Also, corollary to the County Chicken Conundrum 2024: the public discussion has now entered the "why are some no-name elected officials making these decisions instead of us directly voting on them?" stage of the debate.

Indiana's constitution doesn't have a provision for voter referendums.

So it appears that we're just complaining about the concept of representative democracy in general because we've elected a bunch of RINOs.

Except for the guy who actually lives in Texas but owns property in the county who keeps threatening to drive up and blow up the courthouse if this thing actually passes. He seems to understand representative democracy, at least.

Yeah, they're all going with the "oh shucks, I thought being paid $100k by a shadowy group for a single YouTube video was totally normal" defense. They all knew but since they're white, wealthy, and well-connected, nothing will happen to them.

I get that rainmaker can be abrasive but "I'm sorry, I draw a hard line at voting for genocide and both candidates are equally funding that, and the 'lesser evil' is actively shitting on protestors during our only opportunity to try to drag the party platform even a smidgen to the left" isn't the most unreasonable take in the world. I think hearing that and making the dismissive judgments that many are making is a bit much.

It's just not that much to ask of a candidate to not openly fund and arm a genocide, and if none of them can do that, maybe I make a protest vote or leave my ballot blank in the top spot.
