Dallas has made a few minor free agent signings but have opted to build from within. It's nice to see.
Crosby, as the draft file shows, is still the class of his draft year but hasn't dominated so far. He suffered a torn ACL last season which limited his totals to 6 goals and 13 assists in 46 games. He's 22, 6'0", 224lbs. and his main attributes are influence (19), stamina (19), flair (18) and off the puck (18). |

------------------------- Dallas signs D Bryan McCabe (34) from NY Rangers for $8.5 million/2 years. Ottawa signs D Tom Poti (32) from NY Rangers for $11 million/2 years. Carolina signs Adam Foote (38) as an Assistant Coach. Toronto trades G Jeff-Drouin Deslauriers (25) to Dallas for D Ryan Hill (21). Florida trades F Cody Bass (22) to Boston for F Dmitry Afanasenkov (29). Chicago trades the rights to G Jussi Salo (18) to Carolina for D Joey Tetarenko (31). Pittsburgh trades F Toby Petersen (30) to Ottawa for F Chad Morin (21). NY Islanders sign D Willie Mitchell (32) from Minnesota for $7.2 million/2 years. Pittsburgh trades F Ryan Malone (29) to Colorado for F Devin Setoguchi (22). Former Flame scout Bob Atrill (56) who would not re-sign with us (I assumed he wanted to step up to coaching) has signed as a scout with Toronto. Colorado sign D Jason Smith (35) from Tampa Bay for $4.5 million/1 year. NY Rangers sign D Andrei Zyuzin (31) from Minnesota for $6.8 million/2 years. Philadelphia sign D Bryan Berard (32) from St. Louis for $7.5 million/2 years. NY Islanders sign F Steve Begin (31) from Chicago for $3.3 million/2 years. Philadelphia sign D Ruslan Salei (34) from NY Islanders for $3.5 million/1 year. Tampa Bay sign D Radek Martinek (33) from Montreal for $6.8 million/2 years. Vancouver sign F Aaron Asham (31) from NY Islanders for $6 million/2 years. Los Angeles sign D John Jakopin (31) from Toronto for $9.3 million/3 years. Prospect Game 1: Calgary 3 vs. S.A.I.T. 1 (*Jaroslav Markovic, **Scott McCulloch, ***Fredrik Naslund) Prospect Game 2: Calgary 4 vs. Mount Royal 0 (*Kris Chucko, **Brent Morin, ***Jaroslav Markovic) Prospect Game 3: Calgary 8 vs University of Calgary 1 (*Brett Sutter, **Jordan McLean, ***Kim Huse) Exhibition Game 1: Colorado 2 @ Calgary 3 (*Scott McCulloch, **Niklas Persson, ***Adam Deadmarsh) Exhibition Game 2: Minnesota 1 @ Calgary 3 (*Chuck Kobasew, **Fredrik Naslund, ***David Tanabe) CGY F Niklas Persson (30) will be out 3 weeks with a pulled hamstring. Exhibition Game 3: Calgary 6 @ Edmonton 3 (*Rostislav Olesz, **Fredrik Naslund, ***Ivo Ruthemann) I sign former Islander great, Billy Smith (58), as a goalie coach and fired my current conditioning-based coach. The reason for this move is because I am forced to carry three goalies. My first round pick G Antti Hagman (20) cannot be sent to juniors and if I send him to the minors he won't get any playing time. I hope both of these issues are fixed in the next version. As a result, I plan on playing Hagman in about 15-20 games this year. Exhibition Game 4: Edmonton 2 @ Calgary 4 (*Fredrik Naslund, **Eric Brewer, ***Jarome Iginla) CGY F Chuck Kobasew (27) will be out 10 days with a groin strain. Exhibition Game 5: Calgary 4 @ Vancouver 2 (*Jarome Iginla, **Ivo Ruthemann, ***Shane Doan) Exhibition Game 6: Vancouver 3 @ Calgary 2 (*Chris Nielsen, **Jarome Iginla, ***Ivo Ruthemann) NHL Waiver Draft Florida selects D Anton Kadekin (25) from New Jersey. NY Rangers select G Jamie Storr (33) from Boston. Atlanta selects F James Neal (24) from San Jose. Calgary selects D Shea Weber (24) from Nashville. Calgary selects F Jordin Tootoo (26) from Minnesota. Calgary selects F Clarke MacArthur (24) from Buffalo. All three players are guys I've tried to trade for several times without success. I place D Grant Lewis (24) on waivers. |

