To win, nay, to sweep a Triple Crown race and, yet, to be disappointed. Aye, there's the rub. What can you say. We won, we placed, we showed, and yet it is a bit empty after all as our dream of a BL Triple Crown win is over. It's a long time until Artisanale and next year's group get to go after this dream once more.

---> Favorite is ranked #3 in the classification of biggest prize winners** in her category once more.

---> Feline is ranked #5 in the classification of biggest prize winners** in her category once more.

---> Almighty Farms has moved into the top ten for all time leading stables in total gains at #9 with $12,544,328. The top stable has $21+ million.

---> Let's see. We sweep the Preakness but fame stays at 82 and ranking falls another spot to a tie at #29.

**Remember it changes weekly and the game gives no listing for us to write up, ergo the constant back and forth in rank between whichever horse has a good showing that week.

Actually, condors, when we first bought PT, I looked at her stats and her discipline compared to where BL started and assumed PT would end as the better horse. Of course, at this point, the ones that keep racing after this year (as 4-year olds) will have 99 ratings across the board eventually.

How disappointing. However, as long as one of the AF horses won, it can't be too bad a day.

---> Joyful Berry has moved to Level III as a result of her latest race gains (actually last week, but I didn't notice).

---> Fame remains at 82 and the yo-yo trip in the stable rankings continues as we move back up a spot to 28th.

---> The Belmont Stakes is actually 6-12-05, not 6-05-05 as previously mentioned. See below for a query on what to do.

What would you do?

We seem to be in a bit of a quandry about the week of the Belmont now that BL cannot win The Triple Crown. The thing is that the purse for Triple Crown races is $1 million, but there is another race that weekend at Ascot that has a much bigger purse- $1.5 million+, actually.

Since she can't win The Triple Crown anymore, do you run BL in the international race with more money and, one supposes, prestige, or do you put her in the Belmont anyway?

Remember also that we have lots of other entries to try to win the 3rd leg of the Triple Crown. What do you think?

I go with BL for the international affair. She is the most famous horse in the world... actually, I would send BL and PT over there to strut their stuff. Since neither one can win the triple crown.

Don't know why, but Little has few races at this time to choose from so she will get some much needed training.

My suggestion is to send Feline and Imperatrice in the Belmont, since neither has won a Triple Crown race, and send both PT and BL after the money at Ascot.

5-29-05: Race Day- Damn Hattrick

In the middle of the 3rd of the 3 races to be run for the day, my computer crashed because the stupid Criolo Viewer program used to 'watch' Hattrick games had a fatal error at about 6:03pm central when the program tried to access the internet Hattrick site. Don't know if it is a problem with Criolo vs. the Final Stretch game or what, but, as mentioned previously, there is no save after you start the first in a series of races, so all race details were lost.

Since I was pissed as hell, I just reran the races (with new fields, odds and results, etc.., of course, as the game generates randomly, not fixed for a specific race) without writing notes.

6-05-05: News Flash...

---> Artisanale has become the latest Almighty Farms horse to reach the magical Level 1 International ranking, qualifying her to run overseas as well as the Triple Crown races.

We at Almighty Farms congratulate all our staff and supporters for their part in this great accomplishment.

We weren't even aware that she was closing in on this milestone or we would have advertised the fact. Too much comotion with all the big races.

(FYI, Artis would have won $19,960 for second place had the foul-up and rerunning of the race not occured. That would also have put her over the line for advancement.)

BTW, Artisanale is eligible for international races in terms of Level status. However, she is still only 2 years old and, as such, is not able to be entered in the Triple Crown and other prestige races.

In short, she is in limbo until 2006 like BL was for many months with races few and far between.

Berry is in a pretty stinky field. All entries are Level III with ratings in the 40s and 50s. She starts from post position 5, which is a good place to be in this game, generally.

Berry breaks cleanly from the starting gate and immediately takes control. She leads by a neck over Echo Des Femmes down the back straight and extends to 1 length over Echo with 500m to go. With 400m left, Echo actually takes the lead after a whipping, but Robin whips Berry right back with 300m to go and she regains first by 3/4. Berry cannot be caught today as she wins the race, albeit by only 1/2 length on Fabuleux Delight.

