What the hell is with the uniforms? I was going to root for Maryland, but those uniforms make me want to root for Miami just out of spite. I'm guessing Nike is behind it?

Under Armor (founder of UA is a Terp alum). Maybe they're making them play better, though...didn't think I'd see a 4th down conversion that would lead to a TD at the end of the drive... /tk

Do they reflect, in any way, past Maryland uniforms or anything?

The is my first time being able to see O'Brien play. He seems like a fun QB to watch, despite those funky uniforms

I...kinda dig the helmets.
What I would have done though is to alternate the sides of the patterns; red/white of the helmet on the same side as the black/yellow shoulders. I think it would make a little more sense given the flag.

They were wearing the turtle helmets in warm-ups, weirdly.

The xfl and afl both rejected those unis as ridiculous.

Not really. When you think about the fact that it only takes 1 player to make a tackle I'd rather bunch them upand run around them potentially. When you spread them out, while you may open lanes inside you also create more angles to the backfield for loss yard plays. |

Side note, during those ads for University of Maryland, my former lab is shown at least once and my robot also makes an appearance. The lab is the one where they go scuba diving, the robot is the silver thing with movable "arms."

When you say robot with movable "arms" is that referring to you given your injury history?

Man it looks sloppy out there. I'm glad I'm home and dry.
That last play was encouraging, though... /tk

Even if he makes it, there's too much time on the clock.

Would love to see Miami get a TD and 2 points after the DB decided to run that one back.

Heh. McDonough commented that the INT sealed it for MD - and I commented "yeah, as long as they make the extra point." Figures they'd miss.

I just feel so bad for poor, "undermanned" Miami. Pfft.

Thing is, without going into great philosophical discussions, spreads generally break down statistically speaking in the red zone as you lose vertical spacing. Granted there are no absolutes and you can argue interior seam creation, but dlinemen slide down close as a rule much better than pursuit close. Fr my money I'd rather a fb or te chip/ power and blow back a yard, than spread them out and start my qb at a 4 yard disadvantage. But admittedly I am a romanticizing fool for the flex bone power I and inverted veer, even old school single wing ( by contrast I find the wing t to be the devil) and not nearly as big a fan of the hunh spreading like wild fire these days. BTW check out some of the stuff Gary Patterson des at TCU..bad ass |
