After beating the #1 team in the nation, we gain a whole 1 spot in the polls, up to #10 overall. FSU Dropped to 8th.

Recruiting

4* QB Michael Keller has signed with NC State!

5* DE Will Mayo has soft committed to NC State.

4* C Antoine Jolley ended up committing to Michigan, we had long given up on him.

So far we've landed 3 5-star players and 1 4-star player. We still have 13 guys on our recruiting board. 10 of those 13 list us #1.

Week 11 Game

Boston college (2-6, 1-5 ACC) at #10 NC State (7-1, 4-1 ACC)

BC is rated 72 overall and we are heavily favored here. Carter is probable today and will start.

1st: 17-3 NCSU (7 passes, 6 runs)

Half: 26-10 NCSU (15 passes, 12 runs)

3rd: 33-13 NCSU (19 passes, 20 runs)

We score twice in the first 1:15 of the 4th quarter(69 yard TD run by carter, INT by Harris returned to the 30, score 3 plays later). We go up 47-13 and supersim it out.

Wilson: 13-21, 236 yards, 2 TD/0 INT
Carter: 23 carries, 227 yards, 3 TD
Torrey: 4 rec, 50 yards, 3 TD
K Williams: 2 rec, 106 yards, 1 TD

Richard Wilson and kyle Williams set a new NCSU Record today for the longest pass play in school history, a 90 yard TD pass in the 2nd quarter.

Since its actually relevant for the first time ever, lets check out the BCS Standings:

Week 12 BCS Standings

1. Notre Dame (8-0)
2. Tennessee (10-0)
3. Oklahoma (10-0)
4. Wisconsin (8-0)
5. Washington (9-0)
6. TCU (9-0)
7. Alabama (8-1)
8. USC (8-1)
9. NC State (8-1)
10. Florida State (9-1)
11. Texas (7-2)
12. Southern Miss (9-0)
13. Michigan (8-1)
14. Florida (8-2)
15. Akron (9-0)

Florida State beat Clemson last week. I assume if we both end up with only one loss, I will win the Atlantic Division by virtue of the head to head matchup and will play for the ACC Championship?

If we hadn't completely fallen apart during the North Carolina game, we'd actually be talking about national titles right now. *sigh*

Recruiting

5* JUCO WR Bryan Holley commits to NC State! Holley is a posession receiver, the #3 WR and #22 ranked player in the nation.

We get another soft commit this week, FS David Ball.

I just noticed something about 4* G Jason Callahan. He soft committed to UVA 3 weeks ago, we've been working hard on him, and he is still soft committed to UVA. The thing that I noticed? UVA has not offered him a scholarship... that's a new one to me.

Two of the CB's we're going after, Newton and Walker, visited UNC last week. Both of them moved UNC to #1 on their lists and us to #2. We'll be working hard to get them back as well.

I don't want to read too much into it yet, but, Florida State has not landed a single recruit so far.

Week 12 Game

#10 NC State (8-1, 5-1 ACC) at Miami (6-4, 4-3 ACC)

Our final two ACC games are both on the road, this one and Maryland. This is the biggest challenge we have left. Both Lee and Kirk are picking us.

Miami is rated 77 OVR, 83 O/76 D

1st: 0-0 (6 passes, 10 runs) - oops, missed by 1. Throwing away my first pass of the 2nd quarter.

2nd: 14-3 NCSU (13 passes, 17 runs)

3rd: 21-6 NCSU (17 passes, 25 runs)

Miami gets the ball with 4 minutes to go, and puts together their best drive of the day, but it takes forever, they score a TD and get the 2 point conversion, but there's only 1:30 left on the clock. We recover the onside kick and get a first down to seal the win.

Wilson: 14-20, 152 yards, 0 TD/1 INT
Carter: 26 carries, 158 yards, 3 TD
Brown: 4 rec, 28 yards

Also, on defense, Eric Harris made a key interception in the 3rd quarter as Miami was driving, only down 11. He's gotten INT's in 3 straight games, now, and has 6 picks on the season. The single season record is 8 for the Wolfpack.

Recruiting

We land another 5* commit this week, 5* DE Will Mayo will be coming to Raleigh next year! Mayo is the #4 DE in the country, and #41 player overall.

There are no other changes this week, leaving us with 1 soft commit still in FS David Ball, and G Callahan still soft committed to UVA.