-------------------------- Roster: Ivo Ruthemann (32) - Brad Richards (29) - Jarome Iginla (32) Fredrik Naslund (23) - Rostislav Olesz (23) - Chuck Kobasew (27) Jens Jacobs (24) - Mike Fisher (29) - Jaroslav Markovic (24) Kris Chucko (23) - Niklas Persson (30) - Marcus Nilson (31) Clarke MacArthur (24) - Jordin Tootoo (26) Dion Phaneuf (24) - David Tanabe (29) Paul Mara (30) - Rhett Warrener (33) Mikael Svensk (26) - Shea Weber (24) Andy Rogers (23) Miikka Kiprusoff (32) Marco Buhrer (29) Antti Hagman (20) Game 1: Edmonton 2 @. Calgary 2 (*Paul Mara, **Jordin Tootoo, ***Eric Brewer) Columbus have claimed D Grant Lewis (24) from waivers. Game 2: Chicago 4 @ Calgary 6 (*Jarome Iginla, **Ivo Ruthemann, ***Brad Richards) F Jarome Iginla (32) had 4 goals and 1 assist. G Marco Buhrer (30) got a '5' rating and an official warning which he feels was unfair. Game 3: San Jose 4 @ Calgary 2 (*Sheldon Souray, **Marco Sturm, ***Radoslav Suchy) I place F Marcus Nilson (31) on waivers. I need to clear a roster spot for G Antti Hagman (20). I want Hagman to push Kiprusoff and Buhrer who have sucked throughout the pre-season and the first three games. It's time to shake things up in goal. There are a couple of free agents available but those would only be lateral moves. I'd rather build from within. If that fails, I'll try and make a trade. Game 4: Calgary 6 @ Columbus 4 (*Rick Nash, **Chuck Kobasew, ***Dion Phaneuf) Antti Hagman (20) gets the win in his first NHL start but only gets a '5' rating. Vancouver trades G Tomas Popperle (25) to Detroit for the rights to F Eric Lapointe (18), a 4th Round Pick in 2010 and a 4th Round Pick in 2011. Game 5: Calgary 5 @ Detroit 3 (*Niklas Persson, **Danius Zubrus, ***Peter Guggisberg) Columbus have claimed F Marcus Nilson (31) from waivers. Game 6: Calgary 4 @ Los Angeles 1 (*Marco Buhrer, **Rostislav Olesz, ***Taylor Pyatt) D Mikael Svensk (26) will be out for a week with a twisted knee. Rick Nash (Cbs) wins Offensive Player of the Week. Ed Jovanovski (Van) wins Defensive Player of the Week. Washington trades D Denis Grebeshkov (25) and a 5th Round Pick in 2010 to Florida for a 2nd Round Pick in 2010. Game 7: Carolina 1 @ Calgary 5 (*Rhett Warrener, **Peter Sejna, ***Ian White) D Rhett Warrener (33) had a goal and three assists. Game 8: Ottawa 6 @ Calgary 1 (*Marian Hossa, **Kristian Huselius, ***Paul Mara) G Antti Hagman (20) got his second start. It will be his last. I demote G Antti Hagman (20) to Las Vegas of the ECHL. Carolina's first round pick G Michael McKay (20) is eating up minutes with Lowell of the AHL so Hagman won't get any playing time there. For some stupid reason, the ECHL team plays no names in goal who don't have a chance and have worse attributes. Marian Hossa (Ott) wins Offensive Player of the Week. Mattias