I just failed to drive in a runner on second, getting -10 training points. Maybe it really was my fault he got picked off.

Was told I was "benched indefinitely" in the playoffs thanks to the auto-runner, luckily no punishment this time. However the Durham Bulls were swept in my second season despite my .533 average, 4 doubles, 2 homers, and 8 RBIs in the series.

Yeah, at least you made the playoffs. I went like 8 seasons in the majors last year with one playoff appearance that ended up being a 3 game sweep. We were always a team that would win like 85-90 games and just miss the playoffs. I was actually extremely excited when we made the playoffs.
At one point in my career I vowed to move to a contender the minute I could. But I looked at the roster we had (Brewers) and it was just stacked with good young talent. So I signed a big extension like an idiot. |

Wish I understood what the heck they want with "Covering the base." I got a strikeout, a fly to right, and a pop-up behind home plate and got dinged for failure to cover.

I haven't picked up a version since 07. Without consideration to cost, should I buy 09 or 10?

I'd say save yourself some money and pick up 09. I don't own 10 but from everything I've heard with the problems it just isn't that different from 09.

Stick with 09, it's much more polished. I really haven't done much with 10 with all the issues it has. Have played a few games in the classic stadiums and that's it. I have a pretty awesome 09 RTTS career though that I'll probably just stick with this year.

I agree - I already sold mine and just picked up a used copy of MLB 09 for $15 on Craigslist.

So, no Spring Training invite despite being the #2/5 third basemen for the Rays and the #1 of 44 of AAA third basemen. My stats the previous year were: .288, 14 homers, 61 RBIs (missed 60 days w/ a broken hand).
So my bitterness took over, 2 games into my third season: Game 1: 1-4, 3 run homer (game-winner) Game 2: 5-6, solo homer, grand slam (451 feet), RBI single, 2 doubles (got thrown out at third in the 9'th trying to stretch for the cycle) After 2 games: .600, 3 homers, 9 RBIs May push for the trade soon. |

So, I've been benched now twice this season for stealing like I have a green light despite the following facts:
A- I don't do the running, PS3 does B- I have 0 caught stealings C- The last game, the one that got me suspended indefinitely, I went 2-4 with 2 homers. Maybe the manager literally means I'm stealing, like I took his wallet, a television, his wife, who knows? Anyway, my second benching (which was "indefinite" and so far that means I've gone from the #1 third basemen in Triple A to a bench player) has lasted 8 games already but it did get me the hell out of the Rays' system. I'm now a Diamondback, #1 third basemen in their system... ...and still the "indefinitely" benched Triple A back-up. GUH! Last edited by PurdueBrad : 03-17-2010 at 08:00 AM. |

Seller's remorse? The White Sox trade me to the Reds on 7/26, and then a little more than a week later re-acquire me straight up for Paul Konerko.
I know the trading logic pre-patch here is a little funky, but the White Sox and Reds being involved in consecutive deals for me that close together is funny. |

And, I got traded again. Got benched again too so now I'm handling the running whenever I'm the lead runner.
Anyway, hitting .350 with 250 at bats through the end of June. 12 homers, 53 RBIs, and second in All-Star voting (despite being benched three separate stretches). But, it looks like no Triple A All-Star Game for me... ...'cause I finally got the call! I'm now on the White Sox big league club. We'll see how that goes. |

Okay, the fuck?
I struck out the first batter, got the second to fly out to left, and the third to foul out. I got dinged for "not covering base." Meanwhile, a few games ago, the camera angle was funky enough I couldn't tell if it was a line drive or the start of a 3-6-1 (it was the latter) so I was only about halfway to first base by the time they threw the ball to me, and I didn't get penalized for not covering. What's going on here? |

I'm playing RTTS in MLB '09 as a second baseman and am seeing something strange. Has anyone else experienced this?
Runner on 1st. We're ready to turn a double play. Ground ball to either 3B or SS so I run to cover the bag. I don't get there in time and the game actually stops me far away from the base and I cannot get to the base to apply a tag and have to throw on to first for the only out I can get. I mean it seems that only 1 in 10 chances do I get to the base in time to turn two. Has anyone else seen this in either '09 or '10?

Sami,
That was a known issue with 09 that they never got around to fixing. Whoever it was here that said "09 is more polished than 10" was talking out of their ass. Of course a game that has been patched three times is more polished than a game that has been patched once. TroyF, Lemme know how it goes . I'll be playing my RTTS most of today too, praying I get traded to...well...anybody. God I can't stand being on the Pirates. I picked up the first Uncharted game too, and i'm already impressed just 45 minutes into it.