Week 13 Game

#10 NC State (9-1, 6-1 ACC) at Maryland (5-5, 3-4 ACC)

This is to close out a 1 loss ACC season. We have a cupcake at home next week to finish the schedule off entirely. Maryland is rated 69 overall and we expect to win this game with ease, even on the road.

1st: 10-0 NCSU (10 passes, 6 runs)

We go up 24-0 in the 2nd and I supersim the rest of the way.

Wilson: 18-24, 189 yards, 2 TD/2 INT
Carter: 19 carries, 192 yards, 2 TD
Wilson: 5 rec, 39 yards

With our win over Maryland, NC State has clinched the ACC Atlantic Division!!! We're going to be playing Georgia Tech for the right to represent the ACC in the BCS!!!!

Ga Tech beat Virginia in overtime last week in a game that decided the coastal(UVA wins the division if they win that game).

Our current bowl projection would have us playing the lowest ranked BCS team, Big East leading Rutgers(ranked #24).

Akron, Southern Miss, and TCU are all also projected for BCS games as at large teams.

National Title Picture

From NC State's perspective, there is good news, and bad news. The good news is that we are the highest rated 1 loss team in the nation. The bad news is that there are 8 unbeaten teams still left.

The BCS top 10:

1. Notre Dame (10-0)
2. Tennessee (12-0)
3. Oklahoma (11-0)
4. Wisconsin (10-0)
5. Washington (10-0)
6. TCU (11-0)
7. Southern Miss (11-0)
8. NC State (10-1)
9. Akron (11-0)
10. Florida State (10-1)

Recruiting

The recruits keep trickling in, one at a time. We get our last 5* recruit of the year, FS David Ball. Ball is the #2 Free Safety in the country, and #31 player overall.

We do lose another recruit, 4* CB Richard Newton has snubbed both UNC and NCSU, and instead will be attending Ole Miss.

2* K Reynolds has soft committed to Southern Miss. Seriously, we might as well just use walkons at kicker and not waste our recruiting hours. *sigh*

I add a 2* C to my list. I should have had a 3* backup on there the whole time, I have a major need at that position as I'm graduating a senior and only have one other guy on the roster.

Week 13 Game

San Jose State (5-6) at #10 NC State (10-1)

Our final game before the ACC Championship game.

SJSU is bad, 58 overall.

i play 3 minutes, score 3 touchdowns, and turn on supersim. I debated playing it out to see if i could get a 500 yard rushing day by AJ Carter(you read that right, 500), but decided against it. Carter had 175 yards and 3 TDs 3 minutes into the game when I turned on the sim.

Wilson: 9-14, 116 yards, 2 TD/0 INT
Atkins: 12-26, 181 yards, 1 TD/2 INT
Carter: 28 carries, 300 yards, 4 TD
Bullock: 25 carries, 101 yards, 2 TD
Christensen: 5 rec, 85 yards

We bump up 1 spot over Southern Miss in the BCS Rankings this week, but no one lost any games.

Our projected bowl vs Rutgers remains the same. Of course, we better take care of business in the ACC Title game before I worry about that.

Previously undefeated Washington loses to unranked(and horrible) Florida International, shaking up things... none. Washington has already clinched the Pac 10, and this changes the bowl projections in no way.

Lots of shaking can happen in conference championship week though, including with a couple of our at large teams.

Akron plays Central Michigan for the MAC title, while undefeated Southern Miss plays Tulane for the Conference USA title.

In the major conference games, Tennessee plays Alabama, Oklahoma plays Colorado, and NC State plays Georgia Tech.

In all of these games but the SEC title, we're looking at a top 10 team vs an unranked team. In the SEC, Tennessee is #2, playing for a shot at Notre Dame and the national title, while Alabama is #16.

ACC Championship

Georgia Tech (9-3, 6-2 ACC) vs #8 NC State (11-1, 7-1 ACC)

Lee and Kirk both favor the Wolfpack.

Our only loss was an early crushing blow at North Carolina. We've won 9 straight since then, including wins over Clemson and FSU. Georgia Tech started 6-0 before finishing 3-3, losing to Miami at home, at Clemson, and against Florida. Their biggest wins are vs Virginia and a Georgia.

