I went ahead and got the defender off of amazon. 50 bucks is more reasonable than 90. I got next day for 4 bucks.

Ooh...
I need to get a case that protects the screen better. I'm totally over fingerprints and wiping it down constantly and I'm afraid I'm going to scratch it before long.

Thru 4 weeks of the NFL Season.
Few things rival HDTV plus iPad plus beverage of your choice plus couch during the NFL season. I know you can get a similar experience with a laptop. but this is perfect. |

Did you get the stand or the case? If the case do you like yours as much as I like mine?

here's the right thread.
Has anyone Jailbroken their iPad? I was going to try to run some sort of tethering thing with my cell phone. Also, I'm kind of bummed that the Air came in at 949(education discount). I'd much rather have it than my iPad, and it's only like 350 more dollars. |

Great list, thanks! I picked up Sim City, C&C, Mirror's Edge, and Snood.
I'm really tempted to get Madden 11... I played Madden 10 on the iPhone and loved the controls, but it was way too easy. |

I also read that many other publishers are slashing prices before Christmas, so it may pay off to take a look at other, non-EA games that are cheap.

It was funny. My decision point was when I saw that I could do the Vintage Voltage football on Madden. That is wirth $.99, even if I don't ever load the standard game.

I really wish I would have passed on the Sim City. I had some fun with Madden for 10 bucks, it's surely worth a dollar.

I believe Apple locks prices and app versions for a few days before and after Christmas. EA put all games at 99 cents to "freeze" their games in the top 25 paid apps so new iDevice owners with gift cards will see plenty of EA when they shop in the App Store for the first time Christmas morning.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a app that allows you to print from an iPad?
I see a few of them in the app store, but they all get mixed reviews. |

I think its the 29th when prices revert, basically Apple/iTunes is 'closed' over xmas so price changes can't happen until it opens up again (which is the 29th according to the developer sites, but they definitely have some cache issues to sort out with their servers once they do so, so I wouldn't be surprised if the prices revert over the course of a day or so) .... I really like the look of this clamcase thing at $119, however I'd have to actually touch it before i part with that much dough. It does a full 360 spin on the hinge, if you don't want to use the keyboard. Last edited by stevew : 02-12-2011 at 11:13 AM. |

Best Buy sells those clamshell cases. They operate on bluetooth, though.

After the performance I've seen with iOS 4, I can't imagine using a bluetooth keyboard.
I run into laggy response, and took a 25% hit(absolutely anecdotal assessment) on battery life. |

iPad 2 starts selling on March 11th. Any buyers remorse for anyone out there? Same prices as the current gen. Has a camera as rumored, FaceTime for iPad and a sweet new case, faster processor and is thinner. They also announced Garage Band for iPad which is awesome. I wish these stupid things didn't cost too much.
I'm wondering if the Nook Color might be a decent alternative, if you're just reading and internet browsing. Edit: Always good to see Jobs out there. I thought he might be hospital-bound at this point. Last edited by molson : 03-02-2011 at 03:00 PM. |

For those with a current gen, whats the speed like? I am considering getting one of the "older" ones since they dropped to 350 for refurbished, or even 400 for new. If they are fast enough I don't really see anything in the new ones that I must have.

The iPad is pretty neat - its about the same speed as an iPhone 4, which means its nippy apart from when doing full screen animation. With full-screen animation the current gen is pushing things a little as its got a 1024x768 screen which means its shifting a LOT more pixels than the phones do, that being said now people have gotten used to tweaking for the iPad even full screen apps are holding a decent rate imho. |

We are going to pad up with the new one. We've had a decent store credit at Apple since Christmas to take care of a lot of the cost.

I've been debating it and considered selling my current gen. But I think since Apple releases new stuff each year like with the iPhone, I'll just wait for the iPad 3. I won't get as much for my iPad at that point if anything at all, but...I think it'll be worth the wait for me given how I use it right now. (Sparingly) |

OMG... I believe my wife is going to let me get a white 32GB ipad 2!
Anyone have a 16GB and if so, it is enough as far as storage goes? I'd hate to settle for the 16GB and then kick myself for not getting the 32GB. I have about 12GB of music/pictures combined, although there is really no need to put all of that on my ipad is there? How much space do "apps" take? Anyone have this app that lets you remote into your home pc? I own a 32GB iPad and I could've easily have gotten away with a 16GB one. It's only really an issue if you're going to put movies on it. Apps don't take up much space and neither does music (unless you wanna put your whole library on there...) or much of anything else. It's all about the movies/tv shows you want to put on there. Also, I use the LogMeIn remote app. It's pricey, but it's worked pretty great since I've had it.

Is it just the size of these things which make people like them so much? I am out of date with things like this so Im kind of wondering why people would pay more for these than they would a decent laptop computer. Is there some other features other than what you could do on a laptop?
Thanks for the help. |

I have a decent laptop computer, too. I bought them within a month of each other. It's portable and so much easier than carrying my laptop around and does 90% of what I can do on the laptop. It's great for meetings and useful at home for watching movies and things when I don't want to do them on the laptop while I'm using it. And I don't have a TV anymore so it sort of serves as proxy for that in a strange way. So it's not a must-buy by any stretch of the imagination, but it's certainly a handy thing if you can justify using it. I replaced my smartphone with iPad essentially...because my smartphone annoyed me and wasn't particularly useful compared to how much use I've gotten out of my iPad (with no data plan btw) If I could play text sims for real with my iPad, I'd probably cut down my PC use to just doing big projects and such alike. (Hint, hint developers...) Oh and I hate Apple. So this isn't an Apple fanboy talking here. I've owned four Zunes for goodness sakes (only because they have a subscription service for music...) Thank you DC...
For me jb.. the size and battery life is definitely the draw for me. Being able to surf the web, etc.. while watching TV or hanging out on the patio would be great. Being able to just turn it on and go... I'm a web surfing junkie, plus showing off pics would be neat - not to mention all the apps available. |

Splashtop is hard to set up. You want logmein ignition. I have a 32, and I could easily get away with a 16 if I would delete stuff when I'm done listening to it(podcasts). Plus there is dropbox available if you really needed something. |
