FOFC Team Update
Sal Maglie says, "Here chick, chick, chick." as he walks back to the clubhouse. I start thinking about bringing a flask to the game. |

GAME 49 - Thursday, May 23rd - Radio Broadcast
Red, "We'll the bad news is the FOFCers still have their losing streak, but the good news is they are out of the Post-Nationals park and they get to go up against the Estrellas, a good team, but one no where near the level of the Posters." "We thought it was going to be Mighty's turn to try and stop the losing streak, but in talking to Benton this afternoon we found out that wouldn't be the case." ---cut to the sound clip---- Red, "So coach, it's Mighty's turn to try and right the ship." Breeze, "Actually, Mighy's not going to pitch tonight. I've decided to give Fozzy a shot." Red, "Wow that's a switch. Mighty has the best ERA in the game, why pull the ball out of his hands?" Breeze,"There are several reasons, not the least of which is the fact that we just need to change things up right now. We are on a hard luck streak. We've been in a position to win most of the games we've lost during our run, and things just haven't gone our way. Mighty has been the toughest luck pitcher in the league I'm sure. In fact, I'm not quite sure how a guy with an ERA of 2.25 or whatever it is, only has a .500 record. But anyway, I felt that putting a tough luck pitcher in to start when the team is on a run of bad luck probably wasn't a wise move - so I've decided to roll the dice and give Foz a shot. Besides Foz has pitched well and he's been bugging Sal and me about a turn in the rotation." ---back to the live broadcast--- So we'll be going with a first start of the season on Sirr Fozzborg against a crafty lefty in Cuellar. The lineups tonight are: A.Tucker CF S.Treacy 2B J.Nights SS J.Potpie 1B H.Hays C G.Gazelle RF D.Fouts 3B K.Ton LF S.Fozborg P and the home team A.Pacheco 2B A.Ohms CF P.Coimbre LF P.Cepeda 1B T.Oliva RF M.Minoso 3B A.Lopez C D.Concepcion SS M.Cuellar P Tucker starts... but lays off the pitch upstairs Ball four, Cuellar walks him It's the hit and run play by FOFC... The official scorer said the second run scored on the error, not the hit. That's why you only got 1 RBI. |

FOFC Dynasty Update
Guys, just wanted to give you a quick update... I have been moved to a new possition in the company and I now am part of the Networking Group, which has meant longer hours. I also have to set up a home network so I can get my work laptop on my offices' VPN and access some of the applications that I'm supporting. In the process of changing my DLS over from USB to Ethernet, I got a socket error and now don't have access to the Internet from home. I should have it by the weekend, but until then I won't be able to update anything. I have played more games...so updates will be coming as soon as I get back on. |

With the resurrection of my stint in the LOC - SOM league (detailed in another thread), I started playing my SOM game again. Which led me to start playing games for this dynasty again...

There are several games that are missing from my playback. I could spend a bunch of time attempting to location them (which would probably make me lose interest in this and give it up), instead let's treat this like you spent a week or so on vaction and didn't read the paper and when you got back...this is what you found...