Georgia Tech is rated 74 overall(77 O/73 D) compared to our 86 rating(88 O/85 D)

1st Quarter

GT: Punt
NCSU: Missed 37 yard FG
GT: INT, returned by John Scott 32 yards for TD (7-0 NCSU)

NCSU: 26 yard FG (17-3 NCSU)
GT: INT

GT: Missed 39 yard FG

HALFTIME: NC State 17, Georgia Tech 3 (14 passes, 13 runs)

At this point I do a mass substitution and then supersim(just in case the CPU will listen to my instructions).

Alabama's win over Tennessee does a couple things. It knocks Tennessee out of the national title game, and puts Oklahoma in. It also knocks Akron out of a BCS Bowl Bid, as Tennessee is still rated high enough to earn an at large.

#8 NC State (12-1) vs #23 Rutgers (11-1)

Our only loss was at North Carolina. We've had wins at Clemson and vs FSU this year in our biggest games. Rutgers only loss was to #10 Texas early in the year, 41-31. They have wins at Pitt(#25/10-2) and at West Virginia (9-3, #3 in the conference).

Both Lee and Kirk are picking us. Rutgers is rated 74 OVR, 79 O/71 D. Neither team has any injuries.

Looking through the depth charts, Rutgers has a talented SR QB(rated 92 OVR), but only one WR rated over 80 for him to throw to. Their O-line rates about the same as ours, players all rated in the low 80s. Their D-line is a weak spot, as is their secondary. Their LBs are very good.

1st Quarter

Rutgers: Punt (3 plays, 6:20 remaining)
NC State: Fumble (4 plays, 5:22 remaining)
Rutgers: Punt (3 plays, 4:36 remaining)
NC State: Carter 37 yard run (5 plays, 68 yards, 3:14 remaining) 7-0 NCSU
Rutgers: Missed 52 yard FG (8 plays, 1:49 remaining)
NC State: Punt (3 plays, 1:03 remaining)

1st: 7-0 NC State (4 passes, 8 runs) -- Oops, gotta throw two away.

2nd Quarter

Rutgers: HB Bonner 4 yard run (9 plays, 80 yards, 6:15 remaining) 7-7
NC State: Punt (3 plays, 5:42 remaining)
Rutgers: INT John Scott(in the end zone, whew) (3 plays, 4:51 remaining)
NC State: AJ Carter 80 yard run TD (1 play, 80 yards, 4:37 remaining) 14-7 NCSU
Rutgers: Punt (3 plays, 4:00 remaining)
NC State: Missed 45 yard FG (7 plays, 1:48 remaining)
Rutgers: Missed 51 yard FG (6 plays, 0:44 remaining)
NC State: Fumble, returned 22 yards for TD(1 play, 0:35 remaining) 14-14
NC State: Fumble (4 plays, 0:04 remaining)

HALF: 14-14 (14 passes, 14 runs)

We've fumbled 3 times in the first half. Once was Wilson on a sack, that was the one returned for a TD. The other two were hard hits on WR Tony Wilson causing him to cough up the ball after a catch.

3rd Quarter

NC State: Punt (3 plays, 6:22 remaining)
Rutgers: Punt (5 plays, 5:16 remaining)
NC State: Punt (4 plays, 4:15 remaining)
Rutgers: 26 yard TD Pass (10 plays, 90 yards, 1:45 remaining) 21-14 Rutgers
NC State: McPhee 9 yard Reception TD (5 plays, 8 yard, 0:34 remaining) 21-21

After 3: 21-21 (19 passes, 19 runs)

4th quarter

Rutgers: INT MLB Davis (on Rutgers 33 yard line - 6:57 remaining)
NC State: Carter 30 yard TD Run (2 plays, 33 yards, 6:33 remaining) 28-21 NCSU
Rutgers: 27 yard FG (8 plays, 4:48 remaining) 28-24 NCSU
NC State: INT (Rutgers ball at the NCSU 35, 4:15 remaining)
Rutgers: 33 yard FG (7 plays, 3:03 remaining) 28-27 NCSU
NC State: INT (Rutgers ball at the NCSU 30, 2:28 remaining) <-- TERRIBLE pass by me
Rutgers: INT MLB Davis in the end zone(on 3rd and goal from the 4) <-- WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO

AJ Carter gets two first downs for us in the final two minutes to kill the clock. WHEW, we turn it over FIVE times and still manage the win.