Ohlund (Van) wins Defensive Player of the Week. Game 9: Calgary 3 @ Nashville 2 (*Ivo Ruthemann, **Jens Jacobs, ***Ryan Smyth) F Tomi Kallio (Phi) will be out 5 months with a separated shoulder. I make G Miikka Kiprusoff (32) available. He's an UFA after this season and not the man to take us to the promised land. Game 10: Calgary 4 @ Chicago 2 (*Rostislav Olesz, **Matt Keith, ***Clarke MacArthur) D Paul Mara (30) will be out a few days with anterio knee pain. F Niklas Persson (30) will be out for a week with a shoulder contusion. Game 11: Detroit 3 @ Calgary 4 (*Kris Chucko, **Rostislav Olesz, ***Pavel Trnka) F Chuck Kobasew (27) is out for 3 weeks with a pulled groin. G Marco Buhrer (30) has won the starting job from Kiprusoff. I recall F David Laliberte (23) from the AHL. Game 12: Vancouver 1 @ Calgary 3 (*Marco Buhrer, **Ed Jovanovski, ***Rostislav Olesz) D Mikael Svensk (26) will be out a few days with a stubbed finger. Toronto sign F Brendan Morrison (34) from Vancouver for $6.25 million/1 year. Nathan Horton (Fla) wins Offensive Player of the Week. Jimmy Howard (SJ) wins Defensive Player of the Week. Marian Hossa (Ott) wins Offensive Player of the Month. Ed Jovanovski (Van) wins Defensive Player of the Month. Shawn Anderws (Stl) wins Rookie of the Month. Game 13: St. Louis 2 @ Calgary 0 (*Nikolai Khabibulin, **Brian Rolston, ***Ales Kotalik) G Miikka Kiprusoff (33) will be out 3 weeks with a hip flexor strain suffered in practice. I recall G Antti Hagman (20) from the ECHL. Game 14: Buffalo 1 @ Calgary 4 (*Rostislav Olesz, **Jordin Tootoo, ***Ivo Ruthemann) G Antti Hagman (20) faced only 14 shots for his second NHL victory. F Jens Jacobs (24) will be out for a week after suffering a shoulder contusion in practice. Scott Hartnell (Nsh) wins Offensive Player of the Week. Doug Lynch (Edm) wins Defensive Player of the Week. Columbus trades G Logan Klimosko (22), a 2nd Round Round Pick in 2010 and a 3rd Round Pick in 2011 to Buffalo for G Jeff Glass (23). Game 15: Calgary 1 @ Dallas 4 (*Jakub Sindel, **Chris Drury, ***Marty Turco) Tampa Bay have signed F Dave Scatchard (33) from NY Islanders for $6.2 million/2 years. I demote F David Laliberte (23) to the AHL and promote F Scott McCulloch (23). Minnesota trades D Patrick McNeil (22), a 2nd Round Pick in 2010 and a 3rd Round Pick in 2011 to Dallas for G Maxime Ouellett (28) and a 5th Round Pick in 2010. Game 16: Calgary 2 @ Phoenix 4 (*Denis Grot, **Dustin Brown, ***Keith Ballard) G Antti Hagman (20) actually played well in a loss and got a '7' rating. I recall F Jordan McLean (22) from Lowell. Game 17: Colorado 3 @ Calgary 2 (*Daniel Alfredsson, **Jed Ortmeyer, ***Ivo Ruthemann) Jarret Stoll (Chi) wins Offensive Player of the Week. Kyle McLaren (SJ) wins Defensive Player of the Week. |