GAME 58 - JUNE 1st - RADIO BROADCAST
Red: "The FOFCers still haven't kicked things into gear the way they did early in the season, but they have maintained their 4 to 6 game division lead. However, this is a crucial series for the All-Stars. If they want to prove they belong they need to do well this week." Hal McRae chimes in, "It's a little early in the season to talk about a cruical series, but this one will have some impact. The FOFCers have done extremely well early, but most of those wins came against the American League teams, especially the Japanese team, now they are facing their division rivals, and more importantly the team that has been able to real them in a bit...the NL Posters." "They have a tough assignment trying to win tonight, as they will be going up against Sandy Koufax." Red adds. "The umpire has given the signal and it looks like we are ready to being...The FOFCers will counter with their own tough lefty Al Mighty..." "Not a great team for a Lefty to be facing by the way...I mean the Post Nationals have Aaron, Mays, Clemente, Banks, Schmidt...some pretty nasty right handed bats... Hays throws down to second, the ball goes around the horn and we are ready to begin... Morgan steps in...and on the first pitch he hits a weak Pop Out To 2nd Baseman Clemente slaps a Single up the middle Mays hits a hard Grounder To Short Stop Nice play by J.Nights to turn it over Score It: 6-4-3 and give a pat on the back to Tracey for standing in on a tough slide from Clemente BOTTOM OF THE FIRST Tucker Strikes Out and looks bad doing it... Campy Grounds one to Tracey at 2nd Nice play, he turns and fires to Nights, who fires to first Score It: 4-6-3 Double Play! Nice pronostication partner... Hal: Mighty is keeping them down early, so it wasn't far fetched to forsee that one. BOTTOM 2nd Potpie - Single Gazelle Home Run That is Gerald Gazelle's 4th home run of the year. Hays Strike Out Fouts Ground Out To Pitcher Treacy (sorry about the miss spellings above - it's been a while since I've written this stuff) Walk Hal: That walk helps, it will keep the pitcher from leading off next inning Mighty Strike Out TOP 3 Rose - Strike Out Koufax - Pop Out To Short Stop Morgan - Line Out To 3rd Baseman BOTTOM 3 Tucker - Strike Out Nights - Strike Out Hal: I told you Tucker wouldn't be the only one looking bad on Ks tonight Pflaggsettler - Ground Out To 2nd Baseman Nice play by J.Morgan Top 4 Clemente - Ground Out To 3rd Baseman Nice play by D.Fouts Mays - Strike Out Aaron - Walk Musial his one down the line, snagged by Fouts, he jumps up and tries to throw out Stan, but its a bad throw and both runners move up...it's a 2 Base Error By D.Fouts Score It: E5 Aaron takes third Musial to second Interesting...Benton is telling Mighty to issue an Intentional walk to Ernie Banks I think it's because Campy has been struggling this year and he'd rather take his chances with a player who's stuggling then one that is playing pretty well Campy - Fly Out To Left Fielder Hal - Looks like it worked out Bottom 4 Jeebs Singles again Home Run That is Gerald Gazelle's 5th home run of the year, and second of this game... He also knocked in 7 runs And that wraps things up So long from FOFC. Note: I let the computer completely handle the play by play, so it may be a bit more confusing. For some reason it doesn't always announce visits to the mound, player replacements and double switches...but it's much easier and faster for me. If you don't like it let me know. Heck, if you don't like the radio broadcast posts at all and just want box scores, I can do that too |

Post Game
After the embarrassing loss, I’m sitting in my office, drinking a black and tan (following the good start the owner actually installed 2 draft taps), when in walks Howser… “What’s up skip?” “I’ve been thinking,” I responded with a frown. “Uh Oh, that’s not good…especially for a manager who is supposed to be good with instincts not brains?” “Ok, smart ass, let’s say my instincts are telling me we might be in trouble.” I hand him a beer, and I try to figure out exactly how I want to lay this out. “Since our incredible start, we’ve been pretty mediocre. I mean we’ve been playing .500 ball for a while now, and if it wasn’t for our 9 and 1 record against Japan, we wouldn’t even be in first place.” “We should be 10 and 0 against Japan, but a certain manager I know failed to pull…” “Shut up, smart ass….” He smirks. “Anyway, I’m seriously thinking about taking a look at our minor leagues for help.” “REALLY!” “I am truly surprised…” Why?” “Well, to be honest, maybe it is instinct, but we have some issues…” “We are just a third into the season.” He points out. “My point exactly, and we need to address some stuff.” After a pause, Howser says…“I’m listening…tell me what you’re thinking…” “Ok, but let’s see if there is any food left in the clubhouse…I need to eat something. My acid reflux is killing me.” Howser smirks again, “You know that beer isn’t helping any…” |

