Another club just sold a pitcher for $1.
And the Braves seem content to frequently get back the proverbial bag o'l balls to get salary relief.

Not exactly sure the Wilpons are unique at this point.

The Mets are an NYC franchise which owns their own TV network that kicks in a tremendous amount of money. They came into the season with World Series aspirations and yet had the 13th highest payroll in baseball. Take out David Wright's $20MM salary which they were always going to collect insurance on and they would have been below the league average. That's unconscionable. Shockingly this team couldn't handle injuries to any of its big players.

They had a window of opportunity where they should have been taking advantage of the tremendous value they were getting out of their pitching staff. Instead they dumpster dove on guys like Reyes and did nothing to address the holes on their roster from last season.

That TV network also contributes to their financial negatives, as part-"owner" of the $700m in debt service the club was dealing with.

They have (had) $700MM of debt..."debt service" is the amount required to be paid on that debt. They pay next to nothing in terms of principal amortization and have about $23MM in annual debt service. Their dividends from BAM cover almost half of that.

Sorry, I kept trying to type that post between interruptions & my phrasing got screwed up. "debt service on $700m" is what I was trying to say, I just didn't type it. My bad.

Bryce Harper just went down with what looked like a bad leg/knee injury.

Alex Pavlovic on Twitter: "Harper slipped on the bag, had to be helped off field. It's been raining the entire night: https://t.co/O8HSQc0sMk"

They're trying to force this Nats game to be played even though the suburbs are still getting doused and the start time was pushed back to 10pm. Rizzo and the Lerners deserve to lose Harper with the way they've handled tonight and several others this year.

So the Nats have lost Werth, Eaton, Harper, Taylor, and Raburn to injury so far this year. How can Dusty keep confusing them for pitchers?

It could change as soon as later today, but as of right now, were the playoffs to start, the injury-ravaged Angels would be the second wild card in the AL. They did this with 3/5's of their projected rotation on the DL and two others from last year's rotation, along with their top three bullpen arms, Escobar currently out, Maybin and Valbuena have missed time, Pujols and Calhoun have slumped all year, Espinosa got so bad he was cut, and that Trout guy missed six weks or more, too.

It's really quite remarkable they're even in the mix.

No ligament or tendon damage for Harper. Watching that again, I just don't see how it's possible. He's out indefinitely but expected to be able to return for the playoffs.

In the last 24:30, the Nats and Giants have played 28 innings and counting. in what was essentially a triple header. The third game is in the bottom of the 11th.

Joey Votto is now one game away from tying Ted Williams' record of 21 games in a row reaching base twice or more.

Indians and Diamondbacks ridiculously hot right now. JD Martinez with 4 homers in Arizona's 11th straight win.

That's really your response to a 13-0 defeat?

Good thing the Doyers socked away the wins earlier in the srason. They have been pretty bad the past week or two.

Joey Gallo recently hit the 100 hit mark for his young career. 44 of those hits have been home runs.

I was looking around Joey Votto splits and I saw that this year he has a .300 OBP with an 0-2 count.

I love Joey Votto.
