The first day of the reign of King Schmidty passes without incident. Rather than issue an edict damning a Metou peasant to death Schmidty decides to retire early to his quarters.

Meanwhile in Metou the celebration of King Schmidty is more subdued than expected. Not a single riot is reported.

Pass on the other hand is heard begging to be thrown in jail. “Please, please, I beg of you. I will starve.”

On the insistence of Pass he is taken away to Woebegone prison and booked on charges of being a follower of The Dark One. How will King Schmidty react to Pass?

Day 1 has ended. Night actions are due by 10am est. I work tomorrow so there is a chance the actions may get ran late. Please don't lynch vote me if this happens.

Wow, it sure is a lot more boring if we don't have an actual lynch to talk about. This is the downside ot the jail plan - we're going to have about three day 1s in a row here, I fear.

Well I've told myself that I'm not going to smoke a cigarette while this game is running. Hopefully by the time it is over I won't have the cravings. I can't help but think I could have made this easier on myself if I didn't quit spur of the moment cold turkey.

Hmm. Could there be a role that is benefited by being in jail? Could Pass be Brer (can't remember where that apostrophe goes) Rabbit?

Nobody wants to call attention to themselves by theorizing before night moves I think. Especially when the bad guys are looking for clues for who to hit.

Finally checking back in after a really miserable day of work.

No real big issue with what's happened today, and I still like the concept of using the jail to get a chance at more information before sending people along to the beyond.

BTW, correct me if I am wrong, but do we not have two BGs essentially? I realize the White Knight is no great guard, but he does have some protective abilities, and I believe he and Lord Righteous have PM abilities.

That might give us more room to maneuver with respect to trying to set up our BGs for success, although, obviously, it's not going to be 100% all the time.

Since Schmidty and the prison seem to be the likely BG choices of the night, my guess is the Dark One will send a minion after someone unexpected.

As morning comes you rush out to get your morning newspaper. Your heart sinks as you read the headline:

Quote:
Murder in Metou

You read on,

Quote:
Hoopsguy was found dead in his market district home yesterday. The door had been kicked in and Hoopsguy was brutally slain. He was found with a look of obvious pain on his face as it appears he was tortured with high level, evil magic prior to his death. The cause of death was determined to be due to a sword wound to the chest. The Dark One or one of his followers is believed to be responsible for this murder. If you have any information which can help solve this case please contact your local law enforcement officer.

Flipping the page you find the following stories on page 2 and 3. Both appear to be written by Diffama Fabula.

Quote:
Hi, I'm Diffama. My browser ate my last story that was nice and long and chatty, so you're just going to get the barebones version.

As you know, there will be one story by me, the "good" Diffama and one by the Dark Lord (at least he's not Sauron)!

I know that even if I revealed you'd have to reason to trust that I was the good person revealing versus being the Dark Lord (short of lynching me), and all that would accomplish is ensuring that you ignored the Dark Lord's stories (and ruin this part of the game). Well that and/or get me killed by the bad guys.

I've thought about figuring out a way to reveal to a couple people in the game, but it'd be meta-gamey and no doubt cause some anger because of that - although it would at least establish a small circle of semi-trust if I did that and lived.

I have no special insider-information to share - and I'm not sure how I'd get my hands on any.
Be nice if there was a gossip-columnist working under me who could feed me some sorts of juicy tidbits to share with you.

Right now I've got nothing, and these are my musings.

I'm perfectly happy with throwing folks in jail versus lynching at the moment - as several folks have mentioned I think it stretches the game out in our favor.

See you all tomorrow!
And….

Quote:
Hah.

Finally you get to the back page expecting a correspondence from prison and instead find the following tidbit:

Quote:
Hoopsguy was a vanilla villager.

Digging back through the paper you finally find it on page three. A letter written by Passacaglia:

Quote:
Things are pretty quiet here at Woebegone Prison, where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the criminals are more deadly than average. Everyone here is delighted to learn of King Schmidty's coronation, happy to see such a benevolent leader on the throne. It's a nice community here. You've got Peregrine's Pretty Good Grocery -- "If you can't find it at Peregrine's, you can probably get along (pretty good) without it." There's also Bunsen Motors, the Ford dealership owned by those brothers, Bek and Blade. Down the road from there is PurdueBrad's Auto Repair, including PurdueBrad's School of Thought, Warm Car Service, Dry Good Emporium, and Fountain Lounge. You've also got The Sidetrack Tap, run by GoldenEagle and LoneStarGirl -- "The dim little place in the dark where the pinball machine never tilts, the clock is a half-hour slow, and where love never dies."
--Passacaglia

Well, that's too bad. Hoops makes a good villager but I suppose we never would have trusted him anyway.

Clearly we can see who the real Diffama is but I'm not sure how this will help us out.

I had forgotten we had two "bodyguards". Do they get to protect two people a night then? That should work out in our favor. I wonder if the descriptoin of the evil magic in the death suggests that it was an attack by the Dark One himself? That might be reading too much in but maybe we'll be able to piece something together from it.

I'm not sure where to go with a vote today. As mentioned, the jail mechanic leaves us in the dark a bit with vote histories, but I still support using it. I'm likely to target the quiet players as I think this rule set supports that more than normal. If it gets them to talk, great. If not they can sit in jail and write stories until they're cleared or caught.

That's an interesting kill choice. Hoops is usually on a lot of suspect lists. To me, this indicates that someone like Lathum or Chief Rum may not be a wolf as killing a top notch wolf like Hoops makes it more likely they would be scanned or possibly lynched.

triple dola, never mind on the bodyguards, you guys were quiet long enough that I actually went back and checked hte rules. They do have to alternate, so just one super guard and one not so great guard.

i agree...hoops usually generates a lot of heat on his own...killing him first is an odd play, as it eliminates a person that would be a built in distraction.

i also agree that while the jail may be our advantage later in the game, we are essentially right back on day one today...we know very little new info from the day before.

Yay for access! Boo for hoops getting killed. I know it's been awhile since I played but that's an interesting day 1 kill since he used to get more heat as the game went on and was quite often a night 1 scan/protect candidate as I recall.

If there is a way for the BG's to coordinate without tipping themselves off that would be a benefit I'd think.

So should we assume if nothing comes out about Pass that he has been scanned good?

And does anyone have anything to report? I didn't get any PM.

I think we need to wait for Schmidty until we make any assesments.

Also, do we want to keep Schmidty in power another day? I don't see any reason not to.
