All that work only to lose my starting MLB in the NFC semis and lose to the Giants in the NFC Championship.
What an awesome game... FOF7 was definitely worth the wait. |

Is there a way to export a draft class to excel to get a more detailed look? This would be for single player if it makes a difference.

The Export function creates a rookies.csv when it is run between the start of free agency and the draft.

This is fairly nitpicky but it has always bothered me that the player card doesn't have their age. I know we have DOB and current year but it would be so much easier to eyeball players by age to figure out if it's worth offering big money at FA. Unless I'm really blind and have missed the spot it is in all these years. Has Jim ever addressed why it isn't there?

Whoa! Just heard the news about the new release! Timing couldn't be better, as two weeks of winter vacation just started yesterday. Off to buy now.

Not sure where to put this but this is a few of the things I would like to see added in a patch if feasible...
-Being able to scroll year-to-year in the "Team Summary" screen. You can do it on virtually every other screen, Standings, Schedules, Stats, etc. Never understood why you can't do it here and was really hoping that would be included in this version. -Combine numbers stay on the player card for their career (or the players re-do a combine every season - it seems they may already be doing the 40 and bench press). Also, I'd like the numbers on the player card to be in red, blue and green as they are on the draft screen. -Statistics on the amateur draft history screen, shown in a similar manner to the "Players of the Week" screen. |

I would love the current scout estimate number to also be present on the contract roster screen (ideally on all the roster screens actually)

I want to add that this game is definitely challenging compared to my experience with previous releases. I did not FOF 2k7, but prior version I could usually build a dynasty playing casually (doing my draft and free agency then simming season and automating a lot of things. )
I've played close to 20 seasons in my first franchise playing fairly casually (automating roster fill ins, depth charts and game plans) I sign my own free agents, handle releasing players / renegotiation, the draft, etc... But do so on a casual level, usually looking at my scout estimate and not looking for players who fit my system or a certain role. Overall, I made the playoffs 3 times, with two conference championship appearances and an overall record of about 15 games under 500. Looks like you can't build a winning franchise playing this casually. Last edited by Danny : 12-25-2013 at 08:45 AM. |

My wish list for this great game:
Having your players highlighted in red on the all-time team and individual season record screens. Having a trade for player button on he bottom of everybody's player card. This one is a real long shot but I tweak my gameplan for every game based on my opponents strengths and weaknesses and it would be great if the game automatically saved all game plans for the year next to the box score and game long icons on the weekly score screen. That way if its a division game or I see that team again the playoffs I can easily load up the game plan I used earlier in the season against them. On the Solecismic website it's stated that each player is rated for 53 separate skills. On the player cards I count anywhere from 31 to 36 skills, if you include current and potential ratings. I know there are a few hidden skills, but what would be the other skills that are rated?
Also, somewhere I read where it's stated how many variables go into determining each play result. I can't find it now. Does anyone know where that statement was made? Thanks. |

As far as the skills go - each player is rated in *all* the skills, even if they don't apply to his position or not (e.g. a RB is rated in throwing accuracy). There are 51 known skills in the game (you can count them in the pull down on the scouting recommendation screen) and 2 hidden (avoid ints & avoid fumbles).
As far as the variables that go into each play, I don't recall seeing that anywhere, but someone else might chime in. |

Thanks, dzilla. I'm pretty sure I saw something about the number of variables that go into each play outcome somewhere. It was something like 80 or 90 variables.

Freakin' 49ers. In year 33 and 34 finally made my first and second super bowl appearances and lose both times to the 49ers.

I have won back to back Super Bowls in the years 2022 and 2023 with Russell Wilson as my qb... You all are looking at one happy man!
Also I don't Rex much at all now. On defense I look at the film room and the team scouting report and base my tendencies on that. |

Oh and Kyle shanahan is my head coach. Which leads me to believe that mike shanahan must be the one causing the redskins to underachieve, it certainly can't be Kyle.

I just signed my 26 year old pro-bowl safety to a five year extension. In the last exhibition game of the pre-season, he suffers a career threatening knee injury and is out for two years. In that same game, I lost two corners, one for eight weeks. Earlier in the exhibition season, I lost my starting guard for the whole year.
I had my starting MLB and WR hold out. Not being able to afford them both, I cut my aging MLB thinking my 2nd year replacement I drafted might be ready to step in. During the draft, I traded next year's 1st for the chance to draft a maxed out WR, a position I've been weak at forever. I already traded away next year's second round pick. I figured with a 79 rated QB and coming off of three playoff appearances including two NFC finals, these would be low picks. After training camp, this maxed out WR is looking like a 70 player and already declining. The league scout has him rated as 56. Now that the season has started, with a decimated secondary that sees undrafted rookies starting, and an inexperienced MLB that can't stop the run, we're leaking like a sieve. The Giants are looking to gain a top ten pick for nothing. Hope Bears fans aren't too ticked that I raised ticket prices... Last edited by Karim : 12-29-2013 at 07:07 AM. |

This is the fist time I've come across FOF and what a wonderful game, I've just caned the trial so will be buying this soon and starting a SP dynasty report.
It's a shame there isn't historical player data on hand to see player totals when they retire without having to look up their pre-2013 stats and add them to what they produce in the game, bu that's a minor quibble. I have read that some people have issues with signing free agents but I didn't notice any of that in the trial mode, I ran two seasons as the Jags and signed every free agent I put an offer in for (including Matt Ryan), just using what they were asking for though, I didn't try and haggle. |

Historical Data! Thats what I would like to see. Is there a way to edit the files so that someone could include that information? It would be great as you go to see how players stack up.