After grabbing a couple small sandwiches, we settle back into the office...and I explain my position...
"I think we need to address some weaknesses or we are going to not only get caught from behind but run over." "What weaknesses?" Howser asks. "We'll to start with Bo has been terrible...He can't seem to get anyone out." "He's our only true lefty in the pen" Howser calmly reminds me. "We could put Williams in the pen." "You could," he shrugs, "but you know as well as I that he's built more to start and even though he can pitch relief, he isn't built for late innings or long stents out of the pen." "Well don't we have a lefty on the farm team that can get the job done?" I ask. "We are in first by 4 games, I haven't looked at what's going on down there." But that's not the only thing that is bothering you, is it?" "No, I'm not happy at our middle infield. Don't get me wrong, Nights has been fantastic, but Terp is struggling to stay above .100 and our second base situation is a disaster." "Treacy is hitting great." Howser counters. "But fielding terribly, and he has no range in that spot. I think he's actually better in left field. I like his versitility, but as a starting second basemen in this league, he's lacking defensively. I had high hopes for Barrett, he did well in spring, and I like his game, but he's really had a hard time." "Anything else..." Howser asks, almost as if he's a psychiatrist. "Well, Ton's be bad, Gonzalez isn't hitting for power, Fouts isn't getting it done..." I look up to see Howser nodding dutifully. I stop mid-sentence and just stare at him. After about 30 seconds he says..."You finished?" I nod "Feeling better?" I nod "Good, I'm heading home. Traffic should be ok by now." Howser says matter of factly. As he turns to walk out I yell, "Thank you." He answers without turning around, "All part of the job." |

As the players are heading into the dug out...Howser looks over at Maglie and says "Oh boy...Benton's really going to be grumpy now."
Maglie replies, "Thank God, I'm not you..." and he mumbles "I need a drink" as he walks off. |

Maglie walks into the clubhouse with Howser right behind. I peak my head out of my office, I look around and see that no players are with in ear shot so I say, "Hey, Sal, think you can teach our pitchers to keep the ball in the park." Then I shut my door and go back to sulking.
Sal turns around and looks at Howser... who is cracking up. Finally after composing himself he says, "I guess you are me." |

Note: if there is a confusing section in the above text, like a repeated portion...during the game the Post-nationals elected to do a double steal. I thought I had hit the wrong button and didn't want to penalize them by having them run a play the were not going to run on their own. So I undid the play, but when I rolled (clicked) for the batter to swing they ran the double steal again...hence the duplicate information Last edited by Breeze : 08-31-2007 at 09:16 PM. |

