Interestingly, they still rank last in D. Rebounding, but that's because of a slow pace as their Rebound % is best in conference. Their only slip up is a 1 pt loss on the road. Code:

More inconsistency from the Cardinals. They beat a ranked team and then lose by 35 against an unranked team. Andres (15.5 ppg) and Baum (14.5 ppg) are leading the way. Code:

Despite losing leading scorer Scott Marshall (14.0 ppg), who will be out for another month, it's a pretty good month for the Panthers. They capped it off with a dominating win to open conference play. Code:

By the way, the reason the monthly updates show opponents final record is because I've already simmed ahead. I just noticed that now.

The Hawks only lost once over the past two months, a 2 pt defeat against Albany, the only team that seems to know how to play defense against them. Otherwise, the Hawks offense continued to roll, with 8 more triple digit games, including an insane 125 pt performance against Maine, where 8 players hit double digits. Code:

Look at that breakthrough! After a terrible start in conference play, the Vikings won 11 of their next 13 games to finish 2nd in conference. They will need to win the conference tourney to make it back to the dance. Charles Price is 2nd in the nation in minutes per game and Jonathan Wilson is 22nd. Code:

The Bucs only lost one game in January and February, a rare non-conference game late in the season against a good South Alabama squad. The defense is even better this season, allowing an insanely low 36.4 ppg Code:

The Cardinals finally found some consistency as they won 16 of 18 games to take the regular season conference title and make themselves a likely at large selection. They will have to continue without 2nd leading scorer Nazario Andres, who will be out for a year. Code:

What a turnaround! The Panthers just absolutely steamroll the SWAC, winning the regular season title behind a terrific defense and 4 players averaging double digit ppg. C Gerald Martinez has 3.7 bpg. Code:

1st Round: (1) Hartford 95, (8) Vermont 67 The Hawks shoot .694 from the field and win the rebounding battle 34-19 as they easily dismantle Vermont. Wallace Nelson and Cody Braxton combined for 34 pts. 2nd Round: (1) Hartford 87, (5) New Hampshire 53 Another dominating victory by the Hawks, led by Nelson (19 pts) and Henriquez (17 pts), each of whom also added 5 assists. Hartford's D forced 21 turnovers. Championship: (1) Hartford 98, (2) Albany 64 There was some concern here, as Albany had beat the Hawks in the regular season and came within 1 pt of beating them twice. However, Hartford wastes no time building up a big lead and coasting to victory. Albany never got within single digits in the 2nd half. 5 Hawks scored in double digits.

1st Round: (1) Kennesaw State 78, (8) North Florida 62 The Owls dominance on the boards (53-29 edge) is the difference here, as UNF actually shot better, but took 12 fewer shots. PF Curry came up huge with 15 pts, 13 rebounds. Semifinals: (1) Kennesaw State 85, (4) Stetson 69 Rebounds and turnovers are the story. The Owls only hit 9 3-pointers and Stetson shoots .571 from the field. However, the Owls take 18 more shots thanks to a 36-22 rebound edge and 20 turnovers committed by Stetson. Conference Championship: (1) Kennesaw State 106, (7) Florida Gulf Coast 73 McCaslin erupts for 32 pts, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists as the Owls take a 10 pt halftime lead and outscore FGCU 62-39 in the 2nd half. They hit 16 3-pointers in this one.

Big Sky Tournament
2nd Round: (2) Portland State 61, (7) Weber State 55 Last year's tourney hero Charles Price plays 37 minutes in this one and comes away with 24 pts to lead the Vikings to a 2nd half comeback. Portland State only had 6 turnovers for the whole game. Semifinals: (6) Eastern Washington 67, (2) Portland State 60 Price comes up big again with 23 pts and Jonathan Wilson adds 13 pts and 15 rebounds. Unfortunately, no one else showed up for the Vikings. The rest of the team was 10 for 36 from the field and the Vikings couldn't stop an efficient Eastern Washington offense.

