For network/system admins out there, Touchterm seems to be a pretty solid SSH client for iphone. I was able to use it to do some relatively minor router configurations on the road today while traveling.
I don't know that I would use it for complex ACL rules, but in a pinch it worked really well for me. |

cool, let us know your handle on the Plus+ network... or I'll look for a MikeVic Was able to finally finish my first weekly set today. I'm still casually playing, sometimes setting myself to actively pursuing an award or two, or a set when it's within my reach. I also sometimes doesn't touch the frogs for a day and a half... FM

dola, have to reiterate how cool Mirror's Edge is. Maybe it's my martial art background but I find the nautralize opponents while running moves absolutely kickass.

Has anybody tried ZumoCast? I installed the free app last night and so far I'm loving it. You install a program on your pc/mac, do the setup (essentially telling it which folders you want access to on your iPhone) and you can access images, music and movies from your computer through the app (and you can also log into their website on another computer and access the files that way as well).
I originally started off with the freeware version of Video Stream (a new release) with intentions of upgrading to the pay version ($2.99 I think) if it worked well but came across ZumoCast (full version of the app is free) while checking out what other similar type apps are out there and the free app seems to have more functionality than the pay version of Video Stream. So far the only file type that doesn't seem to work is a gif as I've tested music, images and movies (even the clips I've recorded off my HD camcorder play really well). I'm on a 3GS so I don't know how well the HDness of those videos would show on an iPhone 4, but yeah, so far two thumbs up. That said, if you're willing to give it a shot, there is a bonus for getting 5 people to sign up under you (free upgrade to a premium account from what I can tell) so I think this should work as a referral link: ZumoCast - Travis has invited you to join ZumoCast

I like the idea of those programs, but my primary computer is a laptop which i'm not leaving on at home when i'm not there, so it seems pretty pointless.

That part I'm still looking into, but your login is password protected (I know, not the be all, end all) but at least on the phone side of it you can also password protect the app so if somebody is using/looking at your phone, they can't just jump into the app and start messing with your files.
I was hoping to spend more time on their forums today but work has been swamped so that's one of the reasons I posted it here to see if anybody had more practical hands on experience with it than I've had a chance to so far. I do love the fact that it seems to handle a very wide array of file types though.

Not sure ALL of their games are on sale as I saw that both Rock Band games were not, but Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit which was released only a month ago is on sale. Battlefield Bad Company 2 was also released with a price of $0.99 yesterday. FM

another game for which the price has been reduced to $0.99 is Backbreaker 2 Vengeance. Good fun, very, very good visuals. Football game in which you can play as either a ball carrier trying to beat defenders one on one to score a TD or as a defender trying to keep a ball carrier from scoring a TD by tackling him.

picked up FM2011 yesterday although I have yet to spend some time with it. Looks very well done though, very impressive.
Four games I also picked up yesterday, for $0.99 each: Tap Tap Metallica Revenge (was $4.99): was waiting for the price to drop, contains 10 songs I love from Metallica Flick Golf (was $2.99): as the name implies, you flick the ball but the twist is that once it's in the air, you can add spin to it to control the direction. An arcade type of golf game though, more like your are trying to always ace hole in ones, hole after hole. May sound boring but it's addictive as hell. The flag is like a big bullseye and the closer you get to the hole the more points you score. Deadball Specialist (was $1.99): an earlier game by the developper of Flick golf, where you play as a free kick taker in soccer. The easy levels, you simply try to hit a bullseye in goal but higher levels add a wall in front of you and you have to bend the ball over or around the wall to hit that target. Also pretty addictive. Controls are cool. Doodle God (regular price): tried the online version from Jayisgames that was posted in another thread on FOFC and had to get it on my Touch. Very cool and I kept getting back to it, trying to find new combinations and such. Hard to explain, take a look at the online version. The Touch version has 246 elements in 25 categories to discover compared to the 115 in 14 categories of the online version... I will eventually get Doodle Devil... Also, all Tap Tap specific Revenge game are discounted at $0.99 although I'm not sure how many of the Katy Perry or Nickelback version will appeal to the crowd of FOFC, but there's also a Nine Inch Nails game and a Linkin Park game. I think I will pick up the LP one as there are quite a few songs of them I really like although the game features something like 4 songs from their new CD that I have yet to listen to. There's also a Nirvana one, a ColdPlay one and a Dave Matthews Band one, all one sale for $0.99... FM

don't know about anybody else but I guess I was not the only one bothered by the snowflakes while playing Home Run Battle 3D. I would sometimes confuse a big one with the ball. Glad the newest update got rid of them.
I'm still not very good at it but I'm at least touching the ball with regularity. FM

Can any iPad users out there recommend a good RPG? Preferably something easy to pick up and put down, and that doesn't require an internet connection to play. I'm just looking for a little something I can play here and there when I have a few spare minutes, but still feel like I am progressing towards something.

