Lurking, apathetically, mind you... just didn't have the oompf to sign up previously. To apathetic I guess. Just because I re-upped in 2004(as AP) didn't mean I wasn't hanging out here for loooooong time before . My HD crashed , then I moved to a different provider when mine went out of business so I let my phatguy account just go by the wayside(2001?) been lurking since Jims first game went on the market. I remember someone telling me about it and I got it, then that same week found the old boards.I think it was about 2 months after Jim first released FOF1. hoped that cleared up the "confused" thingie |

The reason this game is getting bashed so hard is because its last release date was a year or so ago (I forget the exact timeline, but I'm sure someone will correct me), and it was all "finished" and ready to go, but it was held up because Matrix wanted a career mode. Now that everybody is finding out how little substance there is to "career mode", they're trying to figure out what the holdup was. Seriously, I've added on this form of "career mode" to someone else's sim in about 2 or 3 months programming on the side during college (attending full time) back when I had very little programming experience. So if the game was "finished" over a year ago, what exactly has been going on for the last year? And if he's really spent a year adding so little, how good could the rest of the game really be? That's why everyone is having so much fun with the listed feature set for "career mode".

I gotta agree that 1 whole year for what is called "career mode" by dave is way over the top. I have little programming experience my self but if forced to do it might be able to knock off something in 3-5 months. My problem is that certain individuals here think that any football game MUST have all the features of the NFL even in a game that is a generalized version of fooball. Dave screwed up somewhere along the line and now him and Matrix are running around blowing smoke up everyones asses, but,as it plainly states over there , Maxfb is not an "NFL" game. If it was I would be the first to slam dave and co for the missing stuff I want and need in a specialized game like fof or tpf. But I am willing to see what the finished product(whenever it comes out)can or cannot do before slamming it mercilessly. |

Another outstanding post by the MF developer over at the forums, in response to someone who said "Yeah, some people want this game to fail. That's too bad, because there is room for more games."

I don't want anyone to fail, especially someone who has the desire to program anything, but I do wonder how much fun the forums will be when the game is released.
I can't find much at all about a game that is about to be released, a few screenshots and a features list? Maybe some posts?? Should definitly be a fun release. Who knows, maybe the game will surprise some of us? Last edited by MizzouRah : 02-13-2006 at 10:24 PM. |

As another human being, I hope he succeeds. But he is a cocky guy(and not even funny) with a limited dream and no understanding of the details required to bring the best realization of that dream to life. Its kinda sad really, but people on this thread just enjoy watching because he moons people out the window of his car while its stuck on cinder blocks in his front yard.

I think druez is right about him having a burr up his butt about canadian Football. Who in the WORLD would list that *before* our version in a feature list, as if that's going to draw more people???

Interesting that he says in a post in that thread that he came very close to cancelling the whole project "several times" in the past few weeks.

It's really sort of astounding how much this guy doesn't get it.
That said, I'm almost embarrassed to admit I have a perverse interest in seeing what this game is like. Last edited by digamma : 02-13-2006 at 11:23 PM. |

I must buy this game. It is going to be worth the 29.99 or whatever to give me unlimited ammo to rip the game a new one. Once, I'm a paying customer I've earned the right to complain and complain and complain.

Good luck getting any patches. After all, he was "within an inch" of cancelling the project several times over the last few weeks.

I may be new to this debate, but what kind of scumbag developer rips people who criticize his game based on the information he's made available by saying "You are not qualified to pass judgement on my game yet - wait until it comes out, pay me money, and then you can complain."??? WTF? Someone should bite him on the face.

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm...3&mpage=2&key= [quote]You obviously have a disdain for other football games and for the people who enjoy them. This is complete nonsense or better simply a lie. When you look at some other forums like the infamous FOF boards you will see bashing about the game and even the developer is part of the campaigning against MF. BTW KWhit is a hardcore FOF-fan. He has 4.367 posts on the FOF boards

This is the first I've heard about this game - went to the sites to check it out - but I dont think it will live up to the hype - so I'll just stick with my FOF and UF sims

I think as long as the game doesn't have any major bugs that halts league play like Total Pro Football did and the Ratings work then people can come up with good rosters. Quote:

Looking at the board over there, I found it a little comical about the discussion about the lack of trading in the game. Basically, the case was made that it's not important since there is very little trading in the NFL. Ummm....wasn't the case made previously that this wasn't designed to be an NFL sim and that's why so many other things were left out?

(replying essentially to the person from the MF forum who posted that out of context there) No. I'm not campaigning against MF. I've mentioned that I have a lot of respect for someone building a graphics engine on his own. I've shown him a lot more respect than he's shown for any of the text-sim developers. All indie developers expand on the genre in their own ways. I poked a little fun in response to his comments that he exceeded FOF back in 1990, which is ludicrous - FOF would greatly exceed the memory capacity of any PC built at that time. I studied graphics design in school. I often draw on my own, some of it makes it into my games. I am not a good drawer or modeller. The MF screen shots show things I'm never going to be able to do on my own. I know what it takes to do what he's doing and I certainly respect that. I hope people support his game. He has his genre, and it's very different from the one I'm looking to fill. He also has no idea what it's like to really take some heat from customers. Changing his phone number because someone called him and asked about the release date? Posting that he considered cancelling the product several times in recent weeks? That makes me worry. But I'm rooting for him. We need more indie developers, especially now when the popularity of consoles has just about eliminated any chance we have of putting our games on store shelves. |

We're rooting for him, we hope he succeeds. But with his ongoing circus and veiled potshots at other sims/other gamers in the sim (free hint, the sports-sim market is small enough already, no need to reduce it further by insulting a good portion of the market).. there's a growing hope that he flames out spectacularly, to become a cautionary tale told to developers who, in Texas terms.. are all hat and no cattle.

Hell, I'd love for MF to be the best game I've ever played. If it turned out to be a GM/coach simulation with a solid game engine and a graphical display of the game, I'd be ecstatic.
But the numerous posts that David has made belittling other games and the potshots he's taken at the games' developers is childish. It seems that he has a persecution complex. |
