13.1 Honcho – Actually goes under the bar his so far off… Nielsen – Pass Ginsberg – Pass Bafou – strains hard to generate leverage…he hits the bar and coming out of the pit, he’s grabbing his lower back. Looks like he might have pulled something. Peltonen – clears this height with room to spare Honcho – goes for his second attempt…he’s up, the pole bends…and I don’t mean flexs…it bent…he come crashing down hard on the edge of the cushion…that was ugly and scary. The trainers are tending to him. They help him out of the pit and he’s headed into the locker room…we’ll have to wait and see how bad he’s hurt. Obviously the wear and tear of this meet is taking its toll as the injuries are starting to pile up. Honcho – after getting his maximum time allotted for injury treatment Honcho is out to try again…he’s clearly banged up as his speed down the runway is not where it was on his first two attempts – that can’t help. He plants and really strains his muscles to get up – and – OVER! He cleared… Bafou – on his second attempt he clears the bar, but his back is definitely bothering him…we’ll have to see how much it impacts him performance moving forward. |

14.1 Babson – easily up and over for a good quick start Nielsen – just like Babson, he’s easily over the bar Ginsberg – his second effort isn’t nearly as good as his first…but he almost managed to contort himself enough to get over…nice effort but still a miss. Honcho – gives it a go here…he up…and oooh…just ticks the bar off the stand. If he were 100%, he makes that jump… Path – Good again, still a whole foot to spare Schaplowsky – clears is easily yet again…he’s jumping well right now… Bafou – up and over – no problem Peltonen - Pass Ginsberg – third jump is an instant replay of the last one… Honcho – showing real heart he is going again…he’s up and he fights his way over… Ginsberg – a third straight jump at this height and a 3rd straight time he just missed. All 3 were probably good from 13’ 9”, might have been good from 14’ but just couldn’t get over that last inch. Ginsberg clears 12’ 9” |

14.5 Babson – Pass Nielsen – Pass Path – Misses…a bit sloppy on that attempt. Llyw – he starts this event off with a hold your breath and really suck in your gut effort to clear Bafou – still not slowing down in this event as he’s easily over the bar again Mighty – is over this height by more than a foot… Schaplowsky – this makes his 4th straight good attempt with no misses so far. Jordan – clears his opening height by over a foot Peltonen – another good attempt Ketola – gets his opening height and he’s on the board Path – misses again…and again it isn’t a real good attempt Path – facing the end of this event following 2 misses...Path is really sprinting down the runway this time, he’s clearly going hard after this 3rd attempt…and it pays off, he just slips over the bar |

14.9 Babson – Pass Nielsen – he brushes the bar as he lets go of the pole just a tad late…it bounces…and stays up… Llyw – jump looks like the previous one, only this time that isn’t going to be good enough to clear Path – much better this time, as he’s easily over this height Bafou- he clears once again…so other than the miss caused by the injury, he’s really been soaring – with 5 straight clears Schaplowsky – 14.9 is also cleared… Jordan – misses badly…clips the bar with his toe going up Peltonen – this time he clips the bar with his knee going over… Ketola – not able to clear Mighty – Pass Honcho - is able to just slip over the bar Llyw – his next attempt is almost a carbon copy of the last two…and he misses again Jordan – second chance…he hits the bar with his chest as he’s decending…the bar bounces – and falls Peltonen – just barely brushes the bar on the way over…it wobbles, but stays up Ketola – again he doesn’t clear –it’s close but he can’t quite get over the bar, wonder if the injury is holding him back Llyw – gives it a 3rd try, and this time he’s no where close… Jordan – again, he’s up, over the bar – brushes it on the way down…it’s bouncing, bouncing and it – Falls…so Jordan is finished Ketola – misses for the 3rd straight time and Ketola is finished in this event. Llyw clears 14’ 5” Jordan clears 14’ 5” Ketola clears 14’ 5” Last edited by Breeze : 09-01-2015 at 11:24 AM. |

15.1 Babson – Pass Nielsen – Pass Honcho – gives this height a try as well…he lumbers down the runway, plants the pole he’s up…and - he just rides it back down to the ground. Looks like that one was pretty painful so he packed it in rather than over-exert himself. Path – just slips over the bar to clear again… Bafou – just slips over the bar – 6 straight makes… Schaplowsky – 6 straight with no misses… Peltonen – a nice job of body control allows Peltonen to contort his way over the bar Mighty – another solid looking attempt clears the bar Honcho – waves off his next attempt and he’s finished with the Pole Vault Honcho clears 14’ 9” |