Also if there are Carcassonne players among FOFCers, please PM me your email address so we can get together and play some. I got separate games going with terpkristin and Raiders Army. Going slowly but very smoothly. Don't know about my opponents but I like how it's played. FM

Same kind of big sale for Glu Games. Can't find a comprehensive list at the moment but just saw that the price for The Lord of the Rings: Middle-earth Defense was cut from $6.99 to $0.99 and they mention price cuts of up to 85% on most of their games.
About that LOTR game, I understand it's a kind of tower defense with a LOTR twist and theme... FM

I'd had Canabalt on my AppShopper wish list for some time, hoping for a price drop to pick it up and my wish was granted
Canabalt's price drop to $0.99 is all part of a big indie game sale, check it out here: Indie iPhone Holiday Sale - 6 Games for 99cents - 1/3 to Charity! 6 indie games for sale at $0.99 and 1/3 of the proceeds go to Child's Play Charity. Games are: Osmos Canabalt Drop7 Eliss Solipskier Spider Similar game to Canabalt I also picked up yesterday is Hook Worlds. Also goes for $0.99 and early buyers get an extra fourth world in it. It's a runner type game where your character has a grapple hook with which you swing forward. Every world features a different runner with a special ability. FM

Gameloft have added Spider-Man Total Mayhem to that list of game and I'm pretty happy about that. The free version of that game made one evening at the clinic with my 6yo that much more livable when he was dealing with an ear infection back in November. I wanted to pick it up but with all I've got to play, there was no way I was gonna pay the full $6.99. Sale's apparently going until December 22 which is tomorrow... FM

same question for Hero Project, anybody playing it. I'm not at the moment, but it's a MMORPG with a superhero theme and I thought it looked good. Might give it a go during the holiday break.
One game I will pimp again is Carcassonne, lots of cool, relax, strategic fun. I understand it's now selling for $9.99, but the multiplayer game is a lot of fun. TK and I have found a good rythm where we often play 10-20 turns over an evening. We finished the last 45 turns of our game Monday evening, while I was watching football. A game is 72 turns... FM

Let's see, it's based off a board game. The game is comprised of a tile set of 72 tiles which have features of towns and roads of medieval times. One tile is turned over to start the game and every turn a tile is turned and the player whom it's the turn to play has to place it on the table. That tile must connect with the tile(s) it touches on the table. For example you cannot put a road that ends on the side of town. At the end of his turn the player can put one of his meeples (colored people piece) on a feature of the tile he just placed. Your goal is to try and score point by finishing roads, towns, encircling fields before the game is over. You still get points at the end of the game if the town is not finished by then, but by then it's only 1 point per tile while if you finish it during the course of the game, it's two points per tile. Also, one more reason why you want to finish them is that you only have 7 meeples to last the whole game but once the town or road is finished, you get your meeple back and you can use it elsewhere. Hard to explain but it's about it. As the game unfolds, there are towns that are unfinished with room to be finished and some that you can block the finishing of, thus costing your opponent some points. Had a game with TK where I had this big town, like 9 or 10 tiles scattered next to one another and it stayed there for like 15 turns before I was able to get the one tile to close it and boom, got 20 points there. The iPhone game also has a solitaire version of the game where you start with a given tile set, i.e. a specific order in which the tiles will always come out. You try to make towns and roads of size 2, then 3, then 4, then 5, then 6. Once you get to 6 in both town and road, you have won the game. Thing is you start with 1000 points and points are deducted to your total on every tile you place. Deduction is equal to the addition of the width to the height of your total tile placement, forcing you to try to keep everything as tight as possible. I've played maybe 7-8 solitaire game and have succeeded only the last 2 times. You can also play it with 1 to 4 other AI players, all with varying difficulty levels. A game of that type plays in about 10-20 minutes for me. The online game is done with push notifications and it works very well. You play your turn and wait to get push notified that the other has done his/hers. There are no time limit when you instigate a game with a friend and that was cool since TK went to London last week and was not able to play for some days yet we kept the game crawling and finished it over the weekend. There's also and quick online type of games but I have yet to try it. Maybe during the holiday break when I have some time to sit down and play uninterrupted. Again, I know the $9.99 price point is a bit high given the iPhone market, but this a very well done game... FM

Thanks for that, sounds interesting. You are right though I think I'll hold off for now because of the price tag. I just spent on a bunch of 99cent deals, and would like to try to check out all of those games before getting new ones. Definitely something I'll think about in the future or especially if it goes on sale.

Not too sure it'll be on sale soon. It had been selling for $4.99 for a long time and they had advertised that the price would go up to $9.99 when the app would go universal. I'm kinda pissed at myself for not promoting it more when it was still selling for $4.99 but I bought the game maybe a week before the price went up and I really didn't know much about it. I doubt I would have been able to write what I just wrote to clearly explain what the game is about (as clear as the giberrish I wrote above can sound to anyone but me ). I'll keep an eye on it and if the price ever drops back, I'll make sur to pimp it again. FM

I had some iTunes credit from a gift card earlier but that's over with so now I've given myself a rule of nothing more than 99cents and it has to be a good deal.

I quit playing We Rule when they changed it into We Rule Quests. It was just way too slow and buggy on my iPhone 3G. Even my girlfriend, who loved We Rule, stopped playing We Rule Quests. In addition to the overall slowness neither of us were fans of the "quests" changes.

I'll buy Carcassone when the price drops. $10 is just too rich for my blood for a game I've never played that doesn't even have a lite version you can try.
