Not college (yet) but I thought this fun fact kinda fit in here.

From today's Georgia HS Football Daily newsletter:

When Hillgrove plays at Marietta tomorrow night the game will "feature the state's top two recruits, Hillgrove DE Myles Murphy (No. 1, committed to Clemson) and Marietta TE Arik Gilbert (No. 2, LSU). It will be the first time a Georgia game has featured the state's top two recruits since 2007, when Westlake's Cam Newton faced Creekside's Eric Berry."

Those two guys turned out to be pretty good.

-----
It's actually a pretty good week for stray HS trivia.
Athens Academy will play the first of back to back games at Hebron Christian (regularly scheduled week 9 game tomorrow, region championship crossover game next week). Hebron's head coach is former Indianapolis Colt Jeff Saturday

And in a situation that mirrors college football today, John's Creek will host Alpharetta. JC is led by a QB that transferred from newish upstart Denmark HS ... after Denmark took in a transfer QB from perennial powerhouse Buford.

The 80s throwback uniforms Maryland is wearing today are so much better than the clownsuits they normally wear.

I know it's fun to pick on Frost but I like what he's building...I think they are 1 year away from making major waves.

And they got one of my boys there now to play OL....

Or not.

He is in over his head in the B1G. You cant run his offense very well in this conference.

The Husker message boards are on fire. Their best win of the season in Illinois. LOL

I remember the thread about Urban Meyer being laughed at because he thought his style could win in the SEC.

Frost will get there. Not worried about it.

Go ACC refs. They’ve been bad all game. Missed some bad defensive holding and pass interferences against VT in 4th quarter too.

Defense mentally weak and the offense leaves them on the field too long. They are physically tired in the 4th. B1G West teams grind you down.

He needs to fix the defense and clean up the off the field stuff. He has a lot of work to do with that program.

Im not sure if next year will be any better. And their schedule is not real easy. At NW, at OSU, at Iowa, at Wisconsin and hosting PSU. Thats very tough. Easily could be 5 losses right there. Esp. when the have OSU, PSU, Iowa and Wisconsin in a row in November.

The USC true freshman QB is fantastic. Kid is a playmaker. If you are thinking of watching a game watch USC/Oregon. I really like this USC kid.

NDSU (1) took out SDSU (3) last week to take the Dakota Marker for another year. ESPN was in SD for the game, and NDSU had to overcome to take the game.

This week they take on 5-3 and unranked Bo Pellini and his Youngstown St (they won 59-14 last week) team. It's 56-17 late in the 4th. NDSU has this one in the bag, and is all but set, once again, with 25 new starters, and a Freshman QB to lock down the #1 seed in the FCS tournament one more time.

Not going to make a damn bit of difference to the end result, but Pac-12 refs are a parody of their own terribleness at this point.

I'll just save this and set a reminder for a year...
Dude as long as you've followed college football I'd think you'd realize how quick culture change happens.

Swinney had the first losing season in over a decade his 2nd year at Clemson, year 3 they played a BCS game.

Year two is the worst for a new coach. If he wants to change culture. Year two you have two classes of old guard as upper class leaders. You have one underclass of old guard that arent the new regimes "guys". You have one class of your guys, which is usually not a full class and they aren't mature enough to share your message. Year two is the worst.

I expect major improvement from Nebraska and Arkansas next year...

You can't make an omelette without crashing eggs.

What's ironic is you rail against Ferentz... and that is Iowa's curse. He is above average to pretty good. He will never suck... but he will never be elite either. They fear the temporary suck so they reject the chance to be elite.

HAHA please save this. He is protecting a criminal right now.

The culture is already corrupt.

That 4 game stretch is as tough as any in the nation.

They will be lucky to be 7-5 next season. That is the ceiling.

Reading some stuff from the Omaha paper seem to confirm your thoughts. In that "some" players arent ready to play on a consistent basis and that culture is a work in progress.

7 ceiling?

Purdue (W)
S Dak St(W)
C Mich(W)
Cincy(W)
@Northwestern(50/50)
Illinois(W)
@Rutgers(W)
@Ohio St(L)
Penn St(L)
@Iowa(L)
@Wisky(L)
Minny(W)

I mean even if Nebraska doesnt improve a lot in year 3 they still look like a solid 7 win team. I mean they could possibly lose at home to either Cincy or Minny but Id consider it doubtful especially with Cincy losing a lot and revenge in the Minny game. Same with the Purdue game. Assuming the only home game they lose is Penn St, I can easily see them stealing at least 1 road game out of Northwestern, Ohio St, Iowa, or Wisky which would put them at 8 wins.

Frosts coordinators are not B1G level according to the announcers in Lincoln.

Also, Frost constantly talks about culture. Frost is playing a kid that has been charged with breaking the revenge porn law in Cali and with possession of child pornography. He is accused of keeping and sending a video of his ex-girlfriends sexual assault to her along with the message "Remember this hoe". The video was taken when she was a minor.

Culture starts at the top. Playing this kid is not the way to establish a positive culture.

Dors your culture suck because Pierre Pierce played for Iowa, far more recently than a guy who would have been in his mid 40s?

No, because we got rid of him. We didnt place winning over all else. Kind of like what Frost is doing now with this guy.

When Pete Carroll was winning national titles, he had a couple sexual offenders but his culture was fantastic.

I think you need to get over the small minded message board grandstanding of a rival. We aren't all Iowa fans who through logic out the door because it makes us feel better about ourselves

All schools are more or less the same. It's stupid for any school, including Iowa, to throw stones at another school for arrests and bad behavior. SI's 2011 study had Iowa 2nd in the country in number of players with a record on their roster.

Everyone puts winning above all else unless they feel the bad publicity outweighs it.