I don't think I was the one that said it but I do believe '09 was more polished out of the box than '10. Ultimately, I would hope that '10 surpasses it but we'll see. As for Uncharted, you're gonna love it. It's not my style of game and I was hooked, loved #2 even more. |

Transactions, after simming through a few months of "normal" franchise mode (not controlling all 30 teams), seem much better.
Trades seem realistic Players are being released and signed Players are being put on waivers Although it still appears the AI does NOT call up players based on performance, with each trade, injury, and waiver processed it seems the team juggle things enough so that if there is an obvious choice to bring up, hopefully that player gets the call. Proof? Jason Heyward started in AAA (well, at least spring training) and is now on the MLB roster with ATL with 165 AB's already through June 1st. *****Through 2 months of simming, I have not seen the AI CLAIM a player off waivers yet. Has anyone seen this? I sure hope so!***** |

Edit: somehow my post got chopped in half - these trades are from RTTS.
Trades are still just loony. I don't know any other way to say it. Here is a sampling: 1) Brandon Webb and a prospect to the Cardinals for King Albert and a prospect 2) Barry Zito and a prospect for David Ortiz 3) Prince Fielder to Indians for a prospect 4) I was traded to Boston for John Lackey and a prospect (started with the Twins) 5) Boston traded me 2 months later to Milwaukee for Randy Wolf 6) David Price traded to the Pirates for a 3B prospect (they still have Longoria) Like I first feared, I'm not at all convinced they'll get this aspect fixed. I'll still play RTTS because I enjoy it, but I can't see having the same immersion with these types of ridiculous moves going on. I d/l newest roster and tested out one recommended on the OS forums. Both had the types of moves I wrote about above. Last edited by TroyF : 03-18-2010 at 12:14 PM. |

I can 100% confirm that the "not covering base" issue has been around since at least 09, if not earlier. It was a very annoying glitch that happened when you were the SS or 2B. It would happen not only for the occasional double play, but probably 50% of the time when covering 2B during a steal attempt. I haven't played 2B or SS yet in MLB 10, only because I'm waiting for the "Full OS Rosters" to come out around opening day before I start my batter RTTS career. Therefore, I can't confirm on whether the "not covering base" bug is in MLB 10 also.

I think we're talking about two separate things. I'm talking about a bug/glitch where the 2B/SS will actually stop 2-3 feet away from the bag and take a throw from the catcher/continue a double play. What you're talking about is something I've seen too (which has been around for a while also) where the Pitcher will get stuck in a slowdown animation and take a long time to step on first base on a 3-6-1 DP. The difference here is, the Pitcher will at least step on the base, albeit a bit slower than you'd like, whereas the 2B/SS won't even touch the base.

No, I'm talking about the slowdown in a different post. What I'm talking about HERE is randomly having my pitcher get dinged for not covering the bag in situations where no coverage is called for. And not getting dinged in situations where it WOULD be. |

Hmm...that's interesting. I have a pitcher RTTS going too, and I haven't had a single point given/taken away for bag coverage in my career. I'm in May of my 4th season. Is this just during regular gameplay?

Not sure what you mean by regular gameplay. But I've gotten the -5 for failure to cover at least half a dozen times. Almost always when there's no reason to cover. Strikeout, foul out (batter can't take first if the ball drops anyway) and bases-empty fly-out, say. |

Is this on the PS3 version? I've played probably 400 games as a pitcher in 09 & 10 and i've never, ever had this happen to me.

I seem to be stuck on the Pirates. I've complained literally every single day in the interactions area, and I've asked for a trade twice, only to be turned down because I'm too valuable. I've watched 3 other starting pitchers within the organization get dealt for younger, cheaper talent. I'm doing everything I can to avoid playing, essentially refusing to start my games until they agree to trade me. I've done a decent job so far, only starting 4 games through the end of June.
Ugh...such a terrible team. I'm tired of pitching 7 strong innings and losing 1-0, or 2-1.

If you complain about being taken out too early in your last start, the majority of the time they'll put a spot starter in your place for your next start. If you continue to complain, sometimes you'll string 2, 3, even 4 consecutive starts in a row without actually playing. I was able to get on the trading block earlier in the year by doing this, but they wound up trading other starters away instead of me.

First pitch I get in the bigs I jack for a 2 run bomb. Next AB, another HR. What's funny is I had 13 career HR in two years in the minors. The Reds must have had some left over steroids from the Adam Dunn days to give me.
