Idle thought, and one that may have been presented in this thread already:
Instead of keeping directories in the form: FOF7/export/LEAGUEID FOF7/import/LEAGUEID FOF7/leaguedata/LEAGUEID FOF7/leagues/LEAGUEID I think it might be easier to traverse if the structure was: FOF7/LEAGUEID/export FOF7/LEAGUEID/import etc.

I'm finding the solo game much harder this time around.. which is great. Mediocre players wanting decent money to stay as a backup.

Can somebody tell me where to look up the "roster strength" for the whole team rather than just by position ? For some reason this particular table has aluded me ...

Is there a limit to the amount of seasons you can go through?

Not really. I suppose your computer's memory limit could cause issues after a few hundred seasons, but other than that, no. People have reported playing a single career of 200+ seasons without any real problems.

A friend of mine has played 257 seasons, and still going, so...no limit I can think of. If a game like this is engineered properly, it should be able to get into the thousands without issues.

I will apologize up front because I do believe this was noted somewhere but I didn't find it to bump it.
Kickers/Kick off - most NFL kickers today tend to put the ball into the end zone or out of the field of play. From what I have seen not many do so in FOF. Wondering if this may be something that may be recommended to be considered for the next patch (if there is one, Jim already implied not!) or 8? |

Overall, I love the game. I do have a few gripes/wish list items.
My biggest gripe is singing & resigning players. I have yet to have a 1st round pick NOT want top 5 or top 1 type money after their first contract. And that is regardless of their performance/stats. I've had guys that have flat out sucked and they STILL want to be paid like the top 5 at their position because they were a 1st round pick. I understand that there are always guys who have an over-inflated self-worth. But it shouldn't be every single player I draft in the 1st round. Also, the bottom feeder roster guys want too much money to resign. I have late round picks or UDFA's who want a million or more for having sat on the bench all year. Again, I know there are guys who expect more, but after the end of FA, more of these guys should be willing to sign for the minimum. I'd also like to see the signing logic redone where you can offer more salary in the first year of a contract than in the following yr. The logic in the game that says you can't offer less in later yrs isn't accurate by NFL standards. I saw someone else mention the combine coloring be on the player cards as well. I think that's a great idea. |

Reneg with high rated players before the last year of their contract while they still haven't reached their potential. It'll be cheaper when someone is 45/75 than 75/75. I don't think players care where they were drafted so much as how good they believe themselves to be.
I believe the inability to frontload contracts is so that it keeps things fair for all involved. Otherwise we'd all off $20 mil the 1st year and min sal for the next 4 years. It's a balancing act to have a decent game and somewhere I'm assuming Jim has decided he needs to break from reality for playability. I agree that bench players generally ask for too much in FA1, but every player wants to start so if you aren't willing to offer them good money to stay they're going to play for a team that is willing to pay and play them. Now, I just personified the game a bit, but in the end it's a balancing act to invoke roster turnover and force you to make tougher choices. |

I find this version to be way harder than any of the previous ones that I've played. I still don't like that you can't front load contracts or roll over cap space. Even just have the ability to offer roster bonuses or something. I find myself on the build up stage not spending 10-12 million a season, and then I'll end up hitting the year where I'm 27m over to start.

There are lots of ways to play the game if you want an easier challenge. The good thing is that the game can still offer tougher challenges if you want them.

I have no hand on FOF (2K7) for a while.
I have read so much good about FOF 7 that I will buy as soon as I know how I to pay. I use no credit card! Too bad you can't pay via PayPal - This is todays standard! It sucks - sorry. Two things, however, I like to know: 1. Is it still the case, that one should select a QB with the lowest possible intelligence because this lowers interception? 2. Is there is still the QB/WR issue alive (some call this a bug)? Both were always weird issues I never liked. |

Remove the god damn Influenza injury from the game. Just won my Wild Card game in the HFL and now 17 of my players are questionable with Influenza. For a game that goes out of its way to be realistic, this is beyond stupid.

