netherlands could/should be down 2 players allready, that Van Bommel foul 4,5 years gets him a sure red card (for some reason they went away from the "tackling from the back = red" rule) and that kung fu kick now ...

As someone that follows de Jong quite a bit.. god damn is he reckless sometimes. Goes with his role though, I suppose.

He's made no secret of his loyalties, he's nothing more than a devoutly anti-American terrorist sympathizer. And that's a kinder description than the miserable piece of shit deserves afaic.

And before anybody starts bitching about the sidetrack, I'm not the one who brought the bastard up in the first place.

Terrible decision on the late yellow. How do you give a yellow for something where you didn't blow a foul?

Yep, after he failed to get the trial moved to S.A. where his cronies could let him walk.

Sorry, but his warm hug relationship with Qadaffi says more than any defender can ever try to explain away. And then there's good ol' Fidel.
He's a poor man's version of Chavez.

you don´t play soccer, do you ? If they don´t "flop" they go out with injured ankles and such. Go ask a physician what happens when there´s impact while your foot is planted.

Robben realises he´s in fact not in a 1:5 match against the neighbour kids but does a) have teammates and is b) going up against world class defenders ?

much better game in the 2nd half

I'm actually digging the physicality of this game. I don't know why, but I enjoy gritty footbal over the creative game.

Of course are embellishing too. I have played plenty of soccer, taken a lot of knocks, damn near tore all the ligaments in my ankle and still have never rolled around like I was shot. It's embarrassing for such a macho culture.

This game is all about the ref isn't it? It's going to come down to a PK somewhere before this is over.

I play in 2 very physical leagues here. There is a metric ton of flopping, most of it by the Spaniards. The Dutch are playing hard, with lots of contact and I'm not doubting that some fouls are enough to bring a player down. I'm talking about the incessant rolling around with minimal contact, then the 3 players who run over the ref crying with their hands up.

Robben is held during a breakaway rather blatantly and gets a yellow for arguing with the ref. I don't understand the comments how if the Spaniards lose it's the refs' fault.

It is kind of annoying that Robben's real mistake on that chance was not taking the dive.

who´s saying that though ?

And it really was far from blatant imo in that robben situation and the way he complains plain and simple is an automatic yellow. Heck, the Ref even gave him the chance to walk away and instead he keeps of yelling.

And there´s really no arguing that De Jong should have gotten a red earlier. But Spain isn´t winning yet because they can´t get the last pass right and Villa and Ramos missed sitters, not because of that decicion.

Spain could use Llorente now imo, but then again who would you take out ? Xavi, Villa and Iniesta you can´t take out, Busquets is the only defensive minded midfielder left and Navas and Fabregas have been substitued in.

Again, shouldn't that fall squarely on the shoulders of the ref? The same guy who gave out a yellow, after he allowed play to continue and gave out the card, only after lots or rolling around?

Exactly, that's what I find annoying. In that situation, Robben falls down he gets the penalty. I think that's a problem with the way soccer is called.

This game is a shining example of why soccer won't be taking off anytime soon in the US. Very few solid moments broken up by flopping.

The one play where someone actually tried to make something happen instead of fopping ends up getting screwed by no call being made. Based on that I can understand the flopping a bit more but have FAR more respect for the player who tried to play through instead of acting like he was shot.

Exactly. The first player that makes a play that I can admire (trying to make something happen instead of diving) and he gets screwed by doing so.

Iniesta, just shoot the damn ball.

So if we just got rid of pks and just played 15 minute halts until someone scored (not golden goal). Surely that would open it up a little more. Holland have been playing for pks since the opening kick.
