He's definitely abrasive. I used to really enjoy his segments on a local Kansas City station, tho - the host there reigned him in a bit and I learned a decent bit about basketball. He seems to know the Xs and Os well and can communicate them, which not a lot can. Like if they put him up there to break down why Team X did well versus Team Y, like what kind of defense they were running and how they hedged on ball screens or whatever, he's good at that. But, yeah, abrasive, especially as a studio host.

Gonzaga was impressive today as well. The ways they can beat you...outside, inside, defense...it'll be interesting to see who's able to contain them and how they're able to do it. Baylor, with the 3 guards and the athleticism they have, looks to be the best bet to take them out.

Baylor has the best chance to do it. But Baylor, in the past, has been suceptible to coughing things away, so there's a decent chance they don't make it there.

In the only college tournament that matters , Coastal Carolina beat Bryant today in the first round of the CGI 93-82. They move on to face Stetson next who beat Bowling Green by a point.

LSU doesn’t seem to have anyone that can make midrange shots. It’s either drive in wildly to throw it up off the glass or threes.

Looking at the KU season, there's a clear dividing line for their results ... and it's the one that USC turned into a layup line.

They won 21 games ... only twice did they win when giving up more than 66 points ... their first win of the season (94-72 over St Joes) and their last win of the season (93-84 over EWU).

Of their 9 losses on the court, they gave up 75 or more in all 9.

edit to add: in case anybody wondered why I'd even look into that, it's because Tennessee kinda peaked with their 80-61 win over KU. That win improved the Vols to 12-3, they finished the year 6-6 after that, half the losses to non-tournament teams. That was such a turning point for them that it caused me to be slightly more conscious of Kansas afterwards.

Maybe that's what it is - at heart he's an Xs and Os guy trying too hard to have a sports radio personality. Whatever it is, I can't stand listening to him. Until this weekend, I had forgotten he existed. He must be buried on CBS Sports Radio so I never hear/see him.

That FSU game was a microcosm of the entire season. Incredible D for 40 minutes, incredibly loose with the ball, negating much of the great work done on D, Scottie Barnes with an unimpressive stat sheet but clearly the best player out there doing everything, sharp shooters hitting 3s, Raiquan Gray looking like Earl Campbell in the lane. Balsa was terrible though. Need him to play well against Michigan.

This year's team was really flawed but Self managed to paper over a lot of that, as he usually does. No point guard so had Garrett slide over from wing because he wanted that defense out there. No one who could create shots or slash to the basket so they had to create ball movement to get better shots. Only their 3 point shooting and, shooting in general, wasn't very good. The high low offense ran through McCormack, who came on the second half of the season but he's not an offensive force - he's more of a finesse guy. And that was problematic on the defensive end as he's not the rim guarding presence that Bill Self's best teams have. So they had to overcompensate by switching on a ton of stuff as the rest of the team was a bunch of mismatched wings. It's kindof amazing that we did as well as we did on the season, all things considered.

Howard has no commits for 2021 as far as I can see and while 5* Makur Maker committed last summer he only played in two of the five games Howard played before cancelling the season due to COVID. I would have to think that he is a longshot to even return for another season.

So I have to ask where you are getting this Top 5 incoming class info from and why you think they will be special?

LMAO

I will show myself the door.

Edit: I don't know how I got so locked in on Howard U, other than I knew about the hype surrounding Maker last season and when I saw tarcone's post I figured they got some other high profile commits for next season.

Michigan will turn into a basketball school soon. Funny that will happen when Indiana is turning into a football school.

yes they are. 2nd best team all season IMHO. Multiple scorers and shooters. Really like the PG Mitchell a ton. Unselfish player who can do whatever he wants at anytime he wants.

Perimeter defense and outside shooting are their strengths. Teams that dont turn it over, are athletic, and have an inside presence should be their weakness.

Bad matchups would be
Gonzaga
Villanova
Michigan

Disclaimer- I thought Wisconsin matched up well against them for most of the reasons listed and Baylor turned them over all game long... Villanova and Wisconsin aren't all that much different right now athletically.

Gonzaga is just a special team. They are the best passing college team(collectively all 5 positions) I have ever seen. They truly define what a "team" plays like.

I won't be very disappointed if Florida State beats Michigan - Hamilton is one of my favorite people in college basketball and one of those it really sucked for having to cancel the tournament last year with the team they had. It will be a travesty if he doesn't reach the Final Four sometime before he's done.

ETA: Agree on Gonzaga. They look to me like as much of a sure bet as I've seen in a while. I'd take them against the field right now.

Their Kenpom profile is insane. They're a 37, which is the highest ever (slightly above 2015 Kentucky). /And/ they're a crazy 7 points higher than any other team. There's never been anything like that. I get that it's a fluky year statistically, but those numbers are crazy.

Iowa Womens BB team is in the Sweet 16. They face UConn at 1 pm Saturday on ABC.

Iowa has an electric freshman in Caitlin Clark. She averaged 27 points and 7 assists this year. She wil face UConns electric freshman Paige Bueckers.

This could be epic

Oh Bracket Season, you're so wacky.

Remember how hot my men's bracket started out? Yeah, umm.
I'm down to the 81st percentile, in like 2.8 millionth place on ESPN.
Only 6 of the Sweet 16 right.

Remember how awful my women's bracket started out? Yeah, umm
99th percentile, in 9,346th place (out of however many millions)
14 of the Sweet 16 right, which I mention cause of this quirk. The only two picks I got wrong? Georgia Tech women are still alive, UGA women are eliminated. Everything else I guessed right.

This could be epic

That should be a great game. I watched Bueckers play a couple of times this year. She's very good. I will probably have their game in my rotation of basketball games for Saturday.

What's your take on the Lady Vols coach?

After a long week, I was looking forward to watching some basketball tonight. Unfortunately games don't start again until Saturday.

A vast improvement over the previous one, tho I don't know how much that's saying.

Otherwise, I'm pretty distanced from this season's team. One they got into "sjw" stuff as players, I was out, they're just another team to me.

Sounds like Shaka Smart is leaving Texas and going to Marquette. Sad that it didn't work out for him here in Austin.