------------------------------- Game 18: Chicago 2 @ Calgary 4 (*Brad Richards, **Paul Mara, ***Ivo Ruthemann) Game 19: Nashville 2 @ Calgary 6 (*Jaroslav Markovic, **Fredrik Naslund, ***Ivo Ruthemann) Justin Williams (Car) wins Offensive Player of the Week. Marc-Andre Fleury (Pit) wins Defensive Player of the Week. F Chuck Kobasew (27) is now fully healthy. I demote F Jordan McLean (22). Chicago trades F Steve Ott (27) to Anaheim for F Mario McCormick (22), the rights to F Don Murray (19) and a 3rd Round Pick in 2010. Ott always plays well against us and was a guy I had interest in. Game 20: Phoenix 3 @ Calgary 5 (*Jarome Iginla, **Ivo Ruthemann, ***Ladislav Nagy) Game 21: Calgary 2 @ Montreal 7 (*Nikos Dimitrakos, **Kimmo Timmonen, ***Todd Bertuzzi) G Marco Buhrer (30) lets in 6 goals on 16 shots and gets a '4' rating. I fine him 1 weeks' wages and he accepts his fine without comment. G Antti Hagman (20) lets in 1 goal on 11 shots and gets an '8' rating in relief. Game 22: Calgary 4 @ Boston 0 (*Jarome Iginla, **Marco Buhrer, ***Paul Mara) F Jarome Iginla (32) got all four goals. Game 23: Calgary 5 @ St. Louis 1 (*Chuck Kobasew, **Brad Richards, ***Shea Weber) Simon Gagne (Phi) wins Offensive Player of the Week. Cory Sarich (TB) wins Defensive Player of the Week. G Miikka Kiprusoff (33) is now healthy. I demote G Antti Hagman (20) to the ECHL. Game 24: Calgary 1 @ Columbus 4 (*Nikolai Zherdev, **Konstantin Barulin, ***Jason King) Game 25: Los Angeles 0 @ Calgary 3 (*Ivo Ruthemann, **Brad Richards, ***Miikka Kiprusoff) Washington trades the rights to D Hakan Juhlin (18) to Colorado for F Nick Fugere (24). Todd Bertuzzi (Mtl) wins Offensive Player of the Month. Brent Seabrook (Chi) wins Defensive Player of the Month. Brian Turner (Cbs) wins Rookie of the Month. Forget about Crosby. F Brian Turner (19) is the next one. He has 34 points in 27 games, a 7.67 AvR and is third is league scoring. Good news. Now that Hagman has played 6 NHL games, his reputation is high enough that the ECHL team is playing him regularly. I still don't know if I want to keep Kiprusoff. Game 26: Colorado 3 @ Calgary 3 (*Jarome Iginla, **Milan Hejduk, ***Alex Tanguay) F Rostislav Olesz (24) will be out 10 days after suffering a neck strain in practice. F Scott McCulloch (23) will be out for a week after suffering a thigh strain in practice. Brendan Morrow (Dal) wins Offensive Player of the Week. Keith Ballard (Pho) wins Defensive Player of the Week. I recall D Chris Zarb (24) and F Jordan McLean (22) from Lowell. Game 27: Calgary 2 @ Phoenix 4 (*Martin St. Louis, **Jordan McLean, ***Denis Grot) Game 28: Calgary 2 @ Anaheim 4 (*Valeri Bure, **Mark Parrish, ***Nick Boynton) Game 29: Anaheim 1 @ Calgary 3 (*Niklas Persson, **Marco Buhrer, ***Jaroslav Markovic) F Jarome Iginla (32) signs a 3 year contract extension worth $21 million. It was less than he was looking for but what made the deal was a no-trade clause. Game 30: Dallas 4 @ Calgary 4 (*Eric Daze, **Fredrik Naslund, ***Tim Gleason) Buhrer got a '5' rating and a warning which he felt was unfair. D Paul Mara (30) will be out 2 months with a dislocated shoulder. I sign F Derek MacKenzie (28) from Grand Rapids of the AHL. I place F Clarke MacArthur (24) on waivers. He clears and is re-assigned to Lowell. Anson Carter (Buf) wins Offensive Player of the Week. Janne Niinimaa (Buf) wins Defensive Player of the Week. Game 31: Columbus 0 @ Calgary 3 (*Miikka Kiprusoff, **Fredrik Naslund, ***Niklas Persson) D David Tanabe (29) will be out 10 days with a twisted knee. ------------------------------- Game 33: Calgary 2 @ Los Angeles 4 (*Radim Vrbata, **Alexander Frolov, ***Dion Phaneuf) BUF D Jeff Jilson (29) is out of action for 6 months after undergoing surgery to repair a dislocated shoulder. Game 34: Calgary 0 @ Nashville 2 (*Jay Pandolfo, **Miikka Kiprusoff, ***Steve Montador) Vincent Lecavalier (TB) wins Offensive Player of the Week. Kari Lehtonen (Atl) wins Defensive Player of the Week. Calgary trades G Miikka Kiprusoff (33) to Toronto for G Shane