Easy out Gunner couldn't get his bat out of the way One away While we wait for the next batter Let's see what's happening in other games Caribbean is edging Turn of Century 3 to 2 Negro League I is destroying AL Post WWII 17 to 2 Smith and Negro League I are on cruise control Dead Ball Era besting Late 20th 7 to 2 Cobb has hit his 2nd homerun for Dead Ball Era Left Outs clipping AL Pre WWII 5 to 1 Heilmann has hit his 11th homerun for Left Outs NL Post WWII leads NL Pre WWII 4 to 3 Ott has hit his 20th homerun for NL Pre WWII Japanese League and Old Timers are scoreless And it brings up Deacon Palmer On deck is Harry Hays James Rodney in the hole Palmer has hit 3 home runs this year Radcliffe steps on the rubber Radcliffe brings it to the plate Slow ground ball Brown is charging it He fires it to first He's OUT That's two away Next up is Harry Hays, the FOFC catcher... If he gets on, James Rodney would bat next Hays has 1 home run today And 5 home runs this year The question is?... Can he belt another? FOFC definitely could use it Radcliffe shakes off the sign from Beckwith And another... Still another... Looks like Radcliffe doesn't want to pitch to Hays Maybe hoping he'll get tired of waiting Now he's finally ready It's a full count... Radcliffe winds and fires... Pop-up Beckwith drifts behind the plate He makes the catch That'll do it for FOFC So we're still tied After 7 and a half innings Negro League II has 7 runs, 8 hits and one error While FOFC has 7 runs, 8 hits and no errors Hill is walking to the plate Now he steps into the batter's box Rodney looks down at Hays for the sign Now he's ready... The righthander winds and delivers Over the outside corner Hill hits the curve right to second... Treacy takes it on the second hop Fires to 1st... Hill is out by a couple of steps With one down Potpie yells something out to Rodney James nods his head Planting his right foot Bankhead is set in the box... The infield shifts slightly to the left for the right hand hitting Bankhead Rodney looks at the ball... Steps off the rubber Throws it in to Hays He wants a new ball The ump looks at it... Tosses it aside... throws a new one to Rodney Now he is ready... Rodney throws the 3-1 pitch Shallow fly ball Pflaggstettler charging HE DIVES... HE'S GOT IT! Two up, two down for Negro League II Up now for Negro League II is Marcelle Two away, nobody on Marcelle digs in on the right side of the plate facing the righty Rodney Marcelle tells the umpire he's ready Rodney brings it to the plate Marcelle hits one toward third Palmer fronts it... Oops, he bobbles it... Now he has the handle... Long throw to first Marcelle is safe by a step! Man, speed on the bases helped there! And the bobble costs Palmer an error Double-Duty Radcliffe, will be up next Spotswood Poles hopes to get a chance as well One on... two away Late in the game, we're all tied We're all tied up at 7 Hays flashes the sign to Rodney Rodney goes into his stretch... Looks at Marcelle... He fires one to Potpie... Marcelle dives back in That's his best move to first... Potpie lobs it back Now Rodney comes home Swung on and missed by Radcliffe, he's down on strikes We head to the 9th... The scored is tied, 7-all K. A. Ton leads off for FOFC Sean Treacy and Jeff Nights will follow We've got a dandy here today at Shadowball Stadium Ton is batting .225 with 5 HR's this year Double-Duty looks for the sign he wants... Shakes off the first one But he likes the next Radcliffe kicks and fires It's a Texas Leaguer to center Here comes Wright... He is really motoring... He reaches down... But catches it on one hop! Ton is on with a bloop single to center Sean Treacy shows bunt And lays it down right to Oliver Marcelle Marcelle looks at second But passes up a sure force play He fires to first to retire Treacy But Ton moves up FOFC was in luck that time... Credit Sean Treacy with a sacrifice And there's one away The shortstop, Nights, is ready to bat The score is knotted at 7 in the top of the 9th Nights is 2 for 3 today Radcliffe ready quickly, looks in for the sign The pitch to Nights... Curve, at the belt... Nights times his swing... Hammers a long fly ball... Spotswood Poles retreats toward the fence He leaps... It's gone, put that one on the board A home run!! Now batting will be A. J. Tucker The center fielder is walking to the plate Bases empty... one out FOFC up by 2 Tucker is at .301 on the season Radcliffe tosses the resin bag aside He steps on the rubber... Radcliffe is into his wind-up And the pay-off pitch The batter checks his swing Here's the appeal Tucker held up, and draws a walk Radcliffe isn't happy at all with that call Tucker studies Radcliffe intently... Now he's walking away from the base Radcliffe tosses another quick one to first... Even the speedy Tucker looks a bit tentative now... He doesn't seem to be getting a great lead Pflaggstettler coming to bat Walking slowly from the on deck circle Tucker on first, with one away Pflaggstettler is batting .300 with 9 homers this year All set, Pflaggstettler is ready for the pitch Radcliffe brings it to the plate Pflaggstettler swings and hits a shot to deep left-center Wright and Poles are converging on the ball Looks like Wright has the best shot at it He dives for it... WOW! He's got it! Fantastic play by Wright Tucker scurries back to first He was already around second! Two down Two outs, with a man at first Potpie is the next batter We'll see how they pitch to Potpie He's waiting on the pitch Still waiting... Now he steps out of the box... We have a game of cat and mouse going on OK, now we're ready to go as Potpie steps back in Radcliffe's into the stretch... Looks over at first Quick throw! Tucker dives back in!... SAFE!... Wilson tosses it back to Radcliffe Now here's the pitch The Whiff! Radcliffe punches Potpie out! That wraps up the inning for FOFC So After 8 and a half innings FOFC has 9 runs, 10 hits and one error While Negro League II has 7 runs, 8 hits and one error FOFC has left 4 stranded Negro League II has failed to bring home 5 Spotswood Poles, Wild Bill Wright, and Willard Brown are due up Poles can't seem to get settled at the plate Kronside likes the sign The initial offering to Poles is on its way... There's a shot off the bat of Spotswood Poles But it's right at Treacy who makes the catch of the line drive Poles throws his bat into the dirt in disgust Negro League II with one away Kronside steps off the mound as he waits for Wild Bill Wright to come to the plate Nobody on base, one away Wright steps into the batter's box Kronside is slow to get ready He has a 1.97 ERA this year Now he's ready With a 1-2 count... here's the pitch Slow ground ball Treacy is charging it HE DROPS IT! That's an error That's error number 2 of the game for FOFC Brown waltzes up to the batter's box Negro League II trails by 2 runs We're in the bottom of the 9th FOFC is set up for two The right-hander Kronside is set to deliver to Brown Jace will have to come in with this 3-0 delivery It's on its way... Fastball juuust outside Ball four! Brown tosses his bat away and trots down to first Kronside serves up four stright wide ones With one out, and two men on Wilson strides purposefully to the plate Wilson swinging from the left side of the plate against the righty Kronside Jace gets the sign from Hays Kronside checks the runners The HIGH CHEESE......... STRIKE THREE SWINGING! One more chance for Negro League II this inning John Beckwith will get a crack at Knowles next Pete Hill would be up next... But only if Beckwith can reach safely Knowles has the sign from Hays Sammy checks the runners Steps off the rubber... Again he's into the stretch... The pitch Base hit to left for Beckwith Willie Randolph will send the runner home... The throw is cut off... And that allows the run to score Pete Hill is up next He'll be hitting with 2 men on board Hill is 2 for 4 today For the season, Pete has 5 homers 14 doubles, and 4 triples He has scored 26 runs while driving in 31 Hill awaits the delivery Knowles kicks and fires Grounded towards the bag Potpie to Knowles covering first Score It: 3-1 And that will do it for Negro League II FOFC wins 9 to 8 Rodney gets credit for the win Knowles notches the save Radcliffe takes the loss The hitting star for FOFC was Jeff Nights He was 3 for 4 with a homerun And that wraps things up So long from Negro League II. |

