Anybody that is using a long sword, what is the ballpark amount of damage you are doing with it? I think the dagger is better than my Gladius +1 but I'm not 100%.

Also, any angband players, how the heck do I use the bow I have? Running up and stabbing people, I understand. Just can't figure out how to shoot arrows.

I barely made it out of the market area like my 4th time trying and died to the first monster I found in the dungeon.

I think maybe 'f' for fire? Try navigating the help via either = or ? (I can't remember which), there's one list that lists all the commands that is obviously quite helpful.

Depending on the keyset you are using (its probably the normal one versus the "rogue" keyset I use its either the letter f or t to fire a bow. Do a ? and you should get a help menu that includes a command list and/or description. What version of angband are you playing? Be glad to help getting used to the game.

You die a lot in angband, especially early on when you are new to the game, so don't feel bad.

My suggestion is to play a Warrior first. Dunadan race if they have it. High Elf if not. It's a bit boring of a class because you don't get spells, but that just removes a level of strategy/difficulty you don't need when first playing.

PM me if you want Angband help so we don't clutter up the thread here.

Jackal,

It turns out that disc was shiny for a reason. You've no doubt noticed light reflecting off of it, and I believe you'll find that when fighting a creature that attacks with their gaze, like the dreaded medusa, it will be reflected away from you and back to the creature from whence it came! Otherwise its a better than a regular shield and is worth somewhere around 400 gold.

The old D&D guy in me would say 1-8, and 1-12 against large, but I obviously don't know if Abe is using that or not.

Wow, just got my nads mashed by a Guzak Shaman. Holy crap. Had to go through a Cure Light and a Cure Moderate just to survive.

As a result, I ascend to Level 4 and have a magical staff that I hope Pass will ID for free [as offered.]
