That may have been beyond stupid. I guess it's first down at the 1 for the Eagles then as the whistle blew so it's like the Broncos game then.

It was all over slow-mo replays of run up the middle after run up the middle by most teams I was watching. It was borderline absurd: apparently you have to tackle the guy to get the call (which one of the Panthers did), although of course I saw one Chicago O-lineman do the same thing with no call on a big play. But really, it's like they just go "hey wait, it's been 15 plays since I called a hold, FLAG!".

That is something I hear each week. "They are grabbing outside the body". For it to be holding the defensive player has to make an attempt to get to the ball. If he is just getting driven backwards or makes no effort to get off the block, holding will never be called.

Still Philly's ball so it's not a complete disaster. Very stupid though.

Hmm, I seem to recall your boy Plaxico doing that back in his early days with Steelers ...

That said, the Dallas players blew a chance by not jumping on it.

At least this is an entertaining game. After last night's clunker, we deserve it.

See the game last night between the Chargers/Broncos where Hoculli blew the whistle.

Because no one recovered it and the play was blown dead. Since the Eagles were the last to have possession, they get it back. If a Dallas player had jumped on it right away, they would have gotten it.

Would you put this in the same class? The Jackson play was very close call. But did the whistle blow right away, or did the ref wait a few seconds before blowing it while the ball was out?

Doesn't matter, scored anyway.

This isn't the Soul and Renagades of the Arena League is it?
48 points and still in the first half.

not exactly true.

Plax caught a ball diving and thought he was automatcaly down and got up and threw it away.

Nope, because now I remember, when a touchdown is signalled, that is the same as blowing the play dead. So the spot rule goes into effect.

There are a lot of moves tha can take that title...

Leon Lett times two anyone?

Plaxico Burress with his catch in the open field and then spiking the ball before being down also ties in.

The Vikings defender who picked up the fumble and ran it into the wrong end zone gives it a run for it's money.

They changed the rules this year for fumbles on reviews (which is one of the reasons the call in yesterday's Denver-San Diego game was so controversial). On plays where there's a fumble and the play is blown dead, if a player on the defense recovers it right away, they get the ball even though the play was whistled dead.

The change didn't cover QBs with the open palm, which is why Cutler's fumble couldn't have been given to San Diego.

EDIT: Or maybe not. Maybe they didn't think of this when they changed the review rules because most of what I'm finding is saying they changed the review rules for "down-by-contact", and even if the whistle blew, if its obvious the defense would come up with the ball, the ball could be awarded to them. That change might not cover the "bonehead-drops-ball-before-TD" situation.

I don't like that they have settled for 3 field goals. That could come back to bite them.

Hey, just saw the Mets lost tonight. Hopefully this will become an overall great night.

If Dawkins had tried to tackle Whittne instead of trying to strip the ball out he may have been tackled about 5 yards earlier.

On another note, what is Berman talking about for the Broncos game? "Was it a fumble? Was it an interception?" The only thing I could have told you with complete confidence is that it was not an interception.

On another note, what is the big freaking deal about the Broncos going for two and the win yesterday? With the way that game was going it would have most likely come down to who-ever wins the coin flip so why not let your team decide it then and there.

This is one of those games where the Defensive Coordinators throw out their carefully crafted games plans at halftime and say "Whatever, just go out there and tackle guys in the 2nd half. I don't have a clue on how to stop the other team."

I'm behind catching up on the DVR, but as I watch early in the 2nd, this has been a wild game.

Fuckin' defense needs to step up and do something. And that includes learning how to take down McNabb. You would think after all these years of his breaking tackles they would have learned by now...
