Without any inside knowledge the rules of this game and the write-up prior to the rules post clearly states that the miners are the attackers and the wolves are the defenders. Surely if the miners did not attack the wolves would not have to defend.

But that doesn't really add up in the scheme of things. The point is each side determined arbitrarily from knowing what the other will do how many soldiers to send. Using that logic you lay out, if we sent in 1, the wolves could only use 1 and keep the rest behind to use later.

Allow me to shed light on this. This is the mathematical formula for the whole game.

% villagers have any control over game = 2%
% sympathizers can do what they want = 47%
% Abe had already predetermined results = 51%

If they sent out 1000 soldiers, they should have simply been out there, doing nothing. It's no different than leftover surviving soldiers staying out there doing nothing after the battle.

Yeah, and now my wife will be upset when she comes home and I tell her we need to wait until the results are posted for us to go out.

I'm adding an additional role to my next game just for Lathum. You are Achilles- you are invincible from night kills and being lynched, except one vote from Poli results in your instant death.

You think you spy an opening in the Sympathizer defenses and send out 2572 miners to exploit it.

However, as they arrive in a middle area, you hear the sound of several small planes flying through the area. They drop bombs on the miners and force them back, killing a few.

Don Chafin and his Sympathizers have won Stage Three.

Daddy Torgo has been killed by the shrapnel from a bomb.

Stage Four begins tomorrow morning at 9:00 am

Ummm, yeah, we just went 0-3 today and, from what I've picked up, they've lost no soldiers.

I'll take the heat here, as I thought 2500 was a decent number.

Although, with all these tricks up their sleeves, I'm thinking that the wolves must not have very many soldiers, otherwise what actual chance did we have?

So have they shot their wad here or do bad things come in threes (or more)? I guess I would think that they probably have at least one more special attack and then we'll get to their soldiers. Maybe they got one special attack for every village they kept us from and have a very limited number of soldiers? As I said above, I'm guessing then that they don't have a lot of soldiers in order to keep the game balanced.

The Battle is ongoing. The Stages are just ways of breaking things up for game purposes. The soliders are still there hacking and coughing from the poison gas in one place, and dodging missles in another, while whatever troops are sent in future stages will be active.s

So yes, most of the soldiers will return, few will die to the bombs. But their return will be long after the Battle has been determined one way or the other.

Hopefully that makes sense. All of this is basically going on at the same time, only separated by minutes.

In case you think I am making this stuff up, when Bill Blizzard, leader of the miners in the Battle, was put on trial for insurrection (and in the same courthouse as Jim Brown was tried, fyi), the defense presented an unexploded bomb to prove how far Chafin and the government went.

TBH, I about gave up around the third or fourth "event" a few days back. I don't feel like I am determining anything, so I'm just along for the ride.

The coal companies directly paid the salaries of around 40 of the police officers working under Chafin in Logan County prior to the Battle of Blair Mountain