Not directly FOF7 related but....... I am curious what Jim would have to do to update TCY to allow TCY generated rosters to easily port over into FOF7, or later versions. Not asking for a total rewrite of the game, I realize that is way too much. Just the ability to run it in parallel to a league to track the key collegiate players as their careers progress and the declare for the draft.
Just dreaming out loud. |

Not close. I need to spread the word somehow. It's not like it was 16 years ago, when I was able to make an appointment with an editor at CGW and walk right in the door. And, oh, by the way, this looks interesting, here's a contact at Gamespot. They'll review it, too. I think the days when one person can do a game solo are pretty much over. |

Got the game yesterday and as such I'm still very much in the feeling out phase. I only do roster moves, while letting the AI coach do the game plan. But it worked surprisingly well. Started a game in the 2000 season with the New England Patriots, expected a rebuilding season, but the team surprised everybody by getting the top seed in the AFC with a 14-2 record, aided by a weak schedule (opponents finished 108-148). The team finished second in scoring, 1 point behind the Packers, with 27.4, while defensively the team just trashed opponents, holding them to an average of only 10.9 points. Offensively Drew Bledsoe played fairly well, despite losing top receiver Terry Glen due to an ACL injury, throwing for 4081 yards, 29 TDs and 12 INTs.
The season turned legendary, however, in the playoffs. In the Divisionals the team was matched up against Peyton Manning's Colts. After an even first half the Colts seized momentum in the third quarter, outscoring the Pats 17-7 to take a 23-17 lead into the fourth. In the fourth Vinatieri first hit a FG, before Drew Bledsoe scrambled for a 38-yard TD on 3rd and 8 with 3:17 left on the clock. Then Manning took over. On 3rd and 7 at the Colts' 27 he threw to Jerome Pathon for 21 yards. Four plays later the Colts faced 4th and 3 at the New England 45. Manning completed a 2-yard throw to Randolph Page who managed to get the extra yard for the first down. With 42 seconds left the Colts stood at New England 31 and Manning completed a pass for 13 yards. After two incompletions Manning threw to Marvin Harrison for 7 yards who managed to draw an intentional facemask setting up a 1st and Goal from the New England 6 with 8 seconds on the clock. Manning completed a pass to his fullback who was stopped 1 yard short of the game winning TD. The madness continued in the AFC Championship Game against the 13-3 Chiefs. New England took a 10-0 lead into the fourth quarter, before the Chiefs made it a game with an early TD. With 2:49 left the score was 13-7 Patriots and the Chiefs stood at the New England 19 facing a 4th and 3. Warren Moon completed a 19-yard TD to Tony Gonzalez who fought to get the last 14 yards after the catch. Drew Bledsoe then took the ball and completed 3 of 4 passes with the last one being a screen pass to Kevin Faulk who went 30-yards with the ball for the game winning TD sending the Patriots to the Super Bowl against the 15-1 Packers. There the madness was driven to the top. After four quarters the score was 16-16. Vinatieri scored a 24-yard FG to tie the game with 2:55 in the fourth. However, before that the Patriots had a 2nd and 1 at the Packers' 6 and failed to punch it in. This goal line failure would set the tone for the doom that would befall in OT. In OT the Packers won the toss and scored on a FG. Drew Bledsoe and Robert Edwards led New England on a 78-yard drive, setting up a 1st and Goal at the Packers 2-yard line. Edwards was stopped at the line of scrimmage on first down. On second down Bledsoe was hurried and his throw fell incomplete. On third down Edwards only managed to gain 1 yard, forcing the Patriots to go for the game-tying FG. Now the Green Bay offense came alive. Favre passed for 30 yards while their backs ran for 47 against the tired Patriots' D and won the game with 14:12 in the second overtime on a 20 yard FG. Despite the lack of a happy end the run was awesome. Although it does complicate my original plan of trading Bledsoe for picks to make room for some random 6th round QB. Hard to do that to a guy who won two playoff games with late game heroics. Last edited by OP_SU : 04-24-2014 at 06:43 AM. |

Don't understand how a team that won the Bowl the previous season and sits at 10-0 can not sell out the seats in their games. Especially with the importance of the financials now.

I just tried this and unfortunately, it doesn't work for me. Which is why I was griping about this part of the game. Here's an example: I have a LT who's just starting yr 3 of his career. I drafted him at 1.10 and his current rating is 54/71. I went to offer him a new contract and he wants $7M this yr and $9.5M next yr in base salaries. The top 5 avg for OT's this yr is $9.2M. So basically next yr he wants to be paid like a top 5 OT even though he isn't rated like one and doesn't perform anywhere near like a top 5 OT. |

Hi!
Where are the save-game file(s) located? I'm transferring FoF7 to another computer & like to keep the current season that I'm simming. In previous FoF versions, there used to be a universe folder / file. Don't see that any where FoF7 is installed. |

Hey all, this is going to sound like a stupid question but I don't see the folder anywhere.
Where do I place the team logo images? I don't see an image folder or anything. EDIT: Never mind, I found the folder.