Hamilton (18). Hamilton has been backing up G Brian Boucher (32) in Toronto. Hamilton was selected 7th overall in the latest draft. He's played 19 games so far, and faired much better than Hagman. This reduces my payroll and I get strong value in return for a pending UFA. Plus, I am now deep in goal with prospects. Toronto is making a run for the playoffs and wanted a legitimate starter. I'm currently in fifth place and wanting to make as much money as possible this year in hopes that ownership increases the player budget. NY Islanders trade F Trent Hunter (29) to Boston for the rights to F Niklas Larsson (18). The Edmonton Oilers are growing impatient with GM Darryl Sutter (51). Game 35: Calgary 4 @ San Jose 1 (*Marco Buhrer, **Jarome Iginla, ***Mike Fisher) Game 36: Calgary 2 @ Colorado 3 (OT) (*Peter Forsberg, **Jed Ortmeyer, ***Brad Richards) D David Tanabe (29) is now fully healthy. Janne Niskala (Buf) wins Defensive Player of the Week. Game 37: Calgary 3 @ Edmonton 2 (OT) (*David Tanabe, **Martin Lapointe, ***Jarome Iginla) G Shane Hamilton (18) makes 23 saves and gets an '8' rating for his first win as a Flame. G Miikka Kiprusoff (33) has let in 15 goals in his last three starts for Toronto. I sign my latest first round pick, F Robert Petrik (18). He probably could have played this year but when I offered him a contract in the off-season, he didn't have a release clause. A couple of elite Euro teams were interested in him and I didn't want to have him bogged down overseas. His attributes make him my #1 left winger but we'll see. I recall D Chris Zarb (24) and place F Jens Jacobs (24) on waivers. He clears and is assigned to the AHL. Game 38: Calgary 2 @ Minnesota 3 (*Marty Murray, **Ivo Ruthemann, ***Brent Burns) D Rhett Warrener (33) will be out 3 months after suffering a partially torn ACL. I recall D Mark Cormier (21) from Lowell. I make F Chuck Kobasew (27) available - 6 goals and 12 points for $4 million isn't going to cut it. Game 39: Vancouver 2 @ Calgary 4 (*Jarome Iginla, **Brad Richards, ***Zigmund Palffy) G Shane Hamilton (18) makes 23 saves in the victory. Jakub Klepis (Wsh) wins Offensive Player of the Week. Game 52: Calgary 4 @ Vancouver 5 (*Jarome Iginla, **Ed Jovanovski, ***Danil Markov) This really sucks. Both F Ivo Ruthemann (33) and F Jaroslav Markovic (24) were unavailable due to international duty. Players were playing out of position as a result. I recall F Clarke MacArthur (24) and F Jens Jacobs (24) from Lowell. Jarome Iginla (Cgy) wins Offensive Player of the Week. J.S. Giguere (Ana) wins Defensive Player of the Week. Calgary trades G Antti Hagman (21) to Nashville for D Brett Carson (24). My defence is completely decimated. Although Carson was a player I could have had in the waiver draft, I'm desperate. After some time in the minors, my coaches suggest Hagman's not progressing as they'd hope. I suspect he will be a minor leaguer/back-up goalie. Game 55: Minnesota 1 @ Calgary 3 (*Jarome Iginla, **Brad Richards, ***Eric Nystrom) Game 56: Calgary 5 @ Minnesota 6 (OT)(*Brent Burns, **Glenn Murray, ***Shea Weber) I discipline G Michael Leighton (28) for a '5' rating - his second in a row - and now he's unhappy. F Jarome Iginla (32), D Dion Phaneuf (24) and F Brad Richards (29) make Team Canada. F Fredrik Naslund (23) makes Team Sweden. D David Tanabe (29) and D Paul Mara (30) make Team USA. Well, I tried to get DiPietro out of the Island in an all out attempt to win the Cup. I couldn't do it so I'm going with Leighton and 18 year old Hamilton in goal. I don't think I'll dismantle but reload.
Next season: D Paul Mara (30) - qualified but wants ~$ 6-6.5 million F Jarome Iginla (32) - $7 million F Joe Thornton (30) - needs a qualifying offer at $8.5 million F Chuck Kobasew (27) - $4.5 million With two first rounders ready to step in, and Markovic progressing nicely, Kobasew's time is done after the playoffs. If I don't qualify Thornton, I'll definitely lose him to free agency. We'll see... Last edited by Karim : 01-30-2005 at 04:27 PM. |

