Sounds like the Jeff Bowden years in the early 00s that basically spelled the end for Bobby.

Jimbo has a worse record through his first 50 games than Sumlin did. But he's got one big thing Sumlin did not have - a $95M buyout.

Damn, Nebraska REALLY wanted Frost gone.

Firing him today cost them $15 million in buyout.

Wait until October 1 and that goes down to $7.5 million.

And to add to the sense of urgency, they only have one game left before 10/1 ... a highly likely loss (regardless of HC) to Oklahoma

Either a booster couldn't handle waiting and/or the new B1G tv deal means they shrug at $7.5 million.

The interim coach is the first black HC in Nebraska history. In any sport.

Given the money involved and the way football is structured as a year-round job, I wish there was some sort of rule that coaches could not leave a job to take a new one outside of a specific time window in January/February.

Which is not to say Frost should keep his job - they have far too much talent there to justify these results, and a change could end up salvaging the season.

It is pretty surprising that a major program hasn't backed a truck full of money up to Matk Stoops house big enough to draw him.

Congrats to Hog Drew Sanders (transfer from AL)

Quote:
Arkansas junior linebacker Drew Sanders has been named the Walter Camp National FBS Defensive Player of the Week, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced Sunday.

In his second game as a Razorback, Sanders guided Arkansas to a 44-30 win over South Carolina on Saturday. The Denton, Texas, native recorded career highs in total tackles (11), including eight solo stops, and tackles for loss (3.0) against the Gamecocks. Sanders tied a school single-game record (based on available stats) in forced fumbles with two while tallying one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry.

Agreed. I wonder who he is holding out for. What he's done with Kentucky isnt quite Bill Snyder-level but pretty dang close.

Everyone ranks the UK job as #1 because of low expectations. He is king here. I can't imagine what it would take to fire him (or how many years of no bowl appearances), performance-wise.

It would be unbelievably poetic in a rip-your-heart-out kinda way if he just broke Bear Bryant's school wins record and then leaves.

Dola. And it would have to be a Jimbo-type deal where the buyout is insurmountable. And I'm guessing those deals don't look quite so appetizing right now (if they ever did).

Oh, I totally understand that. But at some point, the desire/need to win outweighs comfort, right? (oh, hi, Iowa, I forgot you were there) He wont be able to recruit to The Lex like he would in some other spots. At what point does that move the needle enough?

I get the feeling many would fire him, even if he met low expectations!

Not sure that's exactly how Stoops is wired.

Consider this: his brother Bob retired at age 56
Mark is now 55.

For all I know he'll take a job somewhere else tomorrow but if you made me put odds on it, I'd say the odds are better on Mark retiring within the next 5 seasons than there are of him taking a job elsewhere

Jon, that seems to be my understanding as well. He make lack any desire for a greater challenge, and just like to stay at the low stress level job he is at. But I still would think someone would have offered him the moon to try to get him to move.

File under: "But giving players NIL rights would be a stain on everything holy about college football"

When Nebraska fired Frost, they owed him a $15 million buyout. That's crazy enough. The crazier part is if they waited three weeks (to October 1st) to fire him, it would have only cost $7.5 million. Nebraska just gave away $7.5 million rather than wait THREE weeks more in a season that's likely already lost.

Stoops may not live another 5 years if he continues to gain weight like he has in the last couple years. The HC job may pay well but it's hella stressful and promotes an unhealthy lifestyle.

Mark Stoops is an Iowa grad. He played under Hayden Fry.

I would love to see Stoops hired at Iowa. After our stupid female co-AD in 1999 that passed on Bob Stoops because she thought he wasnt above the board. Stoops interviewed and if offered would have taken the job. He would have been the 2nd coming of Hayden Fry.

But we hired a University of Maine coach instead. And now his son is tearing down the program.

Mark Stoops to Iowa in 3 seasons is my prediction.

Three years from now he's 58. There's only a handful of HCs in D1 over 60, I'm just not sure I see him wanting to be part of that handful anywhere, especially since it'd mean he's likely only got one cycle of recruits (i.e. 4 years) in him.

Just wouldn't make a ton of sense.

I'm thinking it'll be a bad year for ND

Quote:
Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner suffered a high-grade AC joint sprain in his non-throwing shoulder in the loss Saturday to Marshall, Irish coach Marcus Freeman told reporters Monday.

Buchner will undergo surgery Tuesday and Freeman expects the recovery process to take four months, which would put the quarterback out for the remainder of the season.

Could this be a sign that the new arrivals are coming sooner than expected?
Maybe.

SEC directs 2 teams to not play home-and-home series vs. Oklahoma

It wouldn't surprise me if ESPN ponies up the money to cover them. Something that keeps the Big 12 relevant, TV-wise, among the ACC/PAC12 (for now) without OU/T would probably motivate them to let them out early. Plus, it seems like the four new Big 12 programs are looking ready to move early, as well.

Not a lot of Top-25 matchups this weekend.

#12 BYU vs #25 Oregon
#13 Miami vs #24 Texas A&M

BYU is on the Hogs schedule this year so hoping they'll get soften up some. And yeah, it'll be great for a total demoralizing shellacking of Texas A&M as we have them week after next.

I know I've read the Hogs have one of the toughest schedules/SOS this year, but looking through rest of season, if we can get past (then #6, now #24) A&M and #2 Alabama, everything else is doable.

Last year was worse. We had GA, AL, A&M and Texas (ranked until we beat them) and that was really tough.

When you specifically put female in your post, in the context you did, it comes off as implying her decisions are made because she's a female rather than an AD simply making poor decisions.

Remove female from your post and there's absolutely not a thing wrong with it. But if you had a male AD there's no chance you post it using the same wording and replacing female with male. You would have simply said "our AD".

It would be the same as using black, muslim, middle eastern, white, christian, atheist, or any other descriptor that has no relevance in the job the person is doing.

Hopefully this comes across as not flaming or attacking. That's not my intent. I genuinely just want to explain how the post came off.

The thing is, Iowa had a Male and Female AD at that time. We had both. They made decisions together. So there wasnt one AD to just say the AD, it was the female AD who nixed the deal, not the male.

So I specified which AD it was.

Remember when the Iowa fans tore down the goal post and carried out of the old dome on the last game of that dome. That is one of the best videos of all time. What a slap in the face of a weak program to allow the opposing team s fans to steal your goal post.

Couldnt remember it. But knew she was a female. Hell, if I was truly a douche bag, I would have said the female, lesbian, feminist, man hating AD.

Would that have been better? Would you have been more supportive because I listed all her adjectives? Or would you be more offended because of your soft interior?