Horses are 6 wide down the track, including Artis on the outside. As they go to the rail, Artis is in second but she slips to the rail behind the leader and is immediately pinned there by third place Kid. Calliope Bar leads into the final turn but Shilver My Decision is first on the whip and takes the lead by 1/2 on Calliope as Artis is still stuck and drops 2 lengths back in fifth. Calliope regains the lead on Gaelic with 200m left as Artis finally is free of traffic but in fifth place with ground to make up. Almighty Farms Entry: BL, PT

Site: Tokyo

Length: 1600m, considered an average race.

Weather: Sunny.

Track: Surface is firm.

Surface: Horses will be running on a grass track.

Purse: Total prize money is $1,600,000
  1. $800,000
  2. $320,000
  3. $192,000
  4. $128,000
  5. $96,000
  6. $64,000
We know the Belmont is next week, or the other race for big bucks, but BL and PT always are able to hold their form the week after a race, so we feel there is not any big negative to running here.

Another head-to-head with BL and PT. It looks promising at first with the pair in post positions #1 and #2. However, we don't really like the inside in this game. It is too easy to get pinned to the rail by horses that get a huge start (for whatever reason), and there are some about 50% of the time. We would actually prefer to start from position #4 or #5 if given a choice in every race as those horses generally are in the pack that often is lined up off the rail.

Of course, that is part of the drama, getting stuck but firing out when the break in the line starts to come in the last several hundred meters. We'll see, and hope for a good ride.

One of the widest gaps, if not the widest, we have seen in one of these Internationals. If Almighty Farms can stay out of trouble, it should be a good day.

No perfect score in this one and Valley's only good stat is endurance, though this is not a long race so that is not as important, we would think, as speed and acceleration.

These are the favorites in the race based on a simple point system from the bookies and race mags. BL is the favorite of the racing community, though the bettors have her only 3rd favorite in the odds.

Anyway, based on post position and statistical analysis (or wishful thinking), Almighty Farms has placed the following wagers:

Wager
Horse
Amount
Win
BL
$2,000,000
Place
PT
$2,000,000
Quinella
BL, PT
$500,000
The quinella is like the dual place bet we have made before, where we predict the 1-2 finish. It just is a cooler name for it.

The Race:

Out of the gate Tad takes the lead followed by Naomi du Breil, Deesse de Suede and Western Darkness. BL is ninth and PT tenth.

Down the back straight Deesse takes over with Kalin Muse second and Salem third. BL is still ninth and PT drops to twelfth.

Around the final turn Deesse still in control by 1/2 over Western with third place Kalin 1 length back. BL is up to seventh on the outside while PT is now tenth.

With 500m left in the race, Western passes Deesse for first by 3/4 as Kalin drops to fourth behind third place Valley. BL remains in seventh, 3 back and PT can not muster a charge as of yet, remaining tenth.

Passing the 400m pole, Western leads Deesse by 1/2 and Valley by 1 length but BL starts her charge, moving to fourth past fifth place Kalin. PT is out of it in twelfth.

300m to the line, Western, Deesse and Valley move stride for stride, 3 wide across the grass, 3/4 in front of BL with Naomi fifth and PT dropping to thirteenth.

Down to 200m to go. Valley moves in front of Deesse by 1/2 but BL is now third. Western falters to fourth, just ahead of Naomi and Salem.

100m from the finish line BL moves even with Valley in front. Deesse drops to third, 1 length back while Naomi passes Western for fourth.

With just 50m to go, Risdale times his whip perfectly and BL bolts to a 3/4 length lead on Valley with Naomi moving to third ahead of Deesse and Western.

At the wire, it's Beautiful Ladonia with the win by 1 1/2 lengths on Valley, Naomi finishing third and Deesse coming in fourth.

An excellent race for BL as she was in trouble there for a bit and was forced outside when others got a better start and had her on the rail for a bit. PT, on the other hand, never was a factor at all. That is especially crappy as the 3rd-6th place finishers were all in outside post positions and made up the ground with fast starts out of the gate, though their acceleration isn't what PT's is. Oh well, there is always, at least in this case, next week.

---> The Belmont is this week. We will see if Almighty Farms can sweep the Triple Crown with 3 different entries winning the races. We will send BL and PT to the Ascot race to go for the bigger purse.

---> No change in either fame score or stable ranking. I don't really know how the fame score works but, at this point, with Almighty Farms winning big races, plus with our top 10 ranking in gains earned, I am guessing that you score better with more horses in your stable. If not, we may never get to the top.