-------------- Los Angeles trades F Enver Lisin (24) to Anaheim for D Chris Riddell (22). After issuing my second ultimatum to the board to expand the player budget, I have been asked to resign. It will be interesting to see if they can take it to the next level. NY Islanders trade the rights to F Aleksandr Yakubov (19) to Detroit for F Peter Guggisberg (25). Washington trades D Jim Vandermeer (28) and a 7th Round Pick in 2010 originally from Calgary to New Jersey for F Jean-Michel Rizk (24) and D Dmitri Loginov (21). Los Angeles trades the rights to G Joel Paquet (19) to Carolina for F Antti Pihlstrom (25). Calgary Flames appoint Mike Milbury (58) as General Manager. In no time, Mad Mike gets into the action. Montreal trades F Niko Dimitrakos (31) and a 9th Round Pick in 2011 to Calgary for the rights to G Bjorn Lindstrom (21) and a 3rd Round Pick in 2011. New Jersey trades D Cory Sutter (22) to Boston for F Linus Bladstrom (24). Interesting. The Flames board have let Milbury re-sign F Joe Thornton (31) at $8.5 million but let D Paul Mara (30) go. When I tried to re-sign Thornton, they wouldn't allow that much. Nashville signs F Patrik Elias (34) from New Jersey for $15.75 million/2 years. Tampa Bay signs D Brad Lukowich (33) from Boston for $7 million/2 years. New Jersey re-signs D Roman Hamrlik (36) for $6 million/1 year. Los Angeles trades F Patrik Bartschi (25) to Chicago for D Kyle Bortis (21). Ottawa signs G Rick DiPietro (28) from NY Islanders for $18.1 million/4 years. Montreal re-signs F Todd Bertuzzi (35) for $6.5 million/1 year. Columbus trades G Jeff Glass (24) to Buffalo for G Logan Klimosko (22) and a 2nd Round Pick in 2011. Montreal signs F Pavel Datsyuk (31) from St. Louis for $12.5 million/2 years. Montreal signs F Jeff O'Neill (34) from St. Louis for $2.7 million/1 year. Calgary has signed Aaron Miller (38) and Steve Staios (36) as Assistant Coaches. Their attributes are awful compared to the two coaches they've released. Los Angeles signs F Ladislav Nagy (31) from Phoenix for $16.75 million/2 years. Philadelphia trades the rights to D Petter Bergqvist (18) to the NY Rangers for D Timo Eriksson (21). Montreal signs D Andreas Lilja (34) from New Jersey for $3.4 million/1 year. Calgary signs D Sheldon Souray (34) from San Jose for $6.8 million/2 years. Detroit trades F Aki Seitsonen (24) to Anaheim for the rights to D Ulf Nylander (21). St. Louis trades D Sergei Gonchar (36) to Los Angeles for F Petr Kanko (26) and a 4th Round Pick in 2011. Edmonton trades F Robbie Schremp (24) to Columbus for the rights to F Andreas Berglund (19) and a 2nd Round Pick in 2011 originally from Buffalo. Vancouver trades the rights to F Anders Pettersson (18) to Los Angeles for D Sascha Goc (31). NY Rangers trade G Dan Blackburn (27) to Columbus for D Luke Schenn (20). Unreal. I tried so hard to get Blackburn last year and now he's traded for a minor leaguer. New Jersey signs F Jamie Langenbrunner (35) from Montreal for $6.75 million/1 year. Nashville signs F Daymond Langkow (33) from Ottawa for $16.5 million/2 years. NY Islanders trade F Justin Papineau (30) to Atlanta for F Mark Gorman (22), the rights to F Radim Suchanek (18), and a 3rd Round Pick in 2011. Detroit trades G Tomas Popperle (25) to Chicago for the rights to F John Wilson (18). Tampa Bay trades F Marek Novak (21) to Anaheim for D Riley Day (24). Boston signs F Petr Sykora (33) from Montreal for $8.25 million/1 year. St. Louis trades F Raffi Torres (28) to Nashville for F Konstantin Glazachev (25). Columbus signs F Mark Parrish (33) from Anaheim for $10.75 million/2 years. Phoenix trades the rights to F Matt Dineen (18) and the rights to F Craig Sutherland (19) to Edmonton for F Petr Pohl (24) and a 6th Round Pick in 2011. Waiver Draft ------------ Buffalo selects F Adam Hall (30) from Boston. Washington selects D Brett Carson (24) from Calgary. Chicago selects F Lance Monych (26) from Phoenix. Carolina selects F Matthew Myers (25) from Calgary. Chicago selects G Konstantin Barulin (26) from Columbus. Buffalo selects F Jan Marek (30) from NY Rangers. The Flames currently have $55 million in salaries on their main roster. Their finances are considered secure. WTF? Toronto re-signs D Martin Grenier (29) for $7.2 million/3 years. Phoenix signs F Viktor Kozlov (35) from Nashville for $3.7 million/1 year. Calgary signs D Filip Kuba (33) from Boston for $7.3 million/2 years. Make that $58.8 million... |