Manager Update
We were able to scratch out a much needed win against the Twos...unfortunately, in the process we lost Fozborg for a while. I haven't gotten the news back from the doctors, but I'm sure he'll go on the 15 day DL at least. That's going to hurt. Not counting last nights start, he was pitching very well. I probably should have left him in relief where he was doing well. I just felt he had earned a turn in the rotation, and because we haven't been playing well, I thought a shake up might light a fire or two... I need to consider calling someone up to help eat the innings. Especially with the way we've been pitching lately. I wonder if we have anyone down on the farm that could help us for a while until Foz is back in shape.... This would be a good time if anyone reading would like a part time spot on the roster...speak now. I'm going to see if the game will allow me to add a player after the season starts. Hey Skip,
Not to be too Rob Nielsen about it-- but that's twice in a row that I've been player of the game with two dingers and been sat the next day. It's kind of hard to build up a rythm that way. |

ok so you must be Gazelle...seriously...it's been so long I have a hard time remembering Son, you are playing great...and you are a dynamite player against left handed pitchers. Obviously, judging from your last few games. I also love your speed and defense, but against righties you haven't be quite as productive. Plus you tell me who I should sit down in order to play you against a right handed pitcher.... Pflaggsettler kills righties, Gunner is a left handed hitting outfielder who has been clutch against the right handed starters and Tuckers has been a great table setter for us... But you're right... you've played well enough to deserve more at bats. I'll try to think of ways to get you in the lineup more often... OOC - Gazelle is a 5L meaning he is exceptionally good against LHP, so he typically goes in for the LH hitting Gunner in lineups where a lefty pitches. Pflaggsettler is actually better against RHP (exceptionaly better), but because most LHP aren't as good against RH hitters he still does well when a Lefty pitches (but you'll notice I occasionally sit him in these situations to give Ton or someone else some at bats). Thanks for checking in... |

Just before the game...I find Gazelle, pat him on the back and say..."it's a lefty tonight. I've not only got you in the lineup, but in the prime spot. Do your thing boy, do your thing..."
