Yeah, saw that, good stuff...but my fav Mike Modano related tweet was the following from Ryan Whitney while playing in a golf tourney with a bunch of NHLers and ex-NHLers:

@ryanwhitney6

quote of this golf trip just happened After having his putting chirped by Modano, Eberle said "youre a dick Mo Im so happy I was a Sakic fan"

Actually, I believe the city is to be called Lidstroit (although there have been some rumblings of Yzerville but that is just a rumor).

I would welcome Chelios back to the NHL in a heartbeat......and a Rascal!

Carchidi is reporting the Flyers are signing Bruno Gervais.

And that they still want to sign Carle. I love Matt Carle (I know a lot of Flyers fans don't), but I wouldn't give him more than 5.5-5.75M a year.

Yeah, that doesn't make me feel any better.

Kimmo's breaking down... if they don't make a move that defense is probably gonna be pretty... average (at best next year)

Timonen/Coburn
Schenn/Meszaros
Lilja/Gervais

Bourdon, Gustafsson, DSOD as the next three.

Does not exactly inspire confidence.

Niskanen - Engelland
Strait/Bortuzzo

Martin needs to have a huge bounce back at this point to make me feel good at all.

Still hoping the Wings pull off some type of deal to get Bobby Ryan and/or Keith Yandle and/or Jay Boumeester.

I'll probably hate myself later, but really liking the idea of Pittsburgh going after Semin.

Yeah, he said that crap about Crosby a few seasons back...but he's the most talented player left on the market. And fills a huge need both as a winger for Crosby (or Malkin, and bump Neal to Crosby's line) and a RH shot on the PP.

They've cleared a ton of space, I'd go 1 year at like $6M or $10m/2 years depending on what he wanted.

Crosby was the only major deal up after the 12-13 season - Cooke and Dupuis too, but neither is going to break the bank.

The following year is Malkin, Letang, Sutter and others...but also get out from under a group of older players at the same time in Orpik, Martin, Kunitz.

I don't put Pominville in that category-far from it. I think you maybe one of the lone Sabres' fan in this group these days. Underperform? I would argue he is one of the Sabres' most valuable assets.

Pominville is great on the penalty kill, plays solid defense, durable, and he gives 100%. A very good, professional two-way player who may have been the overall best offensive player last year.

Here comes th lockout. Owners offer according to sources:

RT @RenLavoieRDS: NHL proposal to players:
1-reduce players hockey related revenues to 46% from 57 %.
2-10 seasons in NHL before being UFA.
3-contracts limited to 5 years
4-no more salary arbitration.
5- entry-level contract 5 years instead of 3.

Owners would be silly not to make those demands in their first offer. Have to start at low to reach something palatable at middle ground.

And when the players want to them to budge on all those demands, they can point the finger and say "Look...they are asking too much of us! It's their fault"

The % of revenues will come down from 57%, just not to 46%. And I can even see the NHLPA saying OK on the 5 year entry level deals. That impact isn't going to be so great, at least to the NHL. Might hurt NCAA, as kids leave earlier to sign those first deals. All it's going to eliminate at the NHL level is the majority of team friendly 2nd deals. Letang is in year 3 of a 4 year deal making $3.5M (2nd contract). Giroux is in year 3 of a 4 year deal, making $3.75M. Guess how much those two are making if, after a 5 year entry level deal, these new contracts were only negotiated after last season?

Don't see the players moving on the FA age, from 7 to 10, if they give the additional entry level years.

Fair enough SR, and I think most of us understand that part of negotiations, but the frustration comes when both sides are refusing to meet more timely. And when they finally do, they waste precious time with this bullshit.

I agree it is frustrating. I understand why the owners start at such a high point (or low, I guess, depending on interpretation), but doesn't mean I like it. But what would be the fun in both starting at 52% of revenues, and agreeing before they start negotiations?

It is hard to watch owners cry poor one week after one team agrees to pay $200M over the next 13 years, and another thinks giving Sheldon Souray near $4M is a good idea less than a year after he could have been had for league minimum.

The cap, in part, is to save owners from themselves...and now they are telling us it's not powerful enough to save us enough.

A little higher than what I'd like, but three years is good for a guy with his injury history.

edit: And don't forget, Tyler Sloan is the worst player in the NHL, but Mike Green is worse tan Tyler Sloan.

I can't see the players giving in on any of it except possibly the 5 year contract limitation. Of course, if the owners can somehow get out of their own way and lower these demands, anything can happen.

As it stands right now, that initial offer is laughable from a players union perspective.

I just read something in the Detroit News (on-line) that the bidding for Shane Doane started at $7.5 million a year for four years. Yikes! I like Shane Doan well enough and all, but not for $7.5 million.

Here's a quick tip - if you are really losing money don't give 30 million dollars to an ancient broken down Shane Doan.

I'd love to see Doan on the Ducks for about 5 million for 2 years. Anything over that, good luck to who "wins"

If I may pimp my own blog (but not my own work), one of our writers has a pretty cool interview with Scott Parker

Part 1 is up today, part 2 will be tomorrow
An Afternoon With Former Avalanche Enforcer Scott Parker - Mile High Hockey
