So am I just jaded, or am I the only one who thought they held this news until the show came back? I mean, what are the chances that it randomly breaks the day her show returns from a 4 week hiatus?

I thought Steve Buscemi was great hosting SNL last night. The skit where he was a coach being investigated for being a pedophile was awesome.

Yeah New Girl really does it for me. There are so many small things that make me smile or chuckle, like the spoon on a chain to get soap in their washroom, or Jess yesterday saying something like "what about a flick, would that do it?"

I didn't care for the supporting cast during the first few episodes, but they've really come on stronger since then.

I really like New Girl, but it tends to come off like a slightly lesser version of Happy Endings, which I think is the best pure comedy on TV right now.

To me, Parks and Recreation is the best comedy on TV right now and nothing else is even close.

I will agree that I think P&R is the best right now - but Happy Endings is pretty close. Both great at what they do.

I started to watch Happy Endings a little over a month ago or so. And I really enjoy it. Brad and/or Jane never fail to make me laugh.

Modern Family keeps on keeping on as well.

Seriously? Every time I see her on the show I'd like to change my vote from "not" to "no way in hell". I can't shake the feeling that I want to punch her in the face.

Love parks and Rec and I like Up all Night. As a newish parent, my wife and I see a lot of parallels. I like Happy Endings but I love Casey Wilson.

That's why I said pure comedy. I think Parks and Rec is the best show on TV right now, but there are stretches of an episode where I don't laugh. It doesn't mean it's not good, but it's doing something completely different from a show like New Girl or Happy Endings.

I see they now have New Girl on back to back with I Hate My Teenage Daughter. That is a really awful hour of TV.

Why didn't I start watching this from the start. A couple weeks ago the replayed the first two episodes on a Sunday night and this show is awesome. Finally caught another episode and now have my DVR set to record any episode.

This show is great.

The one with Eliot from Just Shoot Me was my favorite I think. The Bank Robbery one was pretty cool as well.

If ever there was a chance for a show to be canceled during the first episode, this looks like it could be it.

I probably should have added a sarcastic smiley to the original !Rob! Post. I'm curious of the machinations of how such a shitty show gets made. Does he have some insane pay or play with a guaranteed TV airing? Between this and Work It, TV just got shitty.

Yes. Both shows probably got made on pay or play deals. Then, there have been some crappy ideas that got made soley because of p-o-p deals that actually gained traction. It would be an interesting study to see the numbers of those that made it/those that didn't (past a half season). I'd say less than 5%.

I guess we should start a new TV thread since its 2012, but just a reminder that the new and very intriguing looking show, Alcatraz starts tonight on Fox, and American Idol a couple days later.

I'm looking forward to Alcatraz and, most of all, the River (it starts on Feb. 7th).

Here's the summary for the River:

Quote:
Famed explorer Dr. Emmet Cole (Bruce Greenwood) went looking for magic deep in the uncharted Amazon and never returned. The shocking truth about his disappearance is out there, somewhere, just waiting to be discovered. To the millions of kids who grew up watching his nature show, Dr. Cole was a hero. To his own son, Lincoln (Joe Anderson), he was more of an enigma. Now, six months after he vanished, Lincoln is finally ready to bury the past when Dr. Cole's emergency beacon suddenly goes off. At the urging of his mother, Tess (Leslie Hope), Lincoln reluctantly joins her on a search for his father. To fund the rescue, they agree to let Dr. Cole's cagey ex-producer, Clark (Paul Blackthorne), film the mission documentary-style. The mixed crew of old friends and new acquaintances includes the sexy and resourceful Lena (Eloise Mumford), loyal mechanic Emilio (Daniel Zacapa) and lethal bodyguard Captain Kurt Brynildson (Thomas Kretschmann).

I saw an extended ad for it at the movie theater last weekend and it looked pretty interesting and spooky.

Just saw a commercial for Alcatraz the other day, may give that a shot as it could be interesting.

On a different note: Any word if Breakout Kings will be back on A&E?

Sadly, "Work It" has been axed.

I told my TiVo to record ¡Rob!, and my TiVo slapped me. Then it started playing a bunch of Rob Schneider shit that I never told it to record, and it said out loud, "DON'T YOU SEE THIS MAN IS NOT FUNNY?" I tried to turn it off, but nothing would work. Throughout the night, my TiVo mocked me. "TIVOOOOOO... MAKIN' COPIES... OF THE HOT CHICK. YOU MUST WATCH THIS ALL NIGHT." It proceeded to crank up the volume, refusing to let me sleep. I tried to reason with TiVo, you know, maybe tell it that I was joking when I suggested that it record ¡Rob!, but no. TiVo would not listen. I told it that I hit the wrong button and was trying to record Kitchen Nightmares instead. That was a grave mistake. TiVo started doing some odd mashup of Gordon Ramsay and Rob Schneider. "ROB SCHNEIDER CAN MAKE A RISOTTO BETTER THAN HE CAN MAKE YOU LAUGH, YOU DONKEY!" It was getting really creepy.

TiVo didn't calm down until I finally plugged in a flash drive that was full of Cynthia Rothrock movies. Five minutes after hearing some heavy breathing coming from TiVo, the madness was over. TiVo doesn't even acknowledge the existence of Rob Schneider anymore. As of this moment, neither shall I.

Very much been looking forward to Alcatraz...hope it lives up to the hype.

So funny about Work It too...everytime I would see a commercial, I had to look away. I told my wife it wouldn't last 3 episodes. Glad to see I was right.

Although it still baffles me that it still some how got 5 million people watching...

Okay - prediction for this show (Alcatraz) as far as what the central mystery is:

Government mind-control program (with cryogenic/cloning aspect to explain the lack of ageing), gone wrong. The "FBI guy" is actually trying to clean up the damage from it and keep it contained, cover it up.