Thanks, GM. IRL, the Flames' ownership group has a combined net worth over $2 billion US! Unfortunately, they have remained steadfast through the years of staying within a budget (as is their right) rather than spending beyond what the market could support. I'm going to carry on scoping the league and choose the next job wisely. |

--------------- I wasn't getting any major news items so I fast forwarded to the playoffs. Detroit has fired GM David Poile (62) after finishing a distant last with 48 points. I have applied for the position. The only NHL team with a vacancy. The Calgary Flames have finished first overall for the fourth consecutive year (110 pts.). The payroll is $60 million. Since finances are only considered 'ok', I suspect Milbury has gone over the allocated budget. I'm not sure how this is done with the board controlling how much can be spent per player. I've also noticed that players whose attributes had slipped are all back to what I expected them to be but I could never manage to do it. |

My first task as GM of Detroit is to surround myself with good people. I fire the entire coaching staff except for Dave Lewis (55) who I promote to Head Coach. I fire five scouts. I proceed to bring in replacements for all of them. I send all my scouts to look at the upcoming Entry Draft but I'm not sure what type of results I'll get this late in the season. We're schedule to pick first if we don't lose the lottery. |

Damn! Unbelievable. At least you get a chance to rebuild the Wings who have finally fallen back to the bottom. There's the potential for major glory in that. Last edited by Tekneek : 02-17-2005 at 07:44 AM. |

You know, the only player he brought in was D Filip Kuba. He sent G Shane Hamilton back to juniors and brought in a minor league goalie as backup who saw only 10 games all year. The rest was untouched.
Oh well, Detroit will be fun to work with. I'll actually be able to go after free agents. |

(WHL - Portland Winterhawks) ISS Ranking: #1 A star who will jump into the action right-away. I selected him to the Canadian National Junior team as a 15 year old and he wasn't out of place. He's finished the last two years in the WHL with over an 8.00 AvR. The best comparison would probably be Rob Blake. 2(31) G - Chris Mayer (17), 5,9", 152 lbs. (QMJHL - Acadie-Bathurst Titans) ISS Ranking: #115 Stats weren't good but he was playing in Quebec. His attributes were the best among the goalies I considered. 3(61) G - Joel Simpson (17), 5'11", 174 lbs. (QMJHL - Moncton Wildcats) ISS Ranking: #100 We need goalies as we have no one worth considering other than a 19 year old Ben Kielt. Everyone is off my draft board. As a die hard Wings fan this just got more interesting.
I love your #1 pick. Hopefully he is to you as Yzerman was to the Wings. |

I really enjoy this dynasty. But I have one request.
Could you mark the transactions by your team in a different color from the other transactions? How do you feel about the team's chances to make the playoffs by the way. Oh... and were you disappointed that you didn't get a slam dunk franchise goalie or goal-scorer with the 1(1) pick? |

Done. Sorry about that. I just got a little lazy... Quote:
I think it's realistic to be in the hunt for the last spot. Detroit's problem the last several years has been defence so that's where my focus is right now. We've upgraded but I have five goalies in camp without a clear idea of who is starting. Quote:
Not at all. When I took over the team, I saw that Chisholm was draft eligible this year. Without knowing who else was available, I already knew this was my pick. I was just hoping I wouldn't lose the lottery. It's really hard to get a Pronger/Blake type player. |

Hows Chisolms leadership?
I always believe that your captain should be playing D (Stevey Y being an obious exeption heh) and if Chisholms can lead, I'd think of making him your leader. Just one crazy Wing fans opinion |

Well... I'm not a big hockey guy. But it's my understanding that defenseman take a long time to develop. Also, it's easier to see the impact of a scorer or goalie when reading a dynasty. Anyway, 'looking forward to seeing what he can do. |

Chisholm is only a '7'. Lecavalier is captain, with Boyle and Walker assistants. |

