Nothing like having invincibility and lighting up everybody in the water with that gun. Gibbing is an understatement. |

Tribes 2, no. Doom, no. Wolfenstein, no. Ouch. Didn't realize these were that tough.
Quake, Half Life, and Marathon are correct. I guess it was kindof a misnomer since Marathon was not a PC FPS (it was a Mac FPS) but close enough. Definitely one of the more underrated games of all time. SI

What's with the gun in the Half Life one? I totally didn't recognize it. What gave it away for me were the lambda signs in the background, and the Health/Armor readout in the bottom left corner.

I have no idea. I never played much of Half Life (one of my bigger gaming crimes), but it was in the Gamespot screenies for Half Life. Bronze 3 is still on the board but another set will be posted shortly so you'll have to decide what you want to go after today. SI

SNES Sports
Today's Theme: SNES Sports
Genesis and SNES had some of the best sports games ever and here's a small sampling from the latter. The three bronzes are particularly great versions for their sports. I owned and put a ton of hours into all three and I know I'm not the only one. Be careful with version names, numbers, and years- this is one where it'll be a little stricter than in the past because some sports games do change from year to year but the names are similar so get the complete game name this time out (ie Madden != Madden 94 and you would get no points). It's almost 2am, time for sleep. Status: Complete Game Rank: GSB and Freebies Bronze 1. Bronze 2. Bronze 3. Silver 1. Silver 2. Gold. Correct Answers B1. NBA Jam: Tournament Edition (Ragone) B2. Tecmo Super Bowl (Katon) B3. NHLPA Hockey 93 (Airhog) S1. Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball (MattJones4Heisman) S2. Super Off Road (TazFTW) G. Dola -- I believe B2 (possibly the best game ever) is actually a NES game.

Nice job.
The site I took the Tecmo shot off of talked about multiple version of Tecmo Bowl and had them by system so I thought it was safe. One of my favorite memories of that one is that I played a season on there with 5 different teams simultaneously- good times. Also, a friend and I had an entire NBA Jam: TE tourney where we drafted all of the teams and then played it out. Bronze 3 from the FPSs is still on the board for anyone who still has a guess left for today. Standings and games will be updated when that one is off the board. SI

Dreamcast Classics
Today's Theme: Dreamcast Classics
Last one for a while since I've got this whole wedding thing coming up. The game will resume on August 3rd. But for today, we'll go for one of the most underappreciated systems out there, the Sega Dreamcast. Lots of good games, but just never got any killer aps unless you consider Bronze 1. Here's some of their better games, tho there are no RPGs since there are enough to have a category unto themself. Remember, there's still the one bronze from the FPS set, too, if you don't know your Dreamcast. Status: Complete Game Rank: GSB Only Bronze 1. Bronze 2. Bronze 3. Silver 1. Silver 2. Gold. Correct Answers B1. Soul Calibur (Coffee Warlord) B2. Sonic Adventure (terpkristin) B3. Samba de Amigo (NevStar) S1. Starlancer (TazFTW) S2. Confidential Mission (Raven Hawk) G. Typing of the Dead (j51) SI

Both are right. Samba de Amigo is like DDR with maracas, if you can picture that. Sonic Adventure, of course, was the first installment in the Sega flagship series for the Dreamcast.

Guess the Dreamcast was tougher than I thought. FYI: guesses have reset for NevStar and terpkristin. 4 Dreamcast and 1 PC FPS still on the board. That PC one should be a gimme.

All of the guesses were correct. Typing of the Dead- I can't believe someone got that so quick, nice job j51. Yes, the Dreamcast had a typing program and it's actually pretty fun- it's like Resident Evil meets Typing Tutor- picked it up for something like $3 in a Toys R Us clearance bin. While the DC had a keyboard, it also had a light gun that was rarely used, but an exception was Confidential Mission. Never played it or Starlancer but the screens were right off of IGN so I figured they were right. Soul Calibur is still fun to this day, tho I play SC2 much more (defense exhibit A of "if you actually make a good game, it will sell on the Gamecube" as it's about the only game that sold better on the Gamecube than PS2 or XBox yet they're still releasing SC3 for the PS2 ). And, yeah, the last FPS was Doom 2, the final boss no less. I could never get to him without the god code. But it's a really fun level if you turn on the god mode- basically it keeps spitting out monsters and you can go crazy nuts on them if you're invincible.

Ok, game's on vacation now until I get back (projection: August 3rd).
Game list has been updated- we've covered a ton of systems and there's a lot more to come as well as more from systems we've already done. But there's new stuff coming, too. I'd like to get in some handheld systems (Gameboy, Gamegear), some other classic systems (Sega Master System, Commodore), and there's a week coming up fairly soon that I have slated for this generation's systems (Gamecube, PS2, Xbox). As for the standings, MJ4H and Taz are lapping the field in points, tied at 32. However, MJ4H has the edge based on games played. There's a second tier at half those points with tk, TP, and CW and then below that SirFozzie has 10, edging out Vince at 9 (8 games) and a lot of others at 9. Still, it's early and there is lots of time to make up ground and points on people when we restart. SI

Ok, I'm back more or less but this whole post-wedding stuff is taking longer than I thought so the game probably won't be back until next Monday.

Sorry, this whole post-wedding stuff is taking a lot more time than I thought and compound that with being sick for two weeks and I just haven't had time for much. Provided there are no more earthquakes, fire, flood, pestillence, famine, or angel of death in my apartment, I'm hoping to get this back up and running next Wednesday (the 24th, I think)

SNES Classics (2nd Edition)
Today's Theme: SNES Classics (2nd Edition)
And we're back so let's see if anyone still notices this thread. Got a hodge podge of SNES games for everyone and I must confess I've only played one of these. Not sure how many are really classics (bronze 1 for sure) but all have their own little niche markets or cult popularities. Probably a little tougher than the usual ones due to the obscurity of the games but maybe not. Also, there are some crazy named ones this time so be sure to be specific in your answers. Anyone who isn't in and wants to join up, post a message about it because there aren't many freebies slated for the near future so I may have to reshuffle some future sets. Remember, if you haven't done a freebie yet, you can't guess on the GSBs. Status: Complete Game Rank: GSB Only Bronze 1. Bronze 2. Bronze 3. Silver 1. Silver 2. Gold. Correct Answers B1.
