6.9 - Best Gunshot Death - Indiana Jones shoots the man with the sword, Raiders of the Lost Ark

I'm stunned this one was still available. This definitely could have gone in the first round. And this is why I'm thankful that the rule only applies to a single voter. It would have been a travesty to have the ToD pick take all of the Indy scenes out of play.

I'd comment on whether this pick is good, except I fell asleep in this god awful movie.

It is the 2nd most boring movie I've ever watched (with Seven Years in Tibet being #1).

7.4 - Best Heroic Death - The Terminator, T2:Judgment Day

YouTube - Terminator 2 ending scene
I tried to find an embeddable version, but there were none to be found.

The Terminator, after destroying the T1000, realizes that he too must be destroyed to prevent the creation of SkyNet. Since he cannot "self terminate", Sarah Connor must lower him into the molten metal.

That's probably better than some of the alledged awesomeness of Schmidty's picks. But then again, we are judging the death scenes...not the whole movie.

I haven't exactly praised Schmidty's picks ..

I don't think you can COMPLETELY separate the scene from the movie unless it is THAT stand-out...

Voters will have to decide that one...

I think you have to take the picks in context. Most of the deaths aren't that interesting if you don't know the story.

I contemplated using the Dead Man Walking execution, but passed on it for the very reason that you're getting flak for it. I loved the movie but it's really over the top political...not a surprise that Susan Sarandon had a starring role. This was Sean Penn's first oscar worthy role IMO.

The Citizen Kane pick was a great one, which I also contemplated but to be honest I couldn't remember if he died in the end or not.

OK. I don't love this pick. I have other ones I would like to make, but I am trying not to duplicate a franchise picked by others. I still think it's fantastic, but I don't know if it will resonate with voters as much as some "duplicate" choices.

Good pick, LS. I remember watching it for the first time. I thought it was pretty scary.

Larry, nice pick with John Doe. I didn't even think about him. Good one, though.

Thanks. The Ring is the only horror movie I have seen (which isn't a large sample size, honestly) that really freaked me out.

7.9 - Best Death in a Drama - Bill the Butcher - Gangs of New York

The clip is long, as the gang battle between the Natives and the Dead Rabbits, and the individual battle between Bill "The Butcher" Cutting(daniel day lewis) and Amsterdam Vallon (Leo DiCaprio) are overshadowed by the beginning of the New York Draft Riots.

One of my favorite movies, and Lewis' performance as Bill The Butcher is probably my favorite individual performance in a film ever.

The actual death starts around 7:45 in the clip.

With their 7th pick in the draft...

7.10 Best Death in a Horror Film - Brundlefly

Because the only time this scene appears on the internet it's for some reason dubbed in Spanish...I'll just post a picture.

7.11 Best Death In A Television Show - The Peacock Family kills the Sheriff and his wife, X-Files

It's from an episode entitled "Home". I remember watching an X-Files marathon on FX one night a long time ago. They were going in chronological order, but had to skip "Home" and save it for a later time slot, as it was considered to gory/frightening for primetime viewing.

I definitely remember it scaring me, and this scene in particular is harrowing (skip to the 1:50 mark):

Karl - I was about to lambast you for picking some random episode of the X-Files. However, I wiki'd the episode (to look for the name of the Sheriff and his wife for the spreadsheet) and now I realize which episode this is. I was not an X-Files crazy person, but I did watch every episode for quite a few seasons. This one I remember more than any other -- the only other one that really stands out in my mind is the life-size-humanoid-worm-thing episode.