LOL. Keep living in the 90s. Nebraska will be a bottom feeder of the weaker West division. Who is going to Nebraska to play? No one. Why would any athletes go to a school in the middle of Nebraska to play for a team that finishes at the bottom of the weak West?

The only way Frost turns that mess around is getting the Tom Osborne play book out.

We Big Ten West fans have been hearing about the impending return of Nebraska national dominance since they joined the Big Ten. This year’s obviously premature talk that they were back kind of exasperated all that.

That said, talk of them being a perennial bottom feeder is just foolish. A return to Bo Pelini type 9-10 win seasons is probably the outcome I see as more likely for Scott Frost. Without the asshattery of Bo Pelini.

Frost scores too quickly and the defense gets hung out to dry. When their defense is on the field for 35 minutes a game and you have an offensive minded coach, 7-8 wins a season will be more likely.

This season was the season the fans were hoping would set the tone. This was an easy schedule. The next 2 years are very tough. And Nebby isnt developmental like Iowa and Wiscy. Frost has to figure how to get guys to Lincoln that are ready to contribute. And thats a hard sell for a coach that will be 8-16 after his first 2 seasons in Lincoln.

Frost has 2 coordinators that are not P5 coordinators. There is a feeling around Lincoln that they cant teach kids. Which as you and I both know is the only way Nebby will be successful.

I may be wrong, but this is stuff coming from Nebby people.

Nebraska fans tend to be pretty irrational in my experience. Talk their team up and when things don’t go their way they want to blow the whole thing up.

On the flip side of surprising. Baylor is undefeated. That was a quick turn around after basically getting the death penalty.

Wait...I'll play along with the delusional stuff for s while..but this is just factually wrong.
Walters was a Bryoles finalist just 2 years ago...has multiple degrees from Stanford and is widely regarded as one of the better teachers in the country .

And I'm shocked you are throwing Chinander under the bus being a Hawkeye...not to mention a highly coveted DC who turned Saban down when Smart left...and another former Broyles finalist.

Not P5 level. Hah. Laughable.

You didnt see Nebraskas defense get lit up by Purdues 3rd string QB?

And the missed tackles. And the quit in them that led to a TD. It was brutal.

I wish the Hogs would do same with Chad Morris. Its Year 2 for him and we've regressed. I think to be fair we should give him through Year 3 but our play has been so awful.

Our QB1 transferred from SMU and is familiar with Morris' gameplan. He just hasn't executed. QB2 showed moments of competency but is going downhill.

Keep living in 90s? Are we living in a bizarre world where YOU didn't bring up Lawrence Phillips?

And the only people who don't think Iowa =\= Nebraska as anything other than a flyover state in the middle of nowhere might be residents of those states. It's like Shaq calling out DeAndre Jordan for being a shitty FT shooter.

You might be the most self aware person on this forum not named Mizzou Bb fan but at least he just ignores points that exposed his takes

Ive said many times Iowa has averaged 7.5 wins a season over the last 20 years. I know what Iowa is.

Nebby fans still think they matter and are a national power. Delusional? Cant be more delusional than that.

Nebby lost to Purdue who was 2-6 playing their 2nd then 3rd string QB.

At least they werent wearing their pirate shirts. HAHHAHAHAHAHA

25? Who we counting as starters here Even with P/K/PR/KR I only get up to 26 possible starters. I guess Long Snapper could be 27?

I think you need to get over the small minded message board grandstanding of a rival. We aren't all Iowa fans who through logic out the door because it makes us feel better about ourselves
One Urban Meyer also comes prominently to mind. Obviously off field culture =/= practice/weight room culture.

Are you just trying to troll or have you legit not watched Nebraska play in the last 5 years?
The year before Frost and Co arrived Nebraska was 116 out of 130 NCAA teams in total defense.
Last year they were 88th in the first year of Frost regime and this year are 76th.
That is with a total new defense alignment and structure and still recruiting their players to their new scheme...and speaking to culture they are starting the Seniors they didn't recruit..to build that culture and heavily subbing in the freshman.

Now Nebraska has not been as good as I expected this year, Ill grant you that. But if youve watched them and dont see them as clearly better than they were 2 years ago...then I cant help you.

Again I believe in Frost, but I believe in Morris also. I think both Arkansas and Nebraska will show significant improvement next year.

Not even comparing them. Just using prominent examples to show that you don't need off field choirboys to have a winning football culture.

You may have done this but just in case ... is it full because of Sent rather than received? (unlike most systems I've seen, this one counts your sent mails toward the limit too)

First time I ever got a limit notice, that confused the hell outta me til I figured it out (mentioning JUST in case)

Yeah, im trolling a bit. Nebby came into the conference acting and saying they would roll the B1G. They still havent realized that the B1G plays defense. And they were in a conference for years with only one other team until Texas joined in 1996.

They feasted on teams. Now they have become the Iowa State of the B1G and still talk trash like they are the best thing since sliced bread. It gets tiresome.

But Im not a Nebraska fan nor is anyone that I can think of in this thread.
I never said Nebraska is a National Power...hell Tom Osbourne broke my heart and let reality smack me in the face. I kinda hated him for it for a long time...

But bury your head or not...given time Frost will be a force to be reckoned with.

I hope they do well. A young man I think a lot of commited to them last year. I think hes going to be a good one in time.

You see, this is where we part ways. Offensively they will be very good, if their players stay. And they may lose 2 RBs after the season.

Defense is stiull secondary. And that wont fly in the B1G. When teams get 35 to 40 minutes a game of possession, it limits how many offensive possessions you have. AND their players are lost right now on offense. There has been a lot of confusion and mental mistakes at the end of year 2.

Im not that impressed with him. Esp. saying he will beat Indiana and Purdue then loses. Which back in the Big 8 would be losing to kansas and kansas st.
