Are great defensive players noticeable this year? In the past, it was hard for me to tell a great defensive player from a medicore one as the ratings to me, didn't translate well on to the field.

Is this year any different? Can say, Jim Edmonds get to more pop flies when you have him in the OF then say, putting Taguchi in CF?

I guess what I'm trying to say is, can you tell when you are playing a great defensive team vs a not so great defensive team? Is it plausable to put Taguchi in LF and sit Duncan late in a game?

How come a transaction like the one below does not show up in the player's history on his player card?

Can you separate a player's history? I would like contracts in one area, awards in another area, not all under the one, "Player History" heading.

Basically I would like for them to be grouped like FOF 2007.

Forgive me, but I don't remeber much from the new interface last year. If I want to see when McGwire won the MVP, I don't want to read every line looking for it - I want it to be under "Awards" on his player card.

Can this be done from within the game?

Looks like a lot of the same transactions are doubled under the same day for whatever reason. Guys getting activated or placed on the DL and things like that show up twice on the same day.

A lot of the historical stuff was from previous (buggy) builds. Newer data should not suffer from the problems

We discussed this briefly, but I decided against this because the player history is about accomplishments mostly and very big transactions (FA signings, trades).

Yes, you'll notice this. Your team pitching BABIP will be lower, thus less runs will be scored because your defenders take away more hits

Is there a reason why the "Top Game Performances" page located at http://reports.ootpdevfiles.com/news...formances.html
is wrong? It shows performances and links, the numbers for all the stats are wrong (for the first 3 at least). In fact #2 and #3 didn't even play those days.

Looks like there are ones wrong for the hitting too.

Re: the expansion draft

Is the date of the expansion draft customizable in a multi-year sim? From what I've gathered, the default expansion draft date is mid-November. However, in OOTP free agents aren't really 'free' until after this date (sometime early the next calendar year IIRC). Therefore, you have players who are technically free agents, but are still part of their former team's organization and still have to be protected.

IRL, free agent contracts expire before an expansion draft, so their status in the draft is not an issue. Thus my question of customizable draft dates in a quick-sim.

This could be a problem. OOTP should mirror real life in this case.

Well, I don't have dual core but I just dropped a gig of RAM in my dual channel.
I was in the preview group, wish I'd have had the new RAM then. The game did run nice though with just 1 gig so 2 should just be adding gravy.

For now I'll have to test it out on EHM.

I love the sim speeds. I finished a few seasons with fairly large almanacs in just a few hours. I have to figure out how to save history, but not every boxscore, just the current season ones. I made an upload for my league and somehow included every boxscore for 5 seasons. Was a big file!

We've got a rather special treat for ANYONE who decides to pre-order the game before Wednesday night.

We are going to be mailing out download details to everyone who has pre-ordered before the clocks strikes 1 on Thursday morning.
If you have not yet made that purchase, first check out this fan made video and then if you like it why not place your pre-order

First thing I'm going to do is to expand the American League with current rosters to 16 teams and take over one of the expansion teams. The question is, how are the cities and the characteristics (owner, budget, etc) determined? It will be fun to do an expansion draft with that team. I have been waiting for a text sim to have this option for quite some time. The last one I can recall is FOF2.

If you run a historical replay but with fictional players, how does the computer handle player names? Do you get names that are era appropriate? It would detract from the overall immersion of the game to have Chico Escuela and Chan Ho-Park playing for you in 1901.

Friday? Sweet! That means I get to mess around with it all weekend. I feared it was released next week and I'd be bogged down with moving to my new place to really get into it. But alas, that's not going to be the case this time.

I was going back through the blogs posted on the OOTP forums and I have to say the one posted today probably has me the most excited about the game.

hxxp://www.ootpbaseball.net/clubhouse.php?view=news&gid=26&id=1304

Here's a quote from it:

Quote:
In the end, everyone from Bill James to Baseball Prospectus seems to come to the conclusion the players peak at about age 27 (give or take a year), with pitchers maybe a year later. But, of course, it's more complex than that. Baseball skills don't develop or erode at the same pace. Walks are an "old player skill," for example, while triples a "young player skill." Previous versions of the game, however, had every skill rising and falling in a standard umbrella pattern. OOTPv2007 is different. For the first time, it is modeling each skill as a separate component.

Granted, I don't expect perfect aging, but this is a HUGE step forward for the OOTP series.

No, I saw that one. After I play a season, I print out the Roster Report that has my roster with their major stats, plus a team summary up on top with the large logo. I don't have any saved games so I can't show you what I mean.

I know what you're talking about. I used to post that in my dynasty reports. I don't think there's an exact replica of it, but I'll show you a screen that is somewhat similar in the next post...

Breaking News
Friday, October 19th, 2057: Walsh Hashes Out $4,240,000 Contract with Atlanta
The latest news from the SION reporters following the Atlanta Braves is that an agreement has been reached with Paul Walsh to continue as their reliever for another 2 years.

In his career Walsh has appeared in 396 games and earned 22 saves with 284 Ks in 481.2 innings. He has a record of 24 wins and 23 losses and a 4.09 ERA.
Wednesday, October 10th, 2057: Boston Red Sox Sweep World Series
It was a glorious moment at Red Sox Ballpark when Boston claimed the 2057 World Series title with a 5-1 victory. Boston players were jubilant as they swamped each other on the diamond after completing the fantastic sweep of the Atlanta Braves.

Chants of "Thank you, Red Sox," reverberated all around the ballpark when it was over.

But in the losing dugout, sadness reigned. Commenting to reporters, the Braves skipper related what it's like to lose, "Your heart is heavy...you are hurting...it's a very difficult time. And to be swept...it's embarrassing. You just want to forget it ever happened."

But it was a season to remember for the Boston Red Sox. Their season record was 98-64 and good enough for first place in the American League Eastern Division. Then they topped it off by winning the World Series 4-0. What a year!
Thursday, September 20th, 2057: Atlanta Loses Dennis Chuffnell
The Atlanta Braves will have to "make do" without Dennis Chuffnell for 1-2 weeks. He suffered a dead arm syndrome while throwing a pitch in the game today against the St. Louis Cardinals. His teammates, understandably, were upset about losing the starting pitcher. "That's a real blow," one of them said. "But this team is resilient. We know how to deal with adversity." Chuffnell will miss 1-2 weeks.

In 28 starts this year Chuffnell has crafted a 13-7 record and a 3.90 ERA.
