The intentional tie is smart if you think you can beat that opponent again.

Nitpick, but he didn't barrel his way past a dozen competitors, at least not in 4 games. Also, I missed the intentional tie, or I wasn't paying attention. I am enjoying this decades tournament they are doing. It's nice to see some guys I remember from my youth.

Eh Maybe not. They are doing 90s week next week, and then 2000s week the first week of April. The actual tournament part starts May 5. Prediction: Brad Rutter is going to win the whole thing.

Chu dominates DJ and wins again. I also guessed Garrison, Lincoln was too obvious there. I still don't get why this guy is "controversial" or bad for the game. If the other contestants don't like the way he plays, beat him. And if the viewers don't like it don't watch. He's trying to win not please the viewers.

I'm rooting for her. Wow, that guy is a buzzsaw, though. His breadth of knowledge is amazing. And, yeah, it is annoying skipping around, going bottom to top. I'm afraid others will start copying him because he's figured out the flaw in occasional DJs near the tops of categories - you can both safely bet big and you can save them for later. I'm afraid this is the new norm. |

So we could have potentially had a tie again if the guy who was in 2nd had made a max bid in final jeopardy. I don't mind it. He might as well let someone else get some cash too.

I'm about 75% through his run* - finally - and I have to say, I rather like the guy. Doesn't seem particularly cocky, seems to be easygoing. So what if he plays a bit unorthodox. *shurg*
* Dawn's ep, actually

Chu would get destroyed in this Battle of the Decades tournament. Brad Rutter dominated again today, Ken likely to do the same tomorrow. Should have just given those two a bye to the finals. I like this tournament because all the players are quality. Should be even better once they get down to the final 9. Will be interesting to see how Colby and Roger Craig match up with Ken and Brad, assuming they make it to the final 9.

is it me or did Colby seem a lot more humble this go around? I thought he was always a jerk in previous episodes and tournaments.

The finale was the only time I can ever think I'd ever record an episode (TWO!) of Jeopardy!
I thought the finale was pretty good, all in all, but the guy who won seems hella arrogant... /tk

If you were a college dropout who won 4.5 Million dollars you'd be arrogant too. Plus he's the only person who's beat Jennings so it's not arrogance if you can back it up.

Roger and Ken are definitely more likeable than Brad Rutter. Ken would be a great choice to replace Alex Trebek as host.
I liked the all ins by Roger even though it didn't work out. Guy had 2 chances to win the tournament and couldn't get either. I was surprised Ken and Brad missed the Oscar FJ on the first day. Thought Foster and Hopkins both winning BA was common Oscar trivia. |

Dan Patrick to Host Sports Jeopardy
Maybe just online, but I'd guess that there are a few on this board who could clean up. |

Commenting on these as I finally watched all of the tourney eps (plus some - I am now half through Julia's run).

Heh. My wife couldn't stand him the first time around. I kinda liked his cockiness, though I think he did tone it down a little for this tourney. Quote:
A HOPKINS college dropout. Quote:
I think Roger realized that he had to do that to have a serious shot, especially the second time. Totally justified in betting it all. Trebek even joked about Ken hosting in the future, didn't he? I think he's be great, but Brad almost seems better suited for host duties. I like Ken better, but Brad seems to have the host voice/presentation/Hollywood thing down better.

This borderline autistic guy is great. Just eviscerating the competition, adding in celebrations on every daily double, and bringing the creepiest smiles I've ever seen.

Those of you who are unfamiliar with Alex Jacob...he's a former poker pro who had fantastic results. He was considered one of the top tournament players when he was playing full-time. Has won over $2.5 mil in poker.

Possibly the worst 3 Jeopardy contestants I've seen in awhile, but it did present an interesting wager dilemma.
Entering Final Jeopardy #1 - $800 #2 - $3,000 #3 - $4,200 What do you wager as #player 2?

In my experience, $600 is the right wager for #2 if I did the math in my head right. Player #1 on $800 is irrelevant in this scenario, so I'm ignoring him/her entirely. The player in the lead USUALLY wagers enough to beat the second place player +$1 assuming that the person in second bets the farm and both get the question right. So, as that second place player, I'm making the assumption that #3 is betting $1,801 ($2,399/$6,001). Based on this set of assumptions, I wager so that if I get the question wrong, I fall to $2,400. So, I'm betting $600. In this case, it appears it would have worked for me. All this said, I have no idea what the wagering is like on show in its current era. When I followed the show in the 90's, players in the lead often followed this strategy. No one in the lead wants to risk losing when they get the question correct. |

The person in third was silly to bet everything. You have to know that the first two are going to bet everything. So the only way you win is if they both get it wrong. And if that's the case, then as long as you have >0, you will win.