This game is effing with my mind man. 51 seasons in, no titles but numerous heartbreak playoff losses (last minute/big comebacks) and about a dozen seasons of finishing with the best record only to come up empty including a 4 year stretch where I lost a total of 12 regular season games but didn't get the title.
Tonight I'm up 24-3 in the title game midway through the 3rd quarter and end up losing 27-24 in OT. I wanna punch something. |

We just won our second title in 5 seasons, but we have a pretty sturdy version of Mike Vick with better passing ability running the show, and when he is healthy we don't lose often. Couple that with a very strong dispersal draft and we have gotten out of the gates quick.. But the core is aging and my drafting has been poor outside of a few guys here and there, and I can see the struggles coming. We might have to try and trade the QB when he hits the last year of his deal and try to rebuild before it gets hard to watch.

Random question: Does the player file rate players through last season? Or since the game was released late into the 2013 season, does it factor in this season's performance as well when rating players?

it looks like it's mainly on last years-- probably a mid november relook at some ratings;
I'm redoing a lot of the ratings using end of year ratings and paring back the top heaviness to make it closer to the help files breakdowns ; I'll probably have it complete by the weekend and will post it up... |

What are people setting for an injury rating (I didn't see such a discussion anywhere else). I believe the help file says that realistic injuries would be generated from a setting of "more than 200", but what does that mean? 201? 450? 225?

I use 200. Tried 250 for a couple of seasons, but found it too ardous with Quik's AP structure. Probably was more realistic in terms of number of IR injuries though to be fair, but it was the ratings hits after more IRs that got me in the end. But 200 gives me enough injuries to cause problems without the 3-4 ruined players per season 250 seemed to lead to.

Agree that age on the player card would be nice. Seems like there's plenty of room for it. IIRC, similar games like FM2014/OOTP have both age and dob. Alternatively, I'd like to see the age on the player's individual season stats, the way it's done at pro-football-reference.com. Not only does it allow you to see the player's current age, but also let's you easily see the arc of a player's career by age. Again, seems like there's room. Compare: first attached image is Bo Jackson's individual season stats in FOF; second image is Bo Jackson's season stats aft PFR (not sure why they show up as links; if somebody knows how to make them display within the post, feel free to PM me. thx). Has anybody sent this feature request directly to Solecismic support? If not, one of us should do it (or all of us, heh). |

I'm finding 200 to be realistic and a challenge. I usually will end up between 10-15 guys banged up all the time and 2-3 eventually end up on IR. |

On the subject of injuries I had a guy who spent the whole season complaining about playing time go out at the start of the next with 'severe depression', with an unknown time of return. Unfortunately I managed to exit the game without saving and when I started again it didn't happen so I couldn't see how it played out.

I've got nowhere else to put this but I need to vent cause I'm feeling like a kicked dog right now.
52 years into my career, no titles. Edmonton rolls through the regular season at 14-2 and is up by 10 in the 4th quarter of the conference semi against visiting Toronto. They cut it to 7 and then this happens.
Of course they would march down the field and kick the FG. I gotta be near 80 at this point. I better not croak before I get my title. |

I drafted a player with the fantastic name of Dixon Dostoyevsky It was a genuine pick, but if the time comes when he is on the roster bubble, his name will give him an edge over others!

I suspect Jim just updated his name files to reflect SS data or the like... But on my current team I think I have four Conner/Connors, three Malachis, but probably a total of one guy named Robert, James, Michael, or (maybe most importantly) DaQwell.

I'd have to look at the data again, but at one point the name source files were just binary files with a ton of strings in them, easy to edit. I *think* names were repeated to represent frequency, but I don't remember for sure. I don't have the game installed yet at home to check. fnames.fdt and lnames.fdt were the files.

I stand corrected - these are string resource DLLs, lnames.dll and fnames.dll. There is no repetition, so I don't know if there is a frequency table built in to the exe, or how it randomly puts these together to decide on a name. These files are easily editable with Visual Studio or possibly ResHacker to change the names that exist, but I don't know if you can change the name count or not.

A couple of screens from OOTP that would be really useful in FOF are the salary obligations by year and the offseason summary by team screens.

So I'm about 70 seasons in and it's taking up a ton of space because I save every season. If I delete old seasons what will still be available to me in the game? I take it old box scores and logs will be gone?

If it's like FOF2k7, as long as you keep the year-end stats file (the leaguename.20xx files), the only thing you'd lose would be boxes/logs.
