If I get this year's version, I'm conflicted. I put so many hours into a career just to get through about a decade, my longest career. I dont want to miss any features but at the same time might enjoy a faster paced game.

I have mixed feelings about it.

The pros:
- The Skin is really really great, love the newspaper, the players pages, etc. I have read that we can use the skin in FM full mode too, somebody has posted it at the si forums, need to test it.

- Avoiding 99% of media interaction, you are just asked a question once in a while, instead of 3 press interviews per week that are boring and repetitive and add little to the game.

- The speed, you fly through seasons, specially if you use the instant result button (i don't, i like to watch the highlights as I like to be a coach and manager, not just the manager).

- Simplified training (for those that prefer it, for me is a con). You just have a general training schedule for all the players + match preparation. Players learn new positions by playing them in those positions (if they are good at learning them).

- Simplified scouting and coaching, you only sign a head scout and head coach, instead of several scouts and coaches.

- No opposition instructions before and during games. While I think it's realistic to tell you players that they should press more or mark tightly one of the opposite players, but the OI about showing player X to his right or left feet it's something i really doubt is told to players at the pro level. I ended leaving those to my Assistant manager, so seeing them gone is not a big issue.

The cons:
- Moral managing. As there are no team talks and no way to talk with your players, if you lose games and your players moral goes down, the only thing you can do is to try to win games, but it can become a downwards spiral if you can't win. I also enjoy telling my players that they are playing like shit and need to step up, and seeing them doing it
This is the biggest issue for me.

- You can only load 3 nations and small database, that i find very limiting.

- No u-18 teams, you have only the main and reserves team where both your backups and young kids play together.

- Simplified training, I like to have more control on what each player trains and to shape my young kids for my team, so i prefer the full training, where i can decide what each player tries to improve, to learn ppm, new positions, etc.

- No tutors, i like my young players to learn from the vets.

Resume:

I'm enjoying it, but when i play FMC i'm all the time thinking if i should go back to Fat FM for the full experience, but when i play FAT and need to answer the same questions 3 times per week to the press, i think i should play FMC

As i said, one big problem i see in FMC is the lack of interaction with my players, to boost their moral or to lower their complacency if needed. I think players managing is a very important part of sports coaching, and it's one of the things i have always enjoyed in FM.

Also I have the feeling that the limit to 3 nations loaded and small database could affect realism over long term saves, as non active nations/leagues/teams in FM are less active in the transfer market, etc.

FMC would be perfect for me with no nations loaded limit (at the cost of speed, but let me chose it) and with some kind of interaction with my players to manage moral, even if it's not ass deep as in fat version as it's probably overdone in the last FM versions.

I'm enjoying FMC, although I still don't have much of a clue what I'm doing.. but at least there are less choices to make.

I'm starting at the bottom and learning from there.

Don't like seeing that about Italian tax level fixes in new games. Means I might just have to start my career over.

Every year I end up buying but also ended up disappointed with how the MLS works. Any MLS guys know how it is looking this year? Are there a good players being released on waivers? Any issue with coaches being fired for no reason? Etc?

im playing im MLS, and it seems to be working much better than in previous versions. no you dont come under fire for being good like in last few versions, and to tell you the truth not many MLS coaches get fired during the season. and i dont see hardly any good players being waived. i do see a few prospects getting released but that hasnt happened since last patch

Oh yeah? Is it fixable with editor? That'd be sweet. I hadn't realized that.

Easily. For me just the improved match engine and database make the game worth full price. It's probably cheaper now and there were some other good changes/additions. Being able to hit "instant result" (even in normal mode with the right skin) to skip less important matches and get through seasons quicker is great.

There ought to be a torrent of it out there.

I have a stable version of the like...2011 or 2010 faces megapack which still works fine (albeit the pictures are a bit old now). How to get it to you...now that's a trickier one...dropbox doesn't like when I make multi-GB files available in my public folder apparently...hmm

You cant' bypass the error when unzipping? I bought the sortitout premium membership this year to support their effort in putting this out and to get the faster d'load time. My file also showed an error when trying to unzip. Not sure if I used winzip or winrar but IIRC I hit a button to continue unzipping even though there was an error and the pack unzipped fine with no issues using it in game.

FWIW I think the makers of the set recommend using 7zip(?) if you have issues. Have never done so myself as I've always gotten it to unzip with what I already have.

Hope that is of some help.

Are you using Winzip to unpack the files? I remember from previous years I think I had to use 7Zip to unpack them without errors because Winzip would corrupt the config.xml files for some reason.

Thanks guys,

Hi, it's been a couple of weeks since the last post in this thread and I was just wondering how you all like the game after an extended period of play. Are there any glaring problems at this point? What do you like best about it compared to FM 2010 (the most recent version I own.)?

Thanks

31 games into this league season in Serie A. Already clinched the league (in game 31), still undefeated - 28 wins, 3 draws, no defeats. +60 goal differential (69 scored, only 9 conceded).

Still in the Champions League...pondering whether to go for the undefeated season or rest some key guys for upcoming CL semis...

Best part - Inter are in the drop zone (although only on goal differential at this point).

nope!!

Not at all. I've just built myself a kickass team with a great tactic that is super-stout defensively. (5-3-2 with a ton of money spent in defense, a DMC, a BWM and a B2B midfielder), and I play a controlled, possession game.

No doubt it helps that I sold out $122m worth of players this season and brought in $142m (including Cavani and Marc-Andre ter Stegen). The vast majority of the 33 players I've bought ($304m) have been on defense. Note that I also sold $218m worth of players, so I haven't been just been spending wildly (all totals covering all 4 years so far).

Hot damn - that was a hell of a season I just finished. Definitely one of, if not outright my best (in terms of points) in the last 4-5 versions of FM.

I imagine that back in my 2001-2002 type days I might have exceeded it, when I had my nasty Rosenborg team that had Kennedy Bakircioglu etc. and dominated the world from Norway, but not since then. Rarely will I actually achieve that 100pt level - I can probably count the number of times on one hand across all versions. Doing it while remaining undefeated, and winning 6 titles (league, champions league, club world championship, league cup, league super cup, european super cup) in one season...yikes. I wasn't sure I had the depth to be honest.

I think my final GF/GA was 70-something/low teens. I actually did lose one game during the course of the year - a 2-1 defeat to Dortmund in my CL group.

Fitting way to send Buffon off into retirement though - even though he was a backup to ter Stegen this season he still got in a handful of games (not sitting in front of my savegame, but maybe a dozen?), and started his last ever home game on matchday 37. Hell - I even brought him on as a sub in the 80th minute of the CL final against ManU so that he'd be on the field to celebrate that.

"toned down poor decision long shots" sounds particularly encouraging, given that that's been my main issue with the match engine this time round.

Hey Marc (if you're still reading this), is the continual loan offers bug when they don't have enough funds to complete the loan fixed?

Basically, a team will offer to loan a player from you and pay you (either on loan fee, or % of salary), then when the deal is accepted and the player agrees to go on loan, it breaks down because the other team doesn't have funds to complete the deal.. then they make the exact same offer again... and again... and again

People who start games now with the transfer patch are wankers.

They ought to start with beginning of the season rosters so it's more realistic and all.

Strangely, that coincides exactly with their return to form. No, you don't get a pass for that.