Big South Tournament
2nd Round: (1) Charleston Southern vs. (9) Campbell Not only did the Bucs dominate defensively as usual, they had a surprisingly efficient offensive performance (.595 from the field, .455 from range). Campbell was held scoreless for almost 9 minutes to open the 2nd half. Semifinals: (1) Charleston Southern 45, (5) Coastal Carolina 33 Coastal is held to 9 points in the 1st half. The final score isn't even a good indicator of how the game went, as Coastal never got within single digits through the 2nd half. Big men Brown and Evans combined for 22 pts. Conference championship: (1) Charleston Southern 61, (2) Longwood 41 C Jared Brown has a career high 20 pts as the Bucs complete a thorough dismantling of the Big South. They went 21-0 against conference opponents and most games weren't close.

Semifinals: (4) Northwestern State 77, (1) Lamar 63 Lamar lays another egg in the conference tourney. Only C Odis Phelan (15 pts) shows up. The other starters combined to shoot 9 for 28. The solace is the Cards were good enough this season to almost certainly earn an at large bid,

2nd Round: (1) Prairie View A&M 59, (9) Alabama A&M 51 The Panthers have excelled at blocks this season, but the difference maker here was getting to the free throw line. PG Jeffrey Keith gets 15 pts on 13-14 FT shooting and the Panthers pull away early in the 2nd half. Semifinals: (1) Prairie View A&M 73, (4) AR Pine Bluff 62 The Panthers defense is key in this one, forcing 19 turnovers and holding Pine Bluff to 22 pts in the 2nd half. Keith and Freitas both get 16 pts to lead the way. Conference Championship: (1) Prairie View A&M 70, (2) Alcorn State 60 C Gerald Martinez does everything in this one - 10 pts, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 7 blocks - to lead the Panthers to their 1st tourney berth! SG Scott Marshall missed a lot of time this season, but was healthy enough here to score 21 pts.

Prairie View A&M is selected as a 14 seed. Kennesaw State is selected as a 5 seed. Hartford is selected as an 8 seed. Lamar does get an at large bid as a 10 seed. Portland State is selected for the CBI Tourney as a 15 seed.

Lamar is definitely the meme team of this universe. What a waste every year.
And man, Charleston Southern is so ugly to watch, but can't argue their success.

West Region (5) Charleston Southern vs. (12) Belmont Belmont shot very well against the Bucs, going .484 from the field and taking a 25-22 halftime lead. They led 38-37 with 9:11 left, but the Bucs forced several turnovers and got decent offense from SG Gregory Grillo (13 pts) to slowly pull away. The Bucs make the 2nd round for the 3rd time. Code:

NCAA Tourney - 1st Round
Midwest Region (14) Prairie View A&M vs. (3) Missouri It was a close game most of the way and the Panthers have SF Herman Freitas to thank for that. He had a massive game with 27 pts, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks. The Panthers began to pull away in the 2nd half on the strength of a solid defense that held the Tigers to .354 from the field. Furthermore, they got to the line 39 times to the Tigers 18. This kept Missouri fighting from behind for the whole 2nd half and they were unable to close the gap. The Panthers advance! Code:

South Region (5) Kennesaw State vs. (12) NC State The Wolfpack come out determined to limit Kennesaw State's offense, and they do that wonderfully by holding the Owls to their lowest point total of the season. The Owls only hit 6 of 28 free throws. Their rebounding edge and surprisingly strong defensive play keeps them in it. This one comes down to the wire... Code:

East Region (8) Hartford vs. (9) Charlotte The best offense in the nation comes to the NCAA tourney and doesn't let down, shooting .521 from the field and hitting 15 3-pointers. However, Charlotte is able to match them very well, as their star SG Christner puts up 25 pts. With 12:43 left, the Hawks have a 67-65 lead. They score on their next three possessions to key a 12-2 run that put the game away for good. Charlotte was unable to close the gap until the final minute, when it was too late. Code:

