Murray and once again it changed the depth chart to add Murray so tell me what you did so I can recreate it. Thanks |

Ok...it's working now...but here was the issue. I have 2 players I sent to the d-league...I wanted to call them up and play them and Price wasn't getting the PT and so I released him. Jerry should have taken into account the 2 players for the depth chart but he wouldn't. I had to sign a FA and then he does...I don't know if this is how it is supposed to work or not.

Oh - well the head coach cannot call players up from the d-league. If they are on the inactive list just because you have more than 12 guys he will adjust but he cannot perform the GM action of calling up a player from the dleague. If you would have recalled one of them then it should have fixed the depth chart automatically |

BTW Gary, negotiating with staff could use an overhaul.
Coach wants 1.6 million a year. I offer 1.4 Coach wants 1.8 million I offer 1.6 (what he originally wanted) Coach wants 1.9??? WTF.. The point of negotiating is to meet in the middle, not give the guy hat he wants exactly just so he doesn't jack up the price..
