Drew Brees looked as bad yesterday as I have ever seen him. Also had a pretty pedestrian week one (despite good numbers). Hope he can fix it going forward.

Not sure why you put legal in quotes. It's dirty and probably will be illegal soon enough, but even Harbaugh said it was completely legal under the current rules.

Broncos 16-0? Let's slow that roll a little bit guys.

Because for the reasons you described, it's stupid that it's legal.

Dalton looks a little jittery, thrown 3 balls high.

I think I say this weekly, but I understand less every week.

Absolutely a fumble. But the whistle blew. I don't understand how they retroactively determine what would happen had the whistle not blown. My spidey sense says Jones would subsequently fumble, Steelers recover and return for a TD, so why not call that too?

Or why stop there, review for penalties. If it's "clear" Jones would recover that ball, plenty of "clear" penalties shown in replay.

Andy at 79% accuracy in Week 1. If he gets to 55% tonight it'd be a surprise.

I believe they spot the ball where the fumble was recovered.

But it was not originally called a fumble. Called catch and down. Whistle blew.

It got reviewed into a fumble. Which I don't get.

Yes clearly a fumble, but how many times have we seen a pass called incomplete fwd pass, only to see on review it is a lateral? Wasn't there an infamous Hochuli botched call in a Chargers game a few years back?

That's the exact play that led to this rule being changed. Refs make big mistakes sometimes. The way the rule was previously written, if a whistle blew even inadvertently, the play couldn't be challenged even if the defending team clearly recovered the ball. This change allowed for reasonable judgment to come into play and it has made the game significantly better.

Do these refs think it's 1995 again? In two drives they haven't blown the whistle for a good 3 seconds in the grasp leading to Ben getting his facemask ripped off (and no call), didn't whistle Dalton down and then Dalton gets slammed into the turf and no call.

Not particularly complaining, but this crew must really hate QB's or something.

Didn't take Revis long to become a malcontent

Darrelle Revis of Tampa Bay Buccaneers unhappy with coach Greg Schiano, according to reports - ESPN

The guy is great, but between injury, holding out, and being a distraction I'm not sure he is worth the trouble.

I'd say he isn't. I've gone from wishing Cinci had drafted him when he came out to feeling good about having Leon Hall instead.

Ya, I understand why they do it, but it's kind of strange, and potentially dangerous. It's the one situation in football, and maybe all of sports, where you have to keep playing after you hear a whistle. Like if the ball is blown dead, the whistle blows, but the ball is still bouncing around, you need to get on it, or block other guys out of the way so your teammates can get on it.

Can someone explain to me the new NFL rule forbidding throwback helmets (e.g., not allowing the Bucs to go with the pirate)? It's not like they're dusting off 1980s model helmets. They can take the new helmet designs and make it the right color and logo, can they not?

I can't explain it as it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but apparently the NFL now has a rule mandating that a team must wear the same helmet color and logo all season. I guess they don't want a team pulling an Oregon. But it seems like another one of those, "We are the NFL and we will control our product to as great a degree as possible whether it makes sense or not" kinds of things.

This has to have something to do with what logos and colors corporate sponsors want their brands attached to. They likely figure we're too stupid to realize "Pat the Patriot" is a Patriots logo.

The player safety angle makes absolutely no sense.

I think 136.6 decibels is dangerous no matter who you are.

Dangerous Decibels » How Loud is Too Loud?

I wonder if the teams will get sued for this down the road. A gunshot is 140 - imagine that sound over a sustained period.

Yeah, I'm the same way. Not sure what the hell causes it, but it's like a bad radio signal in one ear. I'm guessing a screwed-up eardrum.

I think Peyton Manning could make it work with 5 street free agents blocking for him. Clady is a big loss, but I don't think it'll have much of an effect. I just don't see Manning needing to take that long in the pocket to be effective. If anything, I think this just further entrenches Moreno in the starting role at RB.

As a Jets fan it was tough to see him go. But I definitely don't miss him bitching about his contract or complaining about the defensive schemes. I felt the Jets gave him just about everything he could get.... He played man to man. They promoted him up as Revis Island. He held out in 2007 as a rookie. They gave him a 4 year, $46M contract in 2010 after he held out, and then he threatened to hold out again in 2012.

The Bucs signed him to a 6 year, $96M contract with no guaranteed money. I wonder how long before Revis holds out again looking to have at least part of that contract converted into guaranteed money.

Not sure about that. If any QB needs a decent line I'd have thought it would be the immobile one with the surgically repaired neck. He can still get hit a lot on plays where he still is able to get rid of the ball.

They have a solid shot at 16-0 given their schedule. Not a lot of tough games on there. Even without Clady. In real terms, the guy behind Clady would have to be flat out TERRIBLE for it to hurt the Broncos much. They haven't really missed Miller or Bailey too much, and even if their new LT gives up an extra pressure and sack each game, that isn't too big of an effect on a team with as much passing game talent as the Broncos.

Of course if Peyton does get hurt, they probably drop like a rock. I agree there is added risk of this with Clady being hurt, but I still think the overall effect will be negligible as long as that doesn't occur.
