If the players on the old contracts are good enough, it's no problem to go over the cap to keep them. If not, that's what trades are for.

Mirza Teletovic just agreed to a 3-year, $30 mil deal with Milwaukee. He played very well for the Suns last year and I think that's a pretty good signing. I'd rather be paying Teletovic $10 mil per for 3 than Ryan Anderson $17-20 mil per for 4.

Mirza hit nearly 40% from 3 last year as a 6-9 PF. The Bucks only have two players who hit more than 33% from 3 and they are both guards (Bayless and Middleton). The Bucks most common lineup was MCW (27% 3), Middleton, Giannis (25%), Jabari (25%) and Monroe (0%). Not much floor spacing there. Swap in Mirza for Jabari and you have two threats. They could also pair him with Bayless in the second unit to add more space. A big man who can shoot is exactly what the Bucks needed.

$10 million/year is bench player money. Al Jefferson on the same deal in Indiana should be pretty good too, especially if he can help Myles Turner learn some post moves. Evan Turner got $70-75 million for 4 years in Portland. Safe to say Neil Olshey won't be repeating as Executive of the Year. Chandler Parsons is on to Memphis for the max. Evan Fournier signed to a pretty reasonable deal in Orlando. Last edited by nol : 07-01-2016 at 03:36 PM. |

Grizz sign Parsons. Now I just hope he stays healthy. I don't know if he was max money but Conley wanted to play with him supposedly.

Turner for 4-$75 mil shows the new world we are in. A SG/SF who averaged a 10-4-5 and shot 24% from 3 is now making $18 mil per. Wow

Bayless just signed for 3-$27 mil with Philly. Not a bad deal in this market and it makes the Teletovic addition even more important to the Bucks.

Now the Bucks are closing in on a 4-year, $38 mil deal for Matthew Dellavedova I'd have rather kept Bayless for 3-$27.

Wasn't it known since last free agency period that contracts will go up like crazy this year and next year? Or am I imagining things?

Oh yeah, I just don't think people thought Evan Turner would get $70 mil and Mosgov would get $64 mil.

I don't know why NBA teams haven't been more aggressive in looking to sign guys who washed out of the league and have gone on to do well in Europe. I'd pay Ekpe Udoh $8 million a year before paying Mozgov twice that and it couldn't have taken close to that much to give someone a second/third chance in the NBA.

The NBA offered a plan to gradually increase the cap while sending the difference to the NBAPA to disperse to the players. The players shot that down. If you're a guy that isn't a free agent right now you have to pissed. Evan Turner now makes twice as much as Steph Curry. It's a good thing Austin Rivers isn't a free agent or Doc would make sure he got a max deal. |

Yeah, I like to think I've drilled myself well enough to think of the contracts as a percentage of the cap, and even then seeing borderline rotation-quality players get that much money seems way off to me. Evan Turner getting 1/6th of the salary cap? He'll be 28 when the season starts, so it's not like he has all this untapped potential. Call me crazy, but I would love to see Rondo reunited with Doc. He's a borderline starter so it's probably best for him to go somewhere that has a point guard so much better than him that there's no controversy with having him as the back-up. With what's getting thrown around today, you could talk me into 3 years, $30 million for someone who would certainly be an upgrade for the bench. Last edited by nol : 07-01-2016 at 06:00 PM. |

Dwight back to his hometown of Atlanta. 3 years, $70.5 million. Would be cool to see him to have a little revival, but it does seem to indicate that Horford is out the door for them.

Yeah, like I said during the draft it was a pretty iffy move even if Oklahoma City got more 'value' for a player who was going to be a free agent next season (and with that said, it was still pretty ridiculous for Orlando to give up that much for Ibaka. Not exactly a win-win trade), but them making that move in anticipation of Horford is some next-level thinking you can't help but applaud. Last edited by nol : 07-01-2016 at 07:18 PM. |

Doesnt even seem farfetched that the cavs match that offer ... Imo he would be a better fit than Bayless as well, especially if they are all-in on Point-Giannis. Bucks should try if anybody likes Monroe enough with his now decent looking contract to get some value back ... Conley getting the full 5 year Max seems kinda crazy as well. I love his play but thats still a ton of money for a (premier) game manager ...

Howard getting that type of money is a slap in the face to anybody who works hard or gives two shits about what they do for a living.
This guy is a no-talent hack who has shown no desire to try over and over again, yet here he is taking in $70M. Must be nice.

The Celtics sound like they're going to strike out on Durant, "lost out" on Howard ((dodged a bullet there), and it's down to Horford to make a big splash.

He might be a cry baby and have a list of issues to give one pause but no-talent hack is a bit of hyperbole for a dude that's been to at least one NBA finals and isn't over the hill yet. I mean, it's no different on the relativity scale to the asshole in the office who makes more than you'd want to pay him, because he's a jerk, but it's not like you're getting tons of guys to come work at the Piggly Widgets for the timing, price and knowing you need to fill the spot with somebody. So you overpay, but not really overpaying in this market, to get him to come plug a spot and hope he makes it worth the while. But trying to compare a capped salary league where the money has to go SOMEPLACE isn't really a fair comparison.

He's a decent enough complimentary piece. Not sure if money has any sense of reality left in the NBA at this point.

Who do you want? Outside of KD (who's slightly more likely to come now) he's the best free agent for the team on the market and a clear upgrade on Sully/Amir/Zeller. Who cares if he's getting $28m/y when Evan Turner is making 19, Mozgov 16, etc (and Sully will likely get 15- 20). Especially when we have so many guys on ELC's we literally had to spend like $45m on 3 roster spots to even reach the salary floor. |

Local coverage in ATL suddenly buzzing that Hawks are actively trying to trade Millsap for cap relief in order to resign Horford.
This day just gets shittier & shittier.

With the cap increasing, the valuation of what players are worth automatically increase.
It's basically a closed market of 450 players sharing a ridiculous amount of money. So everyone's worth automaticlaly increases. $8-$10 million per year is now bench money, and you have to start from there. Superstars will be paid upwards of 30 million a year.

So Noah signs for only 8 more million than Mozgov? And the Turner and Bazemore contracts are crazy. Hard to spin my head around the money being thrown around. Almost like NFL free agency with a bunch of mid level players getting cash thrown their way. Difference is the NFL contracts arent 100 percent guaranteed.
NBA pay structure is out of whack. Max salaries need to be raised so the superstars can earn closer to what they are worth while these mid level players arent paid like stars. Last edited by jbergey22 : 07-02-2016 at 01:55 AM. |

I am surprised how much I am not surprised by these contract numbers. I think I knew coming in that I would have no feel for what would be an appropriate dollar value for any player this year. This is the first year I really have spent more time looking at the salary floor than the cap.
My only reaction is I really feel bad for the Dirks of the NBA. Yes, he has made tons of money and yes it is all about the timing of this and next year's free agent classes. But damn, all that BS praise about taking less money for the benefit of the team seem pretty hollow now when you see players that he(Dirk) might still be better than in 2016 making two or three times as much money as he will.
