Latos threw under 60 pitches. Dusty should start him and then Arroyo on short rest in five if it gets that far. Leake hasn't pitched in ten days, I'd put that unknown at least level with Latos on short rest.

+1 Latos + LeCure + the rest of the pen is a better option right now than Leake and completely ruling out Cueto for the LCS (should we make it). It may seem like putting the cart before the horse, but it is what it is. |

We lose Cueto for the NLCS if he comes off now? Holy shit that sucks.

Yeah, I mean I'm rooting for Leake, but Latos' career record vs the Giants:
11 GP, 74 IP, 55 K, 12 BB, and a 2.19 ERA. |

Yea, Latos is a Giants killer, but I'd almost rather see him pitch for the second time in a row on three days rest which is historically beneficial to the opposition and then have the Reds go to game 5 with another pitcher on short rest.
This all assumes that Cueto is out for the series if it goes 5 and if it even gets to game 5.

There was also the idea that even if the sacrifice works, Dusty just intentionally walks Arias and you have Romo up to bat, forcing your hand to burn your last position player in Hector Sanchez and removing Romo from the game. Then that exact situation played out anyway with the passed ball, and Dusty DIDN'T walk Arias. It ended up working, because they got the ground ball...but then Rolen booted it. Still think Dusty made the wrong call there. |

Plus, Latos is a cocky MF. You just KNOW he wants the ball. Whether or not he'll get results is another story, but I guarantee you he was begging for Game 4 following the game tonight.

No way do I start Latos on short rest. I go somewhere else, and have Latos for game 5 on regular rest. If I have to DL Cueto, so be it. You have to get to the party to have fun, and if he can't go, he can't go.

With a win today, Zito can make a lot of Giants fans forget some of his earlier years in SF.

Of course, Sanchez will go 3 for 4 and Bochy will look like a genius now. At least that is what I'm going to keep telling myself up until game time.

Pretty sure Kozma's home run should have been ruled an infield fly.

Belt doesn't really make it move for me yet. Besides, bochy has done this Sanchez thing all year. You think he's gonna stop now? He's a creature of habit. Just keep calm and enjoy the ride.

Nothing like a bad pitcher to wake up the Giants offense? Not only that but Giants fans can hate it because Sanchez got a hit and scored on the Gregor Blanco (WTF) home run SI

I kindof liked Blanco when he was with KC- seemed like a decent CF who could draw a walk. But he also seemed like an extreme slappy, someone who might get 5 homers a year tops.

Has anyone asked Dusty/Jockety why they felt the need to have Valdez and Cairo on the roster instead of having a fifth starter just in case of situations like this? I know Cueto wouldn't be pitching and it probably isn't going to matter anyway but the idea they wouldn't have him in the LCS is poor.

Playoff baseball is so messed up in that a bobbled ball by Rolen can turn this whole series around. It would not be surprising to see the Giants win this thing now.

This has the pace of a Yankees/Red Sox game without the 25 runs.

On a side note, have the home plate umps in the other three series been as brutal as the guys in the Reds/Giants series?
These guys have no clue of the strike zone or how to make a consistent call.

Timmy comes up with the huge K. Hopefully the Giants can get to 5 or 6 runs as I think that is what it will take to get the W today.

Apologies to fans of the respective teams, but these playoffs are going to suck in a hurry if it boils down to DET/NYY/STL/SF.

The only good news is that both Leake and Dondo should be off limits tomorrow.
Topic for future discussion: Who bombed worse, Obama or Reds?

Barring a late comeback, you have the Giants killer in Latos on the mound tomorrow plus a day game where the ball will likely carry which is not good news for Cain who is a flyball pitcher. Still ain't over.

What a game...and what's odd is, this kind of performance is classic 2012 Giants. Get swept at home, scoring next to zero runs, and then go on a massive tear for a week and a half. The Giants on the road this year, when they got hot, were near unstoppable. If Cain and Co. can hold the reds to 3 or less, I think the Giants have the game in the bag.

I'm in row's boat. Everyone is so optimistic, and that just annoys me and I dismiss them as fairweather fans. I know baseball. I know the odds of lighting up Cain 2 starts in a row is very unlikely. We're hitting ok still, but not with RISP. Like 9 LOB after 4 innings? Give me a break. Same shit all season. Squandering our chances.
I'm not ready for baseball to be over tomorrow. |
