They would be willing to be patient enough for him to implement his offense and get the pieces, he is better at recruiting in the South/Southeast, the Appalachian culture is similar in WV and Kentucky, and if they are willing to have Cailipari then they will be willing to overlook Rod's violations at WVU and UM. I don't think he would turn them into national title contenders or anything, but he could probably get them somewhere near the level that South Carolina is at now (and occassionally contend in the SEC, I'd imagine).

That's an interesting thought. My first guess would be Mike Leach if they were truly going to go for the oddball/disgraced hire, since he was OC here years ago.

That sucks. Some UCLA players have had that problem, too.

He's not the only highly-rated TE prospect that's had that problem - that's why Kavario Middleton was asked to leave the UW, and he had a very lackluster year this year with Montana. Real shame - the kid had NFL talent, but he's smoking it away.

From what I hear Morrell Presley has the same issue. What is it with 5 star west coast tight ends?

While I wouldn't be shocked if Stevens smoked out from time to time, his vice was/is alcohol.

He was actually a hugely productive player in college, and showed flashes in the NFL too before his drinking and DUI issues derailed him.

Yup, that has been put forth. And, yeah, the fact all this is happening to tight ends in the west is really, well, weird.

UCLA is too busy trying to make him an F-Back and then not throwing to him. I'd smoke too

Speaking of guys who aren't willing to work hard, Theron Collier with a VERY short stay at USC after transferring from Miami. He's no longer on the team.

Clemson commit 4 star Mainland Fl RB
Marlin Lane had his scholarship offer pulled yesterday.

Essentially he took an OV to Tenn last week and lied to the coaches when they asked him about it, and then he was arrested for Marijuana possession.

Wish the kid the best, but he needs to go to an SEC school, he has a full back tattoo that says Clemson, he is going to need some $$$ to get that removed.

Ishaq Williams commits to ND. If we keep Tuitt in the fold and Lynch re-commits, that will be the best D-Line class ND has picked up in the last 20 years - plus they actually looked dominant at the AA game instead of just on paper.

Only other recruits left people are hoping for are Amir Carlisle, Savon Huggins and one more OL - maybe Troy Niklas or Chase Hounshell. Who knows though - Martin's switch from UK and Lynch re-opening his recruitment both came out of nowhere, and there's still 3 weeks left to signing day.

He got his GF pregnant. Then he got Adam Robinsons married sister pregnant.
So it was better to leave the Iowa team.

4 star RB Amir Carlisle de-committed from Stanford and committed to USC last night. He is USC's 24th commit for the upcoming year.

This is one way to recruit
------------------------------
According to this week's Sporting News, the following phone conversation took place between Coach Sarkisian and Tyson Coleman (who verbaled to Oregon)....

Coleman: Coach Sarkisian asked me if it would make a difference if he got down on his knee and proposed to me. I said you don't need to do that. He said, "It's my job to." We were on the phone and he said, "Alright, I'm getting down on one knee and proposing to you, and it's your job to accept it."

Wow. Just wow.

What are the current restrictions on USC right now? I thought it was 15 per year for the next few years, but I may be off.

I know they think they are going to win their appeal, but it seems doubtful that it will be done by signing day (and it seems doubtful, period, IMO). I don't have any particular beef with USC (and they only recruit against my team once every blue moon), but it seems like they are completely ignoring the punishment at this point.

A number of them (7-8?) are EE's that they can then "backdate" to 2010's class.

9 are EE's. Also, they are currently appealing the sanctions so they are stayed until a ruling is in place.

7-8 seems high. I actually think it was more like 5 that they actually got in. But even if they got 8 in, they still can only take 23 (15 + 8), so this puts them over. I think there are some recruits that are going to be suddenly decommitting from USC as Signing Day approaches, as they get the "message" from the coaching staff.

Oh, cool, I thought they didn't succeed in getting that many in.

In that case, 24 would be the limit (assuming that last guy gets in).

That makes a little more sense.

Do they think it'll actually get reduced? I would think they would feel lucky to not get any worse and accept it (not that they didn't get nailed, but still).

You have to understand the USC mentality, Swaggs. Not only does everyone attached to USC think they will win at everything, they assume they will. This is the way they have always been.

The guys who are enrolled early:

QB Cody Kessler, QB Max Wittek, Juco OL David Garness, Juco OL Jeremy Galten, Long Snapper Peter McBride, K Andre Heidari, Juco LB Dallas Kelley, and Juco DB Isiah Wiley.

2nd Edit: The 9th is Soma Vainuku.

Edit: On another note, Greg Townsend, Jr. just said in an interview that this weekend was very successful for USC and they got a few surprise committments.

USC's scholarship limitations do not apply until next year. So they can take up to 45 this year, but I think they stick around 33 (25+8)

Again, since they are already up to 24, some kids are going to be disappointed.

OC Register is reporting that Washington pulled an offer to Aaron Davis who goes to Los Alamitos and the coach is pissed off. Seems like a bad move by Sark to burn that bridge.

A non-story. Sounds like a typical case of misunderstanding the process, and the coach is just sticking up for his player in public - I really doubt it's much of an actual issue for Sark.

4 star linebacker Anthony Sarao de-committed from Stanford and committed to USC this weekend. I can't believe I'm going to be rooting for a Holy Spirit High School graduate. They were our arch rivals in football in high school. I actually went and watched this kid play in person during Thanksgiving break and he looked great.

Bug, I am pretty sure you're wrong about that 15 limit starting next year. They are under that now. And in that respect, they can only take 24, counting the 9 EEs.

Everything I've heard is that he's basically a coin flip come NSD between Florida State and Clemson. He was in Death Valley last week and he'll be in Tallahassee this weekend.

I'd be lying if I said I was thrilled with the way it went down. I can understand the parent pushing him to go to ND over FSU (or even vice versa), but the ND de-commit and FSU commit for 3 months with no rumors before he showed up at the AA game wearing ND gear (and still swearing he was committed to FSU) makes me question exactly how commiitted he is. 1 in 3 chance he transfers to FSU/the SEC on the next 18 months.

That is correct, unless the appeal is granted or isn't decided until after signing day. The hearing is on the 22nd, and Kiffin is counting on either winning it or it not being decided until after signing day. The max class this year if the appeal is won/delayed is 29, and word is that USC is now at or very close to 29 with a few silent commits from this weekend.

When a parent's that involved, this kind of stuff happens. If he does transfer, I guess we'll know that college has given this kid the balls to tell his mom to fuck off.