East Region (10) Lamar vs. (7) Boise State Lamar struggles on defense in this one, allowing Boise State to shoot .544 from the field. But hustling on the boards keeps them in it. With 11 seconds left, Lamar's C Odis Phelan shoots a 3-pointers to tie it and send the game into OT. With 1:42 left, Lamar tied the game on three free throws from SG Phil Baum. Unfortunately, Lamar misses their next 4 shots and fail to score the rest of the game as Charlotte takes the victory. Code:

West Region (5) Charleston Southern vs. (4) Miami A very efficient performance from the Bucs. They slowly build a 7 pt halftime lead. That lead is 33-26 with 12:51 left, but Miami would get no closer. The Canes would only score 2 pts over the next 5 minutes, by which time Charleston Southern had a 49-28 lead. Midwest Region (14) Prairie View A&M vs. (6) Iowa The Panthers strong inside presence completely flummoxes Iowa, who normally relies on strong play from their C and PF. Panthers big men Martinez and Bolden each get 9 blocks in this contest as they hold Iowa's big men to 8 for 37 from the field! However, Iowa stays in it partly due to relying on an outside game, going 7 of 17 from range. The Panthers tie the game with 5 seconds left on a 3 pointer. In OT, Freitas hits the winning free throw with no time left to send the Panthers to the Sweet 16!!! Code:

South Region (5) Kennesaw State vs. (4) Texas Star SG Erick Greenwald was injuried during the conference tournay and hadn't returned as of yet. McCaslin tries to step up by scoring 24 pts and Bradbury adds 16, but the loss of Greenwald is felt as the Owls fall behind by 16 in the 1st half. The Owls are able to push back and bring it within 5 with 7:42 left, but an efficient Texas offense (.517 shooting) prevents them from getting any closer. Code:

East Region (8) Hartford vs. (1) Duke Duke kinda got screwed here, because there's no way Hartford should be only an 8 seed. The Hawks offense has one of its best games of the season, shooting .587 from the field and 13 of 26 from 3-point land. The Blue Devils match that pace for the 1st half, but a 14-2 run midway through the 2nd half puts Hartford up for good. Duke is unable to comeback when they can't stop the opponent from scoring. The Hawks make it three FOFC teams in the Sweet 16. Code:

West Region (5) Charleston Southern vs. (1) Kansas At the beginning, it looked like another dominating Bucs victory. They held a great Jayhawks squad to 17 pts in the 1st half. However, the Bucs suffer an almost 10 minute scoring drought. Kansas takes advantage to pull slightly ahead. The rest of the game is pretty close, but the Jayhawks execute better down the stretch and come away with the victory. Code:

Midwest Region (14) Prairie View A&M vs. (2) Baylor Throughout this season, Baylor has relied on PF Randal Armitage, a 3rd team All-American and Big 12 Player of the Year. In this game, he would take 25 shots, but only made 4 of them. The Panthers defense just completely shut him down. This one isn't even really as close as the score shows. The Panthers just took it to them, never allowing Baylor to get closer than 10 pts in the 2nd half. They advance to the Elite 8!!! Code:

(8) Hartford vs. (12) Georgia Hartford is given a gift by facing a 12 seed in the 3rd round. However, UGA takes advantage of the Hawks defense, running up 72 pts in the 1st half! Hartford fights back behind Henriquez's 41 points and this is a tight one in the 2nd half. With 5:35 left, Hartford leads 103-101. Georgia's offense stumbles at this point and Hartford goes on an 11-3 run to take a double digit lead inside of 2 minutes. Too late for a UGA comeback and the Hawks join the Panthers in the Elite 8! Midwest Region (14) Prairie View A&M vs. (1) Wisconsin The Panthers dream season comes to a brutal end. This is the 1st time we've had multiple teams unlock a skill in the same season. A reminder of the rule (from post #13) that determines the order...
1) Head to head matchups that season 2) Who made it the furthest round 3) Who had the better seed in the tournament 4) Overall record So order of preference goes to: David Corperial - Hartford rjolley - Prairie View A&M law90026 - Kennesaw State Go ahead and make your picks. Remaining skills are: Free Throw Shot Handling Fouling Strength Jumping 3 Point Frequency