Wilson: 9-18, 104 yards, 1 TD/2 INT
Atkins: 1-3, 7 yards
Carter: 24 carries, 312 yards, 3 TD
T Wilson: 5 rec, 33 yards

AJ Carter broke 3 records in this game. He broke the school's single season rushing record, set by Jamelle Eugene in 2009. He scored his 25th TD on the season, breaking a record he set as a sophomore. And 312 yards breaks the single game rushing record, also set by Eugene in 2009.

School Records

QB Richard Wilson has a chance to break the school's career TD passing record of 70. Its likely assuming he ends up a 4 year starter.

AJ Carter IS the NC State rushing record book. He is not listed as the record holder for Rushing TD's in a game, but the record is 5, and I know he got that a couple times... just never broke it. Ties go to the original record holder apparently.

Every other record is held by carter:

Rushing TD (Career) - 79
Rushing TD (Season) - 25
Rushing Yards (Career) - 5252
Rushing Yards (Game) - 312
Rushing Yards (Season) - 1844

Remember, Carter only started for 3 years, and missed 7 games due to injury in his final two years. Supersim certainly has some to do with it, but its mainly the impact speed has in this game with this slider set. Just look at the Bowl game vs Rutgers this year. Rutgers had slow and bad D-Linemen, so CArter got by them pretty much every run. Their LB's were good, and he got stopped by them a few times, but if he breaks 1 tackle, he's up against slow, subpar corners and safetys, and if they catch him once he gets outside, its going to be after 30 yards.

I'm not going to do it yet, but, if I wanted to make this more of a challenge down the road, I suspect that the #1 way I could do it was a house rule preventing myself from recruiting "speed" RB's.

Players Leaving

Underclassmen(Starters in Bold)

CB Austin Rodgers, JR, 83 OVR, Pro Draft
MLB Brandon Davis, JR, 87 OVR, Pro Draft
FS Matt Wade, JR, 89 OVR, Pro Draft
DT Ken Wright, JR, 86 OVR, Pro Draft

Graduating Seniors

Offense

HB AJ Carter, 90 OVR
WR Ryan Brown, 89 OVR
WR Landon Fields, 87 OVR
C Trevor Carter, 92 OVR
WR Kyle Williams, 88 OVR
WR Scott Cole, 84 OVR
TE Josh Torrey, 77 OVR

DE Jeff Ostrander, 93 OVR
DE Jeffrey Washington, 90 OVR
DT Mike Anderson, 86 OVR
CB Eric Harris, 87 OVR
MLB Blake Leak, 85 OVR

K Mark Carter, 68 OVR

4 starters on offense, 4 on defense, and our kicker. Not bad really, though there are some problems. Carter was an all world runner, we're losing 3 of our 4 D-line starters, and our backup kicker is rated 40 overall. But we've got a lot of great talent coming back too.

Early Departure Resolution

CB Austin Rodgers, JR, 83 OVR, Pro Draft - After an hour, he tells me he is leaving anyway. LEAVING

MLB Brandon Davis, JR, 87 OVR, Pro Draft - STAYING

FS Matt Wade, JR, 89 OVR, Pro Draft - takes 2 hours, but its worth it given his talent. STAYING

DT Ken Wright, JR, 86 OVR, Pro Draft - I sure cant' afford to lose all 4 D-line starters. 3 is enough! STAYING

With the loss of CB Rodgers, that's 4 Offensive starters, 5 defensive starters, and our kicker.

Offseason Recruiting

Week 1
We have 9 commits, 7 guys left on the list. I go out visiting everyone that I can, but I do only have enough time to pitch one thing to each player.

Week 2

As usual, visits are everything. We get commits from:

4* CB Jabari Glover
4* WR Ali Temple
4* CB Josh Walker
4* DE Corey Stewart
2* FB Jeff Wright
2* P Scott Thibodeaux

The only guy left on my list is a 2* Center I brought on b/c of required depth late in the regular season.

It takes all the way through Week 5, but I finally get him.

2* C Logan Lewis signs with NCSU.

ATH Terry Bracey converts to SS, the DB position where we have the least youth. He'll likely be a 3-year starter there.

UGH, I forgot to look at the final recruiting class rankings before I advanced through recruiting, so I have no idea about any of the rankings.

