NCAA Tourney - 2nd Round
East Region (14) Hartford vs. (11) Brown The Hawks offense is on fire, shooting 60% from the field for the 2nd game in a row. Brown was able to hang on for the 1st half, but Hartford's press forced 29 turnovers, allowing the Hawks to pull away in the 2nd half. Nelson and Herbst combined for 45 pts. Code:

NCAA Tournament - 2nd round
South Region (4) Prairie View A&M vs. (5) Utah A spectacular performance from backup SF Rodrick Wray helps lead the Panthers to a slight halftime lead. Utah fights back, but starts to run out of gas in the 2nd half. Leading scorer PF Fournier fouls out of the game with 3:40 left and Utah can't recover. The Panthers pull away to clinch a trip to the Sweet 16. Code:

South Region (6) Charleston Southern vs. (3) Wisconsin Wisconsin's strategy from the start was to take the Bucs out of their game by playing a more up tempo style of basketball. And that worked to the extent that this was a very close game throughout. The negative of the strategy was they ended up committing 22 turnovers, allowing Charleston Southern to edge ahead in the final minutes. The Bucs have a 3 pt lead with just over 1 minute left, but Wisconsin misses two game tying 3 pt attempts and the Bucs survive. Code:

Apropos of nothing, how is Wisconsin only a 4 seed going 16-2 in the Big10? LOL

Not to mention that 2 of the #1 seeds lost to #16 seeds. So the committee did a crap job picking seeds this season.

NCAA Tournament - Sweet 16
West Region (12) Lamar vs. (9) UCLA Lamar was really fortunate here, getting to face 9th seed UCLA because #1 seed Arkansas lost in the 1st round. They take advantage of the opportunity, using their quickness to race out to a 14 pt halftime lead. UCLA mounted a comeback and got as close as 4 pts late in the 2nd half, but two of their starters fouled out and they didn't execute down the stretch. Lamar is heading to the Elite 8! Code:

West Region (4) Prairie View A&M vs. (1) Louisville The Panthers have an off shooting night, but they stay in the game thanks to a solid defense and an amazing 25-26 performance from the free throw line. Louisville started to pull ahead in the 2nd half, but the Panthers D reeled them back in, and it was Prairie View leading in the final minutes. Louisville hit a three to narrow the gap to 57-54 with 3:43 left, but it's the last points they would score in the whole game. The Panthers scored 7 of their own to punch their ticket to the Elite 8 Code:

NCAA Tournament - Sweet 16
West Region (6) Charleston Southern vs. (10) Georgia Tech Another team tries to play an uptempo offense in order to throw the Bucs off of their game. Once again, this briefly works as Tech is only down by 1 at halftime. However, the Bucs open the 2nd half on an 11-2 run, keyed by a turnover prone Tech offense. The Yellow Jackets are unable to mount a comeback, setting up a FOFC showdown in the elite 8! This means either Prairie View A&M or Charleston Southern will make the Final Four. Code:

East Region (14) Hartford vs. (2) Kentucky This was a battle between two elite players, as Hartford's Russell Herbst scores 32 points against the 35 points scored by Kentucky's David Holmes. Hartford had a halftime lead, but the Wildcats pulled ahead midway through the 2nd half. One problem for Hartford is their inability to get to the free throw line. They actually didn't shoot a single free throw for the entire game. Meanwhile, Kentucky shot 42!!!! Power 5 conference bias???!!!! The Hawks laid it on the line, but came up short. Code:

NCAA Tournament - Elite Eight
West Region (12) Lamar vs. (2) Duke More P5 bias? Duke gets to the line 35 times here compared to just 21 for Lamar (this game must've taken forever). Still, Lamar played tough and it was tied 45-45 at the half. In the 2nd half, the Cards started turning the ball over frequently (24 times for the game) and Duke took advantage to slowly build a steady lead. Lamar fought back to get as close to 7 pts behind at 82-75. But then Duke went on a 10-1 run to make it a 16 pt lead with 4 minutes left, putting the game out of reach. Duke finishes off yet another FOFC team, and they will face the winner of the Charleston Southern-Prairie View matchup. Code:

NCAA Tournament - Elite Eight
South Region (4) Prairie View A&M vs. (6) Charleston Southern The Panthers have a good defense, so they don't try to speed it up like Charleston Southern's other opponents. The result is an agonizingly low scoring tournament game. This is a game where the teams combined for 27 pts in the 2nd half. Combined. The Bucs pulled ahead 29-21 early in the 2nd half, but the Panthers rebounded with an 8-0 run to tie it. The game remained close, with several lead changes the rest of the way. Here's how it finished... Code:
What a game!!!! Another buzzerbeater! Code:

NCAA - Final Four
(4) Prairie View A&M vs. (2) Duke It was a close game... for the first 11 minutes. At that point, the Panthers led 21-19. This is when Duke uncharacteristically just completely imploded. Over the next 6 minutes, Prairie View's defensive prowess led a 19-2 run that gave the Panthers a massive lead going into halftime. A demoralized Duke just had nothing to give in the 2nd half, where the smallest lead was by 13 points. The Panthers are headed to the national championship!!! Code:

NCAA Championship
(4) Prairie View A&M vs. (9) Texas A&M Texas A&M may be a 9 seed, but they have three solid players who the Panthers struggle with right from the start. PG Reinke would score 13 pts and 14 assists. SG Keith scored 35 pts. And PF Stanford Davis had 17 pts an 18 rebounds. Still, the Panthers fight hard and it is tied at 51 with 10:43 left. However, the Aggies dominate the boards with a 43-25 edge and start to pull away late in the 2nd half. A 10-2 run with 6:30 left gives the Aggies an 11 pt lead and the Panthers are unable to pull closer than 9 the rest of the way. A great season for the Panthers, but they come up just short. Code:

The pollsters are showing them disrespect by leaving them unranked to start this year. That's probably because they lost longtime valuable starters Rodrick Wray and Jeffrey Keith. They also have a new coaching staff as P5 teams keep poaching our FOFC coaches. Code:

They do bring in a ton of fresh faces, but are still lacking depth at the 1 and 2. Code:

The Bucs doing what they're used to, slow pace and solid defense. Their unbeaten streak was broken by Kent State, but they opened play in their new conference with two nice victories. Code:

The Vikings were destined to struggle without Jonathan Wilson, but I didn't expect it to go this bad. And this is all OOC, so we can't blame moving up to a new conference on this. They have three players averaging 13 ppg or more, but their defense is giving up way too many pts. Code:

The pollsters really don't like the Owls. Despite only losing two games to solid teams, they are left out of the top 25, although they did get 1 singular vote. They have 6 players averaging 9 ppg or more, and got off to a great start in their new conference. Code:

The Panthers lost their first conference game in the MEAC, then ripped off 15 straight victories to easily claim the conference title. One major problem facing the Panthers as they head into the postseason is a season ending injury to Scott Marshall, who led the Panthers with 15.8 ppg. Code:

After a rather bizarre loss to Eastern Illinois to open conference play, Lamar had a solid season in the Ohio Valley, winning their division and earning the #1 seed for the conference tourney. They are on the bubble if they don't win the tourney. Code:

Well the Hawks certainly had no trouble in their new conference as they just thrashed their new opponents, winning all but two conference games by double digits. Their two Guards, Wallace Nelson and Emery Waldon, are combining for 38.6 ppg. Code:

#10 Charleston Southern (27-3, 16-2), RPI: 27
Ranked #10 in the country and they'd be much higher if they hadn't dropped 2 of their final 3 regular season game in a rare show of laziness. Their defense is slightly worse than last year, but still #1 in the nation. Code:

Portland State (14-14, 11-5), RPI: 202nd
After a miserable start to the season, the Vikings pulled it together and managed to win the regular season conference title. Freshman Glenn Davis had a big season with 14.4 ppg. Code:

#20 Kennesaw State (25-5, 17-3), RPI: 55th
And the Owls make it 6 for 6 in FOFC teams winning the regular season title in their new conferences. Slight concern that they ended conference play with a terrible loss to Arkansas Little Rock. Hopefully they can regroup for the postseason. Code:

In Kenn State's defense, Ark-Little Rock has a great RPI and played them closely earlier in the year, losing to Kenn State by 4.

True, and they'd already wrapped up the conference title by that point, so probably took it easy.

2nd Round: (1) Prairie View A&M 87, (9) Delaware State 72 PG Gillette leads the way with 24 pts and backup SG Hayes adds 17 pts off the bench to help the Panthers stave off an upset bid. It was only 6 pt game at the half, but the Panthers played a solid 2nd half and didn't let Delaware State close the gap. Semifinals: (1) Prairie View A&M, (12) Bethune Cookman 40 Both C Walther and PF Bolden have double doubles and the defense limits Bethune to .281 from the field. Championship: (1) Prairie View A&M 67, (2) Norfolk State 64 The Panthers really struggled from range (6-23) in this one as Norfolk State built a 9 pt halftime lead. But their ability to get to the line (24 free throws to just 3 for Norfolk) sparked a comeback that carried Prairie View to another conference title.

Ohio Valley Conference
Semifinals: (4) Murray State 87, (1) Lamar 71 The Cardinals have lucked into another conference where the top seeds have automatic byes to the semifinals... and they promptly lose right away, just like they did in the Southland. The defense is the culprit here, as they allowed Murray State to shoot .576 from the field.

2nd Round: (1) Hartford 93, (9) Holy Cross 56 Holy Cross was only down 12 at the half, but Nelson and Waldon led a dominant 4th quarter which the Hawks won 49-24. Semifinals: (1) Hartford 110, (5) Bucknell 60 The Hawks shoot .705 from the field as Bucknell is thoroughly embarassed. Championship: (1) Hartford 107, (2) Loyola MD 76 Loyola MD was one of only 2 teams that beat Hartford this season, but the Hawks quickly erase any doubts by taking a 52-28 halftime lead. Loyola performs better on offense in the 2nd half, but still get outscored 55-48.