15.5 Babson – takes his second turn, and hits the bar with his thigh going over the bar for a miss Nielsen – Misses…late to get body in position so hits the bar early in the attempt. Schaplowsky – 7 jumps no misses…as hot as he is - it’ll be interesting to see if he keeps going and risks getting worn out Rambis – jumps into the event barely clearing 15.5, almost went a little too conservative there. Peltonen – trys 15.5, but comes up well short… Chilton – misses his opening attempt Bafou – he goes for 15’ 5” and comes up well short…in fact he’s under the bar Mighty –Mighty appears to be on a roll…that’s 3 straight Path – waves off the rest of his attempts as he retires from the event Babson – Second try at this height is much better as he’s easily over Nielsen – miss – second straight miss…this one was close, but couldn’t quite finish the jump. Chilton – misses his second attempt…now he heads into his 3rd and final attempt with no height on record. Bafou – again he knows early he isn’t going to get it, so he ducks under the bar for the second straight time Peltonen – he also retires from the event at this point Nielsen – Cleared by a hair. Chilton – just clears the bar Bafou – is the 3rd competitor to decide to pack it in for this event at this height Path clears 15’ 1” Peltonen clears 15’ 1” Bafou clears 15’ 1” Last edited by Breeze : 09-01-2015 at 11:34 AM. |

15.9 Babson – Pass Nielsen – Pass Schaplowsky – Hard to believe this guy in injured with these results….he clears yet again… Chilton – misses again…something seems to be off Mighty – That’s a miss, hits the bar hard with his hip going over Rambis – over the bar with over a foot to spare, made it look easy Chilton – misses again – that’s 5 jumps and 4 of them have been misses, unheard of for a such a good pole vaulter Mighty – second time is much better as he clears with room to spare Chilton – misses yet again…this was a disaster for the UK athlete…I’m sure based on his location in the standings and the fact this is one of his better events, he was planning to use this event to strengthen his case for a medal, but this effort isn’t going to get that accomplished Chilton clears 15’ 5” Last edited by Breeze : 09-01-2015 at 11:38 AM. |

16.1 Babson – Pass Nielsen – Pass Palmiero – finally makes his appearance in this event…and it’s not a thing of beauty, but he does get over the bar. Schaplowsky – he clears this height as well…I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this. 9 jumps and no misses… Mighty – Another clear for Mighty… Rambis – another easy effort |

16.5 Babson – Misses badly Nielsen - Pass Palmiero – over again… Schaplowsky – that was not a good attempt…not sure if he’s getting tired, or just felt off on that approach but he records his first miss. Mighty – takes an attempt here…and he clips the bar with his hip Rambis – continues to be hot clearing the bar without any concern Babson – Just barely knocks the bar off on the way over Schaplowsky – decides to go again…and again it’s not the same as his previous efforts…he’s short on his lift and he knocks the bar off early. Mighty – resigns from any further attempts Babson – 3rd straight miss and Babson’s event is over. Schaplowsky – waives off his next chance Babson clears 15’ 5” Schaplowsky clears 16’ 1” Mighty clears 16’ 1” |

17.1 Nielsen – Going for his personal best height…he’s up…and he’s over, oh…he just clips the bar with his hand on the release knocking it off…so close Palmiero – On his turn, Palmiero is up and he clears the bar…there was no question about that one…he had a little room to spare. So he’s done 5 jumps, cleared 17.1 and he’s still going. Rambis – misses for the first time…it was close but just couldn’t quite swim himself over cleanly Nielsen – miss…this one wasn’t close Rambis – second miss isn’t as close… Nielsen – another miss that wasn’t terribly close Rambis – concerned about fatigue, Rambis waves off his 3rd attempt Nielsen clears 15’ 5” Rambis clears 16’ 9” |

Event 8 - Pole Vault - Recap
Winners Palmiero - yes there were probably other winners, but Palmiero's effort was more than a foot better than every other athlete, and even more importantly was over 2.5 feet better than those around him in the overall standings Losers Bafou - while not in the running for a medal, this injury will most likely prevent him from moving any higher in the standings Last edited by Breeze : 09-01-2015 at 12:35 PM. |

I may not finish in medal contention, but barring a major collapse, I should be good for a middle of the pack finish. The way Schaplowsky started, he'll take it. |

Current Standings Overview
With only 2 events left things are starting to tighten up in several places... Palmiero's excellent effort in the Pole Vault has catapulted him from 5th to 2nd. Currently, it looks like a 4 way fight between Babson, Palmiero, Nielsen, and Peltonen for the top 3 spots. It will be interesting to see how this plays out knowing that Babson and Palmiero aren't as strong in the last two events as Peltonen and Nielsen are. Like the top 4, we have a tight bunching of athletes from 5th to 10th. Looking at the remaining events, injuries, stamina, etc., I expect that Ketola will continue to slide down the leaderboard. In fact, with his injury, he may find himself at the bottom of that second group before all is said and done. On the other hand Path looks to be sitting pretty in his group, poised for a strong finish. Will it be strong enough to challenge for 3rd, I'm not sure. Two competitors, Llyw and Bafou, at the bottom of the standings have a couple of strong events coming up, so they could climb a bit...assuming the injury doesn't hinder Bafou too badly.