Here's my class though:

7 4*

Incoming Freshmen

4* QB Keller - 83
5* QB Novak - 82
5* HB Dingle - 82
5* WR Holley - 80 (JUCO)
4* CB Walker - 79
5* SS Bracey - 79 (ATH, would have been 80 at CB, but needs dictate)
5* FS Ball - 79
4* WR Amadi - 78
5* DE Mayo - 78
4* RG Callahan - 78
4* DE Stewart - 76
4* CB Glover - 73
4* WR Temple - 72
2* P Thibodeaux - 62
2* C Lewis - 60
2* FB Wright - 59

Last year I had 11 players rated between 70-74, 4 from 75-79, and 1 player rated 80+ in my freshman class.

This year I have 2 rated 70-74, 7 rated 75-79, and 4 who come in already rated 80 or above. That is a significant improvement.

Cuts

I've only got to make 2 cuts this year. One is easy, the 2* FB will be my backup instead of the 1* one from last year. FB Hartman (rated 50 OVR) is gone.

For the other one, i'm going to cut JR QB Andrew Mitchell. I'll redshirt one of my freshmen this year, and the other next year, to keep 3 active QBs on the roster each year.

#17 Richard Wilson, 6'1" 190 lbs, JR(RS), 90 OVR

#16 Josh Novak, 6'0" 175 lbs, FR, 82 OVR

Outlook:

Wilson gained 5 more points this year. Last year was the best year I had with a QB. I hope this year will be better. I don't have the depth at WR as I did last year, but I have 2 very talented guys to throw to.

Numerically, we're better here, but we know that isn't really true. Bullock can be expected to go for 1200 yards and 15 TDs easily anyway, he just lacks the explosiveness I had lately.

2015 Recruiting

PIPELINE

Our Pipeline states are NC, VA, GA, FL, TX, TN, and MD.

Major Needs

Tackle: HUGE need here. We're graduating both starters and our top backup. We need to bring in 2, probably 3 tackles no matter what the talent level.

Center: A need as big as Tackle was last year, if we don't get one this year we're going to be crazy desparate next year.

Wide Receiver: With 2 more seniors this year, they're leaving faster than we can bring them in.

Tight End: Must land someone, even if 2*. We seriously need talent here though.

Guard: Not nearly as important as the other O-line positions, but we could use more here as we've got two upperclassmen starting.

Defensive Tackle: Need 1 for depth, as we're graduating out top 2 this year.

Outside Linebacker: We have 2 Junior OLB's that we'll be looking to replace in 2 seasons.

Cornerback: Always.

Strong Safety: Bracey will be good, but we have 3 upperclassmen above him, so lets get another guy who can play for when the guys there now are all gone.

Kicker: Dear lord please.

Minor Needs

Fullback: Depth if I can find a 3* player

Defensive End: Losing two starters, we could use additional depth here.

When the #1 HB in the nation has you listed 1st on his recruiting board, I think you have to go after him, regardless of need.

A few of these other guys, including a 5* CB, have me #1 and I will pray for early signings, but don't expect them.

I have 20 guys on the board to start the season off.

2015 NC State Recruiting Ratings

Changes from last year are noted.

Academic Prestige: G
Campus Lifestyle: VG
Coach Experience: EX
Coach Prestige: GR
Conference Prestige: EX
Championship Contender: EX
Athletic Facilities: EL
Fan Base: EX (up from GR)
Pro Factory: EX (up from GR)
Program Stability: EX
Program Tradition: EL (up from EX)
Television Exposure: VG (up from G)

EL = Elite
EX = Excellent
GR = Great
VG = Very Good
G = Good
Fair = Fair

We've got two "elite" items now, and so many Excellent's that anyone remotely interested in us should be an easy sell. About the only problems I could have is if I run into a guy who only cares about academics, parties on campus, and being on TV all at the same time.

OU and Texas are still #1/#2.

FSU falls from 3rd to 4th (passed up by Notre Dame). Clemson remains 10th this year, while Virginia Tech fell from 18th to 21st.

Lastly, for today at least, I'm itching to see how I'm rated. Last year it was 86 OVR. Its a nice step up this year:

89 OVR
92 OFF
87 DEF

I expect only FSU to be rated anywhere close to us in the ACC.

Bullock: 28 carries, 190 yards, 3 TD
Moore: 4 rec, 27 yards
Dan Johnson: 4 rec, 76 yards, 1 TD