------------------- Exhibition Game 1: Detroit 1 @ Atlanta 1 No '6' ratings. Everyone played well. I had no core veterans in the lineup and they went against Heatley and Kovalchuk. I demote D Andrei Uchevatov (22) to Grand Rapids. He's Detroit's 1st Round Pick from 2007. He's got good skills but a '3' in positioning which I consider fatal for a defenceman. I suspect I'll try and trade him sometime during the year. I place D Michael Busto (25), D Clayton Barthel (25), and F Colin McDonald (26) on waivers. Exhibition Game 2: Toronto 0 @ Detroit 6 Lecavalier, Belanger and Morrow all get on the board. I demote F Aleksandr Yakubov (20), F Shawn Allen (20) and G Alexander Smirnov (23) to Grand Rapids. I place D Ryan Wilson (24) on waivers. Philadelphia trades the rights to F Erik Andersson (24) to Colorado for the rights to D Markus Backman (21). Exhibition Game 3: Detroit 5 @ Chicago 3 I demote D Scott Lowe (20) and F Martin Suchanek (21) to Grand Rapids. I place F John Lammers (25) on waivers. Exhibition Game 4: St. Louis 2 @ Detroit 2 I demote F Antti Tikkanen (21) and F Oscar Lindmark (21). F Carter Camper (23) is out for 2 weeks with a thigh strain. Exhibition Game 5: Detroit 6 @ Minnesota 1 Exhibition Game 6: Colorado 1 @ Detroit 4 Waiver Draft ------------ Detroit selects D Shea Weber (26) from Calgary. Anaheim selects D Lukas Krajicek (29) from Colorado. Minnesota selects G Lukas Mensator (27) from Vancouver. Boston selects D Ivan Baranka (26) from Phoenix. Toronto selects G Tomas Popperle (26) from Chicago. Detroit selects D Mike Egener (27) from Tampa Bay. Phoenix selects F Josef Vasicek (31) from Carolina. Los Angeles selects G Marco Buhrer (31) from Washington. Washington selects F Craig Adams (34) from Carolina. Detroit selects D Chris Zarb (26) from St. Louis. Detroit selects F Jens Jacobs (26) from Calgary. Buffalo selects F Bobby Ryan (24) from Detroit. I place G Ilya Bryzgalov (31) and D Martin Gajdos (25) on waivers. Gajdos is claimed by Anaheim. I demote G Thomas Baumle (27) to Toldeo of the ECHL, and D Mikhail Tyulyapkin (27), D Jonas Frogren (31) and F Jason Reese (23) to Grand Rapids of the AHL. D Brett Carson (25) is out for 10 days with an olecranon bursitis. I pull a Mike Keenan and get "my" guys - Carson, Weber, Zarb, Jacobs. |

----------------- Starting lineup: F Henrik Zetterberg (30) - F Vincent Lecavalier (31) - F Dainius Zubrus (33) F Derek Brown (19) - F Eric Belanger (33) - F Brenden Morrow (32) F Ben Morin (20) - F R.J. Umberger (29) - F Shawn Marr (21) F Jens Jacobs (26) - F Carter Camper (23) - F Scott Walker (38) F Jordan McLean (24) D Dan Boyle (35) - D Mathieu Dandeneault (35) D Shea Weber (26) - D Brett Carson (25) D Mike Egener (27) - D Corey Chisholm (18) D Brian Campbell (32) - D Chris Zarb (26) G Evgeny Nabokov (36) G Ben Kielt (21) Game 1: Detroit 4 @ Atlanta 2 (*Vincent Lecavalier, **Eric Belanger, ***Pavel Kubina) Washington trades F Jussi Peltomaa (24) to Calgary for G Chris Gill (25) and the rights to F Petr Rethjar (20). I recall F Aleksandr Yakubov (20) from Grand Rapids. Game 2: Philadelphia 1 @ Detroit 5 (*Brenden Morrow, **Vincent Lecavalier, ***Ben Morin) D Chris Zarb (26) is out for 10 days with anterior knee pain. F Carter Camper (23) and D Brett Carson (25) resumes full practice. Detroit trades the rights to G Dmitri Yachmenev (21) to Calgary for the rights to D Victor Tuokko (21). The two goalies I drafted this past draft are generating a lot of interest around the league. Yachmenev was expendable. Tuokko is a Ukranian I drafted who has been playing solidly in the Russian Superleague since he was a teenager. He looks to be tough as nails, similar to Dimitri Yushkevic. |

Karim,
This is a fantastic dynasty. Really a solid job. I feel like an idiot for not reading it sooner. I'm in the 2010-2011 season myself in my Islanders dynasty. I am loving this game. The draft and player development is amazing. Keep it up. Good to see you leading the Wings. They need it. Boy do they need it in this game.

Thanks, HB. It's nice not to have to worry about money. That said, I have $28 million left and don't feel the need to spend money just for the sake of spending money. The cash is rolling in with continuous sellouts...
It'll be interesting to see how far I can take the "last place team" this season... Last edited by Karim : 02-23-2005 at 05:37 AM. |
