Overall Standings Analysis
So at the end of the first day we are already starting to see the shuffling that was mentioned after the high jump. Peltonen's excellent effort in the 400 moves him up from 6th to 2nd. Chilton also climbs into the top three. Nielsen, Ketola, and Jordan all suffered after (expected) poor results in the 400. Babson was able to perform well enough to maintain his approximately 100 point lead. Some changes in the middle of the pack as well...the bottom remains unchanged. |

Event 6 - Hurdles - Heat 1
Lane 2 – Ketola Lane 3 – Babson Lane 4 – Nielsen Lane 5 – Honcho Lane 6 – Jordan Lane 7 – Mighty Lane 8 – Rambis Lane 9 – Schaplowsky The runners are ready and they are off with the gun…Mighty got a great start as he and Schaplosky seem to have the early lead. Oh…Honcho clipped the very first hurdle, which caused him to stumble, going to be hard to get his speed back up now. Schaplowsky is looking smooth through the middle of the course. Mighty is working to stay with him. Behind Mighty it is pretty tightly bunched…Rambis, Ketola, and Babson are stride for stride, with Nielsen on their heals. Jordan is in 7th and Honcho is still trying to find his stride after his early mistake. Unless he trips on one of the last couple hurdles Schaplowsky will win this heat, and Mighty will be behind him. The rest are still too close to call…but Babson has started clipping hurdles…he’s hit 3 in a row and it’s cost him some speed. Rambis currently has a slight lead on Ketola, but he’s obviously hurting. Jordan is starting to close on Babson, having already passed Nielsen. Schaplowsky does win. Mighty second. Third is too tough to call. Ketola closed hard on Rambis, but I couldn’t tell at the line. Jordan charges to the line, but he doesn’t quite catch Babson… Nielsen is 7th, and Honcho brings up the rear. Official times… Schaplowsky- 13.95 Mighty – 14.15 Rambis – 14.25 Ketola – 14.25 Babson – 14.4 Jordan – 14.45 Nielsen – 14.6 Honcho – 15.6 |

Event 6 - Hurdles - Heat 2
Lane 2 – Path Lane 3 – Palmiero Lane 4 – Ginsberg Lane 5 – Peltonen Lane 6 – Bafou Lane 7 – Llyw Lane 8 – Chilton I expect this heat will be much faster than the first… At the start it already is, as all but Llyw get out of the blocks quickly. Through the first hurdles things are tight, but Peltonen, Ginsberg, and Chilton appear to be hitting their stride better than the rest, and not surprisingly Llyw seems to be off a bit, having to chop his steps coming into his jumps…which is preventing him from getting any real speed. At the halfway point, Ginsberg looks to be establishing himself, exploding off each jump and starting to pull away from this fast field. Bafou has hit a hurdle hard and it cost him a good bit of time. As we come to the finish, Ginsberg is looking phenomenal. Chilton and Peltonen are neck and neck with Palmiero trying to close but seemingly unable to. Path has had a solid run, and has passed Bafou. Llyw seems content to just finish at this point. Ginsberg wins it going away. It’s close for second but Chilton’s lean seems to give him second. Peltonen has a great run for 3rd. Palmiero comes across next followed by Path about a half stride back. Bafou and Llyw round out the field. Official results Ginsberg – 13.65 Chilton – 13.85 Peltonen – 13.9 Palmiero – 14.2 Path – 14.5 Bafou – 14.8 Llyw – 15.2 |

Event 6 - Hurdles - Event Recap
Lot's of extremes in this one: Winners Nielsen – rolled the best result in the column (only 4 results better in the allout column and they were no more than .1 better) Ketola – only 2 rolls better in the entire colum Peltonen – only the low end 13.6 was lower in the column Losers Honcho – hit the worst outcome in the column… Palmiero – only 1 roll worse in the column, plus several competitors around him in the standings outperformed their expectations and actually beat Palmiero head up. Llyw – hit one of the three 15.2s in the column, the worst outcome possible Interesting Babson – had he stayed at conservative he would have hit the only row in the event where the fastest time was in the conservative column, and his time would have improved by .25 seconds. Overall Standings - Overview
Chilton and Peltonen have built on their move up the standings by closing in on Babson, cutting his 100 point lead in half. Nielsen, though he performed well in the hurdles, slid further back, but he has several strong events coming up so don't count him out yet. The middle jumbled a bit with Llyw dropping several places and Palmiero leapfrogging Path. While at the bottom of the standings Ginsberg made a nice move with his strong event, and Schaplowsky closed the gap on several athletes in front of him. |

Event 7 - Discus - First Atttempt
Schaplowsky – he spins, tosses, and it’s a nice start. His throw measures in at 183 feet, so just over his typical average attempt, now he can work on improving with his next two tosses. I count 10 of the 27 results in the average column that are better, including several on very reasonable rolls. I also count 13 of 20 results that are better in the allout column. Babson – one of the favorites in this event, looking for a good score to open up his overall lead, and his first toss is a good one…190 feet on the nose. That’s about average for him as well. Will be interesting to see if he takes his next couple of attempts. Every other time he’s gotten a good start, he’s rested, is this one good enough? I count 13 of 27 rolls better than your current score, but 8 are rare rolls…7 rolls are over 200 feet. Only 5 results in the allout column are lower. Llyw – his first throw, like the two before him are about dead on his average attempt. He records a distance of 164 feet. About dead on average in the allout column, 5 of 20 outcomes are lower in allout. Path – Path takes his first attempt, and it looks like he stands up and comes out of the spin a little early…this results in a poor throw measuring only 173 feet. Lower end result…Only 4 rolls lower in average column Ginsberg – His first effort looks like it is going to be a really good one to build on…It lands out around the 160 foot line. The measure is announced at 159, that’s well over his typical result, so a nice start in the event for David. I count only 4 results better in the average column, a 163 on an extremely rare roll of 10 and 3 160 foot distances. I count 11 of 20 results better in allout. Bafou – wow…big throw here. He was a bit late with the release so the discus is hugging the foul line…it lands…fair – no white flag. We’ll have to wait on the distance but he’s clearly pleased…it measures in at 181 feet. Only the max score of 183 is better in the average column. In allout I only count 5 results better, 4 of which are not likely to be rolled. Palmiero – here’s another good attempt…Palmiero is also smiling, knowing he’s got a good starting point to work from. The throw is 183 feet. Still 11 results better in the column, including some on very possible rolls. 7 of 20 rolls are shorter in the allout column. Nielsen – Nielsen, spins, throws, and he’s off balance…he steps on the toe board and we have our first foul of the event. Ketola – he follows Nielsen’s lead and ends up with the white flag raised. Second consecutive foul in the event. Honcho – an OK start for Honcho…toss lands just under 190…officially the distance is 187. About 60% of the results in the ave column are better…some much better. Only 5 results out of 20 worse in allout. Mighty – On the board with a throw of 150’. 14 rolls better in ave (6 of them in the teens so low probability), 15 out of 20 results better in allout. Chilton – Form is sloppy…and the rotation is a slow because of that. Of course this leads to a less than satisfying effort on Chilton’s part. The throw only measures 140’. Only 2 results shorter in average. Rambis – This is going to be a good score to build off of. The toss is very good…maybe slightly higher than he wanted but the distance is still 181 feet. 9 results still better in average and 12 of 20 better in allout. Jordan – Throw of 163 feet is almost dead on his typical result. Looks like just under half the results in the average column are still better. Peltonen - didn’t make a good pass, looked like he was going to foul by hitting the toe board, which may have been the cause for the awkward form…but regardless the toss is only 152 feet, well off even his average attempt. This is the second shortest throw on the average column. |