I can't seem to find a section where I can change my gameplan according to field position. We always played more aggressively inside my opponents half, up to the Red Zone. Pretty much standard practise to open up more when you get into your opponents half in the NFL.
Has the ability to do this been taken away? If so it seems a real step backwards. |

Okay, maybe I am just blind, but I've thought about buying FOF7, but I can't seem to find where to download helmets etc. I saw a link but when I got to that thread i didn't see anything.
Also was the update ever pushed out with the new graphics? Is there fake helmets, logos out there if I wanted to do a complete fictional league as well? I haven't played FOF in a while. Is there a "newb" thread to re-familiarize myself with all the ins and outs? Thanks! Brandon |

Hi Brandon, yes, the current version (7.0b) has the new graphics. It won't look very much like the demo, if you saw that in December.
Image sets with NFL logos and helmets would have to be independently released. I'd check some of the logo sets in the 2007 reference thread: FOF2K7 Reference Thread - Front Office Football Central There are fictional leagues with helmet/logo sets for their teams, but I'm not sure where you'd go to find those. Here are two from the OSFL: I think the template comes from a well-known site for football helmets, but I'm not sure what that is. |

Finally started a game with the Jags in 2020, and I had a few questions. Didn't want to create a new thread for them so thought I'd be best sticking them in here. After simming 6 years, there have been 6 different SB winners, and only Jacksonville and Kansas City haven't made the playoffs at least once. Nice parity in the sim engine, good to see
Jacksonville look to be pretty cash strapped! Their average attendance last year was about 40k, and their ticket prices are the lowest across the league. How do I improve attendance, is it as simple as winning more games? As the people of Jacksonville are clearly failing to embrace the wonderfully mediocre football that is on offer in their fine locale, how easy is it to move them to LA? Is there a rule of thumb for how big a stadium I should try and build, and how much money will I need to contribute to making it happen? Despite having less than 40 players on their roster, the Jags are ($8.2m) in terms of cap. Guessing that the brackets mean I'm over the cap right now? Have to be creative resigning, restructuring and cutting! I may be able to trade one of my WRs, he's about 50 OVR and I'll save $4mil. Is there any guidance about market value for trades? What can I expect for a mid 50's player? Ideally I need to stock draft pics so I can bulk my roster with cheap rookies. Would a 4th be a reasonable price? 3rd and a 6th? Or is it just a case of experience as to what you think you can get for someone? Finally, is it possible that because Jacksonville are performing so badly on the financial side, that my owner wont let me spend up to the league salary cap? I've not counted up my cap hit for next season manually, but it doesn't seem like it would add up to over $8mil more than the league cap level, especially since I have so few players on the books. Is it possible I have a much lower team imposed cap because there's so little money in the bank? Thanks guys! |

You won't have issues with an artificial lower cap. The penalties of poor finances will probably affect your ability to sign top coaches, though I'm not sure if that's still how it works in FOF7.
In trades...I only play MP, so that's a whole different line of thinking. You can probably expect the AI to screw you over. And it'll depend huge on the contract. If it's too much and he's not signed long term, you might well find him not tradeable. Stadium revenue probably gets increased through a good stadium, and winning. Jim actually has written a lot of articles in the 'Help' file. There's one entry called "Articles" that points to a number of them, and I recall he went into the stadiums bit in one of those. Being over the cap at the start of the season can get you penalized with drat picks, though. And you can see how much cap you've got tied up next year on your roster screen. |

I have a season going right now where 80% of the teams are in cap hell.
I have about 60mill of cap space and won the SB. 80% of the other teams are negative 10 mill to the Raiders at -35 mill. The year 2065. |

I just had A.J. Green retire after his 6th season 4 years into my SP franchise. Wanted to lament his departure, didn't feel it was worth a new thread to do so.
Not sure I have ever seen a top rated and top performing player retire that early without injuries causing it.

didn't want to make a new thread on this, but why is it that I need to use a calculator to work out peoples ages? Does it say anywhere in their profiles, I cannot find where it might be located? That's my biggest complaint about the game so far so it tells you something. (well that and the GUI, no CFL, and lack of expansion but those I can live with)
