If this ends up being a Hawks-Rangers finals I'm going to be sad. I don't want to have to root for the Hawks to win..

a) how the holy hell do you miss that?
b) that should be a reviewable play - Prust should be gone and the Rangers should have a 5 min PP. He'll get suspended but you won't get rid of those hits unless they are punished on the ice |

Oh I agree - but the league has consistently shown they aren't willing to make those decisions
Ultimately, if the refs had made the correct call on the ice, there's a very good chance (not sure of the conversion rate on a 5 min pp but it's got to be pretty damn high) that changes the result of the game and the Canadiens are probably done in the series edit - I wonder if Abdelkader is more worried about the IIHF suspension he's about to get, or the fact that he single handedly cost all his teammates a WC medal. Calling it correctly on the ice should be the first punishment Last edited by bhlloy : 05-23-2014 at 12:44 PM. |

Late to the party (busy weekend) but Prust got two fucking games for a textbook dirty hit that seriously injured the other player. And yet we have no idea why the head shots are still part of the game...

Yeah two games seemed really light to me as well.

Phone hearings limit suspensions to what, 5 games? I figured they'd get him out of the series with that. Surprised he'll be back tonight.

so, 2 games for John Moore too? At least this time one of the two blinds saw it. Same call should have been made on Prust when he made his hit.

That's my guess. Not that it matters in terms of discipline, but I saw courtesy of CBC that Moore's hit was 0.5 seconds after Weise let go of the puck. Prust's was 0.93 seconds. |

Yeah, read the same in a tweet from Elliotte Friedman Trying to think like the NHL makes my brain hurt. Prust's twice as late. But (from replays I've seen) Moore left his feet. And I'd argue Moore's principal point of contact was the head. So which factor weighs most heavily?

Difference in timing would make me think 1 game for Moore. NHL could decide to handle it consequentially, though, and not suspend based on the lack of injury.

I think there's zero chance that he gets less than 2. The timing will net out with the clearer contact to the head.

BTW, the only reason I mentioned the difference in timing was because it annoyed me that every replay I saw yesterday comparing the two hits, the Prust hit was in regular speed and the Moore hit was in slow motion. Of course they'll look like similar timing in that regard.

been looking at both hits back and forth, in slowmo and real speed and forget about the .43 seconds difference, these two hits are about the same. The puck was gone for long enough so that either guy had to at least try to hit differently and try to avoid a hit to the head of the other player.
but like SR said, trying to think like the NHL makes my head want to explode so I'll stop now... FM

It's a followup to the play on words he did in his game 5 postgame presser. After the win, he was asked if he could tell more about Alexei Emelin's injury, when it happened, what it was, and finally, if it was a lower body injury or a upper body injury. Not wanting to be specific, his reply was that it was a... body injury. Everyone in the room got a good laugh about it and I'm thinking he just went for the same answer today. Of course, he wants to be as vague as he can be about it. FM

that was a pretty pathetic showing in the third period for Montreal. To start with a power play and come out so flat was pretty sad. They had a good run that almost nobody had expected. Tokarski isn't the one to be blamed for this but I believe it could have been a very different series had Price been in goals for Montreal... FM

About 12 hours later and I can finally breathe. That was excruciating but amazing.
Quote:
I think the issue is more that they were completely gassed. You could see it developing in the 2nd, especially defensively. The whole team was chasing the Rangers in the 1st and that wears you down. The Rangers were doing a great job protecting their own blue line and not giving an easy entry, and the Habs didn't have the speed at that point to fight that off. Tokarski played a hell of a series. Happy to be moving on. |

My brain was thinking roughly "NY vs LA maybe ... that oughta be good for ratings". And then I discovered how much better NY vs CHI would probably be for the ratings (since the Kings last title run fairly fizzled in ratings).
And then I wondered whether who makes it would really matter or not, since so far the playoffs are getting beaten routinely by cartoon & sitcom reruns on Adult Swim and TBS. NHL Playoffs 2014: Road To Stanley Cup Drawing Strong Interest From Big Cities?

you're probably right, I was just so surprised they came out so flat to start out the period, with a power play of all things but I gotta give it to them, defensively the Rangers gave absolutely nothing to the Habs. Lundkvist wasn't tested much during the whole game and when he needed a miracle save, he did it against Vanek. Kudos to your team, good luck in the finals. Whoever goes through you'll be facing a heck of a team, although if Chicago hangs on to force a game 7, either could be quite tired by the time the finals starts... FM

Thanks. Was a fun series. Wish it happened with Price playing.
I think I'd rather face Chicago just on the fact that Quick > Crawford and the Rangers will deservedly be the underdog against either team, so I'd prefer having the goalie edge. Either team will be a bitch to go up against so having the series go seven would be great. Last edited by Logan : 05-30-2014 at 12:28 PM. |

This is pretty wild. In recent history, the road to the SCF runs through...Philly.
2008 - Penguins beat Flyers in ECF to advance to SCF 2009 - Penguins beat Flyers round 1, advance to SCF (win Cup) 2010 - Flyers themselves advance to SCF 2011 - Bruins beat Flyers round 2, advance to SCF(win Cup) 2012 - Devils beat Flyer round 2, advance to SCF 2013 - Flyers do not qualify for playoffs 2014 - Rangers beat Flyers round 1, advance to SCF